I'm terrible at build threads. Just ask anyone trying to follow along on my '34 thread...
But, I acquired this T roadster body from a friend of mine and decided to do something with it while I am on an emotional hiatus from the '34. Pictures tell a thousand words, and I am just about out of them so here ya go. I'll caption the photos to give more insight as necessary. here's the body when it came home: ![]() mocked up on a rolling chassis i have: ![]() and with aprons: ![]() ![]() after some body work and paint and some graphics: ![]() i used some 29 aprons i had instead, cuz they were better, and cut them to fit the way i wanted: ![]() and a running chassis that i got down at Helger's. i should have it running this week. just needs a few things. and the body in the background waiting to be mated: ![]() That's it for now. It's about 3 weeks of work and hunting. More later. |

Keith, Dad's '34 consumes me to the point of obsession. I need to get my chops up before I tackle it head on. I did some work on it today too. But I need to take that on with baby steps.

I have some '26 Chevrolet posts if you're interested- they are just about a dead ringer for the late T's!

Me likely!!!!! Why don't you not paint the word "SILVER" on it and just go ahead and put SUGAR since I will convince you to sell that roadster to me once it's finished for pennies on the dollar (in my best dwight schrute voice).

I mean really, does anybody "fit" in a Model t roadster. My old '26 left my head above the windshield but I loved it so I just hunched over and dealt.
Go for the gold Gow!!! So excited to see this thing come about. |

i have been in other A roadsters and fit fine. yours just isn't built for me, Bill. i guess the upside is that you know i can never steal it...
the only time i have ever been the operator of a motorcycle, it didn't end well. looked sorta like that. just ask Eli. ugh. |

it's not quite as pristine as it looks. there's no real rust to speak of, but there is some pitting. i did some body work to smooth it out a little. i didn't really do much hammer and dolly work or anything. i just made it kinda straight and painted it with a brush... i wanted a jalopy, so that's what i'll get. |

after another long, productive day here at Casa de Gow, I have a little progress to show for it.
radiator freshened up some. grille repainted. straightened out the gravel pan and bolted it back on. i kinda like it there. it's almost racy. ![]() engine is a little cleaner: ![]() made a shifter knob from a porcelain door knob that used to be in my grandparents' house:

The more I see these T Roadsters on A Chassis builds makes me want to take the same route with my Chassis. Now all I have to do is talk that guy at Church out of his T Roadster body ![]() Keep the updates coming , great kick in the pants to get moving and inspiration. |

the RoG plan is still tentative because af my usual involvement in the Gathering of the Faithful. I have to see if I can get out of that for this year without causing any issues. Hoping for the best.

need to:
-heat the pedals and move them over. -heat shifter and give it some curve to clear my knee. -mount the body solid. -tank and fuel line, pump, pressure reg, etc. -ignition and battery. -headlights and stand. -wire taillight and mount plate frame. -windshield. I still need to buy the tank and electrics and hunt down a windshield and headlights, so progress might slow a little now. but i feel pretty good about where i am. and i can always work on the interior while i wait for the other stuff to show up. |

^^ hahaha. when Andy was here last night, we both climbed in and without him leaning out of the car and his legs hugging the door, I couldn't shift it. So, i think this is a solo vehicle. or maybe short trips with Becky.

Has a nice ring, but I think that's made up for wiki, cuz I've never heard this place called that before. Maybe out of towners call it that. But certainly no one that lives here does...

Man....This is SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't even know that you were messing around with this!!!! I thought that you were working on the A truck!! I LOVE IT!!!! I'd thought aboutsplash aprons on mine tooo but wasn't sure how they would look. After seeing the "Silver City", I may have to scrounge another set for the 'Dust Bowl"!! (which really looks like the little POS that it is compared to this one!!!)
Keep it up man!!! |

paul's A's little brother. and thank you for saying so. means a lot.
yep, that's my stuff on CL. trying to move some stuff that i know i won't use to raise some money to finish this up. i'm kinda surprised more of that stuff hasn't gone. i know there are A stocker guys around, but no one wants fenders... and that model T Rival winter front grille...surprised that's still here. anyway. thanks for the compliments. i appreciate the connection to paul's car. |

bugsy- from what i can tell from your pics (and i have visited them on webshots and looked at them full screen...a lot...) i'd say your metal is at least as nice as mine. mine's just got paint. hahaha.
i sold the A truck a month or so ago, and this roadster body fell in my lap a week later. then the chassis a couple weeks after that, and voila. making progress almost daily. waiting on some ignition parts now. but working on better seating arrangement for this 6' 3" frame...been studying Dennis Lacy's T roadster on 32 rails, as he cut the toe boards out and made the floor flat further forward. neat set up. |

That would be a great set up for the floor. I'm only 5"11 and I think that I sit too high in mine and I'm pushing it for leg room!!
I can't wait to see more!!! |

gotta fix the 54 starter (just got back with one). then it's back on the roadster. Hopefully progress on the floor soon. I have some model A toe board supports, and i am thinking about trimming those to fit at a steeper angle. We'll see.
oh, i also scored a stock 27 cowl gas tank. so i can go the tried and true gravity feed route. no modern electric cheating! woot! |

removed the seat pan and the bump that curves into the cabin right at the small of your back. had to make room for (as Slick Willy called it yesterday) my giant viking ass (i think it was a compliment, at least, i choose to take it that way). gonna put a straight section of sheet metal in there, and then cut a flat plywood floor, and remount the seat pan on that in a manner in accordance with the needs of my viking-ness.
![]() mounted a single tail light in the middle on a license plate hanger. haven't decided whether to fill those existing holes, or put some tail lights in there. it had '42 Fords in there before, but those are a little too new for this effort. repro '39s fit in there too, but they're...well...repros. so i dunno. i'll stew on it.

Your roadster project is great. Should be a very good representation of a pre-War hot rod. I think it's quite interesting that you are using the Model A aprons. Never seen that done on a T before but the look works. In fact, with everything but the body being essentially Model A, it gives the impression that a guy bought a sedan or some other undesirable (at the time), chucked the body and screwed down a roadster body for an instant jalopy.
I'm glad I could be of help with your floor planning. I also think at your height that getting rid of the hump will help a lot. It's amazing what just a couple of inches can do for comfort! I'll keep watching.

you read my mind! it's 1938, your dad's old 29 fordor is sitting out beside the barn. he's been threatening to chop the back off it and make it a pickup truck. you've been bugging him to use it to make a jalopy, and finally he says that if you ACTUALLY do something with it this summer, you can have it. you've been saving your money from working at the grocer's since you graduated, so you have a little money to play with. and since going to college to study art like you dream of isn't really an option, and you're expected to go work at the stove factory in the fall, you are determined to have a little fun. so, you go hunting in the junk yard and find a 27T roadster body and drag it home. over the course of those last few weeks of freedom before factory life, you drag everything into the barn, and just before summer's end you fire up the jalopy and are rewarded for your efforts by flying around the park in the center of town until the cops chase you back out to your parents' farm by the airport where you continue to tear up the roads with that cool breeze of late summer freedom in your face.
or, something like that. Quote:

Thansk Derrick. I thought of the Shakedown when I named this. Figured we'd have a conversation about it at some point.
I hope to have it at the Alter Boys show in whatever condition it's in at that point. |

Had a great day with lots of friends stopping by. Jared (Angry Frenchman) came by in the morning and he welded in the new bottom half of my back panel. I didnt get any pics of that before the seat went in. but it's all good. Then Kevin (Crazy Uncle Harry) came by and he and Jared and I bent up the pedals to work better with the T floors, and allow us to center the body on the frame.
Bill (Slick Willy) came by and we worked on building some subrails for the trunk area. Shoot I forgot to take pics of that stuff too. Sheesh, I told you I suck at build threads. While Bill and I worked on that Becky and Moose (Moose) worked on the seat. Some time ago I found an old leather sofa by the side of the road. The leather is perfectly distressed and the perfect color of baseball glove brown. It looks awesome. Here are some pics of the progress we made today. headlights mounted on the finished stands: ![]() ![]() Heated pedals and shifter to make room for the Viking: ![]() And, the new leather seat: ![]() ![]() ![]() The ignition stuff shipped today, and should be here early next week, and I should be getting my windshield posts from Mikey (Cactus1) early in the week too. Just need a few more things to wrap it up, the biggest hurdle to clear seems to be the windshield frame... So there we are as of tonight. I'm a happy camper with some good pals. Thanks all for a great, productive day. |

we worked til about 7 or 730 then ordered chinese and ate in the shop.
Kevin is probably going to RoG and said that he would pull a trailer with his truck. The only problem with that plan is that we wouldn't be leaving til several hours after the rest of us, and would be headed home Saturday night. So I'd have to drive something else down there too. It is a good fall back plan, but I'd like something a little more convenient. So we'll see. I was thinking about renting a small box truck. I could back it into the side of the hill out back and roll the roadster right on, and assuming there was something similar down there, it might work. I dunno. |

got the body mounts made, and a few of them installed.
mostly worked on becky's new car. we finally sold our last modern car. becky's new daily is a '62 rambler american. runs and drives great, but needs paint and interior. so we're stripping it now, while she's on vacation this week. |

Damn man....the "Silver City" seat screams, "Pardon me, but do you have any Grey Poupon"??!!

The more I look at this, the more I like the splash aprons. I thought about running them on the "Dust Bowl" but wasn't sure how they'd look...now I know!!
I understand the too many irons in the fire bit too. I can't focus worth a hoot on one thing long enough to make any headway! Did get the lights going this weekend though and that was a huge leap forward for me!! Keep it up man!!! LOVE IT!!!! |

focus is back tomorrow, Jason. I have 8 days before classes start. The pressure is on.
I need to find a windshield frame for it. new ones are so spendy, plus it wouldn't look right. |

i've been mired in some grown up mud for the last several days, but i finally got into the shop to get a little accomplished. got some wiring done, but not as much as i'd hoped.
i also got a chance to make the steering wheel a little better looking. it was pretty beat up, so all i could do is make it better. several twine wrapped race inspired steering wheels have been showing up lately. i like them, but wanted to add my own twist. i've been into bicycles for my whole life, and was in the industry for longer than i care to admit. i wanted to blend some old style cloth handlebar tape with the twine, and this is what i came up with. ![]()

got the 'lower' part of the wiring redone. gen cut out to battery to terminal box. push starter button and it turns.
now to brave the ignition/spark side, which i think is what gave me problems this morning. i think i had a bad ammeter that shorted everything out. so, let's see what happens now... |

Not sure on generators, but with alternantors, they go in line from the battery terminal on your starter, to the battery terminal on the alternantor. |

Keith, like this:
![]() All I can figure is that there was a short in the ammeter. i redid it with a different ammeter, and no cablooey. So that's good. |

Things are looking good GOW !! Love the steering wheel and Becky's ride. You don't see cars like that every day. Hope the wiring gremlins have decided to bother someone else.
I'm really lucky Scott did all mine for me (and the brake and fuel lines)...That stuff boggles my mind.

Yep, that's it, Mark...basically the same as an the feed with an alternater.
Test each item in short bursts with the power on (battery connected), and make sure each is OK, before moving on to the next. You don't have that many wires, so you'll have it all set in no time! Good luck...and keep having fun!!!

fuse between starter and the wire to the terminal box?
then how do you complete the circuit that the ammeter usually does? |

hey Mark, the ignition system on the wiring diagram that Bugsy is showing you is very different from a stock Model A. It's one or the other. Most people will understand the one Bugsy posted because it is the closes to a modern style so it makes it the easy to understand for everybody if something goes wrong. I wanted to swing by this week but school and preping for racing at the Orange drag reunion has me tied up. The roadster is looking good!!! Jared

didn't have much time this weekend to work on the roadster. yesterday was my sister's 40th birthday, and today i've spent the afternoon on schoolwork after a morning at the ty-rods show.
i did get the tank in and fuel lines hooked up. it's kinda good news, bad news. tank holds fuel, good. lines hold fuel, good. carb gets fuel, good. carb pisses fuel like an incontinent elephant, bad. i have another carb i'll swap over. maybe after class tomorrow. getting closer. but my dream of having it at Alter Boys show seems to be dwindling. |

i feel sorta silly posting this, cuz i don't really like being the center of attention, and there are a lot of people way more worthy of movies made about their talents. but it does articulate in a well edited sort of way the "why" i even keep going out to the garage.
i also learned i need to ride my bike more. American Hand, Pt III: https://vimeo.com/49130022 |

Dude, don't hold back! I need a decklid, or that is, a better decklid inner. I need a hookup!
Edit: Oh, and I can't wait to check out the vid, at home. I don't have speakers at my desk.
