Side shot of my 36. Those discs are ones I got personally from Dean Moon in 1981-82. He told me they were from the Moonbeam. They were wrapped in newspapers from 1964. They still had salt stuck on the insides.

More assembly needed. Gotta check out wheel clearances
after installing new rear and springs. Then I can order the rear wheels Next we have to repair two of the running board brackets, Luckily the metal is rust free and very clean. Except the rears.......very solid but they have many small "bumps". Any one have a solid set? Will add pics along the way. |

I love these trucks. The low cabs are perfect the way they are. Man these bring back memories. I road a many miles in my dads as a kid. He sold it years ago and we kept track of it for years. A feiend had it a few months ago. He offered it to me but I am so deep in my current project it would have been a bad move on my part. Man you guys make me second guess myself. Thanks for the pics and my walk down memory lane.

Skippy - "Bob" Does that mean how much we cut off? It was about one stake
pocket width. If that is what you meant I will measure my bed length |

Mikel, as far as I know, neither of those mascots ate correct. Trucks came with flat radiator caps, I used one from a 34 Chevy car on my truck, although it always seemed to look a bit gaudy i have since filled in the radiator hole and it looks much cleaner. The 34 cap had what looked likea swan or something with its tail swooping down to the cap base and its wings peaked to the sky, ok for a car but not for a truck. Just fill andpeak thegrille shell and save yoiself some cash. Mitch.

Here are a few pictures of mine. I drive it while I am building it. I want your back fenders.... WHat are they off of?
Also I am probably gonna get an old steel cooler, and mount that in the bed for a battery box. If you dont mind, whats your wheel base? and how long is your bed? Last edited by mustang6147; 09-18-2012 at 02:00 PM. |

Mines a 38 Chevy half ton, Close but not quite.
![]() You may want to take a look at some of the Gel batteries out there, such as Optima as an example. You can mount them on their side, upside down, anything and anywhere. Which really opens up your options. I'd almost leave it where it is, get a Gel battery and mount it sideways, so it'll save a bunch of ground clearance. |

Thanks,
My wheel base is 105" and my bed is 64". Under the floor is great, I opted for the bed, because I have watched so many struggle when trying to get or give a jump start to a fellow rodder. If I ever put it under the floor I will put a remote post for ease. Just my thoughts. Like these old trucks |

I can reach the positive post from the engine room. I have a door on the floor in the cab that allows access to the negative post with a disconnect on it.

I put my battery under the seat but I built up a box area and sunk the battery so it was partially exposed underneath to ensure it would stay cool. Hinged the box top so i could lift it up when the seat was folded forward.
Build used 69 Nova front clip and rearend (3.08) the Nova mono leaf springs and gas shocks. Camaro rear sway bar. Very smooth ride and great handling. Kept drum brakes to keep wheels inside fenders on front. Drive train was a 350 4bbl 4 bolt with a performance power glide. Box was shortened to end where the frame did. PU Box was built using sheet metal and 11/2 inch exhaust pipe. Running stock truck to finished rod was 18 months. Haven't come close to that record for a long well. (pre kid daze) ![]() attached a picture of truck |
