Hot Rods Mystery 16" Halibrands

So I was doing a search on some 16" x 10" magnesium Halibrand wheels and I came across these wheels which I'd never seen before. I'm looking to buy a pair of wheels and wanted to know if anybody knows of any out there.

Baja truck rims???

 

Never seen them before, they look like Halibrands and they look like magnesium. Are they for sale?

I'm of no help but they are totally awesome!!!!!!

 

I wish they were for sale or else I'd own them haha. They appear to be a 6 pin drive so I'm assuming they were made for sprint cars. The ones on that gorgeous black coupe are similar but those were handmade by the owner. I know that car very well. And yes they're definitely magnesium.

If you are talking about the Model A ROADSTER above, you are mistaken. Read the story at the link. A magazine wouldn't print wrong information, would they?

 

Those are the Bonneville/Land Speed wheel made by Halibrand in the early 1960s at the Culver City location. They were very limited production. Art Arfons Green Monster ran that wheel in an 18" in an early version of the build. I believe Breedlove also ran a set.

 

Well of course they're hard to find that's just typical of any cool stuff I like. What made me really wonder about the ones I pictured was that they're 16x10s which are too wide to be for Bonneville

usually they were two piece wheels so the circle track guys could mix and match pieces to vary the tread width for different track surfaces. used to see a lot them at swap meets but not any more.
