Default beater bag

I bought one of those leather beater bags and wondering what to put in it? I've always heard lead shot is the best but the guy I got it from said to use oo sand which should I use? thanks dave

I don't want to breathe silica or lead dust; I put steel shot in mine. It works fine for me.

About ten years ago my son needed some traction in his Ranger so filled half an inner tube up with sand from Sunset Beach (Oregon). It's been sitting out off the stoop of the garage side door for years as a step. I removed the tie wire from one end and emptied about half the sand out, cut half the tube off and tied it shut again.

As did I, silica free it said. I can lift it, which is apparently harder when its full of metal.
