I demand to know who's responsible for the sound track on these videos. They should be taken out back and beaten savagely. Or better yet, forced to stand all day and night on the elevator only roughly perched inside the Boise, Idaho Holiday Inn. No m... Wow, my own backyard. I had no idea we had so many cool hot rods in our history (I'm sure others will be less surprised). Then again I was only 1 when this was filmed. I'm a bit proud. Cool.

I totally dig the footage and I left the sound on... but perhaps the Aussies could adjust our ears to what would have been the popular music of this sweet time and idyllic place.

I saw these the other night when Andrew posted on... Facebook. I posted the next day no one commented so edited the post and I removed links. Ryan, nice to see you feature this on the main page where they can reach many people. There are actually 8 videos which I have downloaded off youtube. That red '32 is so typical of early Australian Hot Rodding. Also that Red Bucket with the side pipes has always been high on my list of early Oz rods.

Hey I liked the music, mabey its the mood I'm in today. Ryan, you commented the Aussies were ten years behind us in styles, that looked to be true in'65 but I don't think the same is true today. Normal Norman

That's the generic "Put grandpa's 8mm movies on VHS" music that all of the commercial services used to use.
Thank God my parents opted for the ragtime score, much more entertaining.

Ryan / Drewfus - Great stuff! ... Thanks for sharing these videos with us!
As for the music ... while I agree it doesn't fit this vintage movie footage, I did kinda dig it ... so much so that I looked into the artist: Tommy Emmanuel
Four-time winner of Australia's Best Guitarist award, has helped bring the art of rock guitar down under to a higher awareness over his two-decade-long career by bringing a sense of jazz improvisation into a mix that also includes blues, country, rock, classical, and Spanish music. After years as a popular sideman and ace songwriter, the two-time ARIA (Aussie Grammys equivalent) award winner launched his solo career in 1988 with 'Up from Down Under'. Several releases have followed, most notably his critically acclaimed 1993 release 'The Journey', which hit high on Gavin and Radio & Records NAC airplay charts. He has shown a mastery and affinity for both electric and acoustic axes and has been singled out by the likes of notable musicians such as Chet Atkins, with whom he recorded 'The Day Finger Pickers Took Over the World' in 1997, and Todd Rundgren as being an innovator on the instrument. 'Only' appeared in 2001, followed by 2002's 'Endless Road' (it was finally released in the U.S. three years later), 2005's 'Live One', and 2006's 'Happy Hour' (with Jim Nichols) and 'Mystery'. ~ Jonathan Widran, Rovi

Ahhh the traditional HOCKEY STICK START!
Yeah, I know I'm weird, but I like the late 70's score....makes me think it was a local TV station from say, '78 and they did a "Nostalgia" piece about the local history of Drag Racing. Do Aussie TV sets work alright...I mean, considering they're upside down an' all that... |
