What's amazing is if it wasn't for him where would we be as hot rodders. Better yet as a nation. If he didn't do what he did maybe we would never had the industrial revaluation or as a whole not be interested in metal and the ways we use it. So maybe when you have the next beer thro it up and give cheers to him and the only Detroit 3 that didn't take a bail out! He's got my vote!

I forgot to mention that back in those days(Edsel day) the president was picked by ideas not money and corporate buy offs. You know when people actually had a voice:/ ok I'm done!

Well... as my Grandfather always said "No matter who you vote for, the Government always gets in".
Edsel, Obama, or Newt Gingrich's Moon Colony ain't gonna make a catalytic converting smog of a difference. It's the whole bloated system that's gotta go, where by under-productive workers earn 'better than' wages and are proud to declare it.
I know at the end of the day I can say that I fixed or built someone's something or other for the love of it, can you?
Perhaps then, Jive-Bomber... Edsel did too!

So what you are saying is that a 69 year old corpse would make a better president than the current choices?

Died a young man @ 49. Wonder how he would have influenced the direction of Ford Motor Co. had he lived through the 1950's-60's?

What would he have to say about the late Edsel car?

I agree his speedster may have been the first custom Hot Rod;

Obviously I agree that Henry Ford's view on the Jewish people was wrong and his writings on the subject were reprehensible, but this article conveniently misleads the reader by omitting dates and implies a more mutual connection between Ford and Hitler than actually existed. Seems like a sort of irresponsible piece.

The sad part is that when anyone hears the name "Edsel", they automatically think of the failed brand. Edsel Ford was a visionary who had a great eye for design and business. If you look at the designs that came out during his watch, they are timeless.

Edsel Ford was a man who never got the recognition that he truly deserved.

Great thread, and thanks for paying tribute to a forgotten icon!

The fact that the Fords were responsible for the material we work with does not make them the hot-rodder's friend. What we are doing is seriously, dangerously subversive to their agenda. That's why they and their ilk have been manipulating governments to outlaw us, so far as they can pull that off.

Henry was a bit of a nutcase, but he was human enough to be a knot of contradictions. He wanted farmers to be able to fix their Model Ts with stuff like baling wire, but he didn't want his employees to be able to make Model Ts without using his factory. The history of Ford design development between the world wars is a history of systematic technological disempowerment of the broad population, and that fits well with the amply recorded abuses perpetrated by Ford's factory management during that period. There is no reason to believe that Edsel pursued this purpose less vigorously - however more subtly - than his father did.

Edsel Bryant Ford was real "car guy". Most impartial accounts say he was a good person, and all that knew him said he was a good parent. Edsel Ford really knew the technology of automobiles and tried so much to advance the evolution of the American auto..... he was really into the "speedster" style.

BUT to want him to become the President of the United States is a joke.
Edsel was one of the wealthiest men of his time ; yet he was totally dominated , humiliated, manipulated, tormented, and harangued by his dictatorial father.

Edsel Ford could not even run Ford Motor Company without his father's constant interference and underhanded control.

If you had Edsel Ford as President of the USA , what you really you got was his father Henry Ford running the show behind the curtain. The USA lead in the background by Henry Ford ?... Henry the jew-hater, the Hitler sympathiser ... well, the world would have been a very different place today. Concentration camps to make cars, and the glorious 4th Reich promoting VolksFordens ...

Edsel Ford might have made a good politician ... he sure was a great car guy ... but President of the US ?
Only if Henry Ford had dropped dead before poor Edsel did.... and fate did not work that way.

A Revolution is what we need. The problem is that the only way you can be a revelotionary in the USA is if you are 200 years old and dead.
So the best thing is to be in Austin on Dec 3rd and support the only Revelotion you are going to get!

Great post! I'll bet being President of the U.S. would've seemed like almost like a vacation for Edsel after working for his cranky old Dad.
