Event Coverage ***Antique Nationals, 200 photos

I stopped by the Antique Nationals on sunday for few hours and shot some photos for all those who could not attend....





The day started off with the typical "June Gloom" the coastal fog that we get every year at the transition from Spring to Summer as the Pacific Ocean warms up.
The sun broke through at about 9:00.

Here's a HAMBers hard work just to prove that ingenuity still thrives....
This fella also is a huge, respected volunteer in our town that is one of several people responsible for our entry in the Rose Parade each New Years Day. He is part of the crew that constructs our float in the parade each year.
And we do win our share of awards, too!

Walking over to the driver's meeting I noticed that there is a much better view of the other side of the "605 Freeway" from this vantage point than there is when you are driving on the freeway.
This area that is now full of electrical equipment was the site of the San Gabriel Drag Strip which ran from the 1950's until 1963 when it closed to become the facility site that it is today.
San Gabriel was the first strip that my Dad took me to in the 1950's when I was about 9 years old. That's the same day that I found out that a cactus does not make for a good seat to sit on.
It's also where I took many of my first photos when I was 11 or so.
Also the site for the legendary match race between Tommy Ivo and "The Untouchable" jet dragster and where I first saw Garlits, "the Greek", the Mazmanian Corvette, Greer, Black and Prudhomme, .....etc., etc....
