It's amazing to me how much my tastes have changed (for the better I hope) in a short amount of time since I started looking at all of your amazing builds.
I used to admire this: But now this looks better to me: Used to be this: Now it's this: So my questions are these: Is this (on a 48 Pontiac) the right wheel: To do this? And: Understanding that there are different sized baby moons, and some are for Ford, GM, etc... Is there anything special that I need to look for when hunting down the baby moons and beauty rings (optional)? |

You won't be able to put baby moons on that rim.

Looks like those wheels were made for a full wheel cover only. I have some 15" Ford wheels that are the same way.

That's a COMPLETELY a matter of opinion. Don't let anybody steer you wrong, T.E. If you like red wheels and wide whitewalls, then do it. They're traditional as can be. Just don't forget to consider other colors too.

hi Engineer!
lots of questions: does it have the old pont. 5 on 5 wheel set up?? original 16" wheels? if so they use a clip to hold the hub cap on. the dog dish style hub cap that came on these models is ultra cool!! flater than a baby moon with a pont. indian head on it. if you have some the stainless quality was great and they buff out good!! because it was a 5 on 5 set up there are TO MANY different wheels that will bolt on, giveing you the option of 15" wheels with capabilitys of holding a baby moon cap. real baby moons are nice$$$$$$$ but auto parts store trailer hub caps are cheap, and look OK.. I like the red wheels look with wide whites and small caps even if its been done to death I don't however, have fuzzy dice hanging on the mirror

Absolutely. They need to accentuate the color scheme.

Given the state of the car when I got it (no engine, transmission, or front seat) I'd bet they are not original but that's not enough to make an educated guess. I'd love to find some with the Indian head on it! Agreed, no fuzzy dice. |

if they are indeed 16" 5 on 5" they maybe the right wheels for this app. there might be small square holes around the center to "pop" clips in to hold the small caps. how ever, if you don't have the drive line for this old warrior, are you ready for the tires and wheels?? or are you up and running? altho i know of 2 of those old strait eights, I'm sure they are hard to find..any where

Could you please provide a rating scale for wheels?

One thing to consider, make sure you get the left wheels too.

^^^^^My last post was a poor attempt at a joke BTW. That's not my real scale.

The silver wheel with the thin white wall is a steel rim used on a 90's 1500 Chevy truck, they used a cap that attached to the lug nuts. There's nothing on them for a baby moon to grab onto. An earlier model Chevy truck would have the nubs for a moon, but not these one's. Good luck.
