The blue is from a New Mini, A74, Oxygen Blue. It's very similar to the original colour of the car.

The most interesting thing about the colors and combination thereof is the comments that it will generate when you take it to a car show. I can say this because of the color of my car. DARE TO BE DIFFERENT.

No, it's not my first paint job, I work at a Body Shop as a painter. It's Standox Standohyd Base coat with Dupont ChromaPremier 72500S clear. I used a Sata 3000 RP with a 1.2 tip for the base and a Sata 4000 RP with a 1.3 tip for the clear.

The gold is a Toyota colour. The code is 580, but I don't remember the name right now.

Thank you for giving me a complete answer (paint type, tip used etc). I love seeing the time, dedication and effort of those that dedicate their lives to achieving greatness in this particular art form. Love it..

Thanks for all you encouragement. I had a few moments while I was painting when I wasn’t so sure about the gold but I’m defiantly happy with it now. I brought the car home late this afternoon.

Looks good. I was unsure about the gold, but i think it will look a lot better with the stainless and glass in.

I like the subtleness of the body modifications on your car. Cant wait to see it all put together

I didn't like it until I saw the outside pics, now I do. Reminds me of that Barris chopped hardtop, the second version with the bright colors, not sure what it was called but it's got a very similar look to it. Should look real nice all assembled.

I believe your thinking of the second version of Father Larry Ernst’s Chevy. It was one of the ones that inspired me to do something a little crazy with the colour.

Congrats, be proud of the accomplishment, I really like the colors too, and it'll really come together with all the stainless and chrome to top it off. Good luck on the rest.

If this is a "what do you think" post, I'm not feelin it. Looks like good work on a well done car, by the description it was done right. Charcoal grey flake on the roof would be better. Anything but white or silver, or perhaps gold. I don't think it's a lost cause, and by you saying you weren't sure about it at 1st speaks toward the basis of my comment. To pull it off completely I'd paint the wheels the same color as the roof and make sure it gets some pinstripes that bring the roof color to the rest of the party. I don't think it's butt ugly, and I don't think I'd do it, and I've done some shit that had me 2nd guessing before, during, and especially, after! Still, it's really nice work. I know the feeling all too well. Just sayin, and I don't mean to offend.

Thanks for your input. I’m actually surprised but how few negative responses I’ve gotten. I had been thinking about painting the wheels the same color as the roof. I’m going to running full wheel covers so that little bit of gold between the wheel cover and the white wall might tie the whole thing together nicely.

Not a fan of 2 tone roof and body, but can't fault the bodywork and paint. Nice fit and finish. As for color, it would be pretty boring if we painted them all the same color. Congrats on a job well done. Pat

I love it! It isn't a color combo I would have oringinally picked, but after seeing it done, it is truly stunning! Nice job, and I think you should do the wheels the color of the roof. It would look killer.

Exactly the one I was thinking of, and a great car to take inspiration from. If someone just described a car to me in light blue with a gold roof, I think I'd hate it, but seeing it in the pictures, I think it'll look great when it's finished. Especially if all of the visible mods to the car are kept in the same period.

I'm excited to see what it looks like with trim in place.

Nice color choices. I think that your car is "your car" doesn't matter one anyone thinks as long as you like it. I've painted to of mine crazy color combos with lace and fades...lots of gold too. I love the blue and the gold that you chose. That car would look good solid in either of those colors, but the two-tone is your unique choice. All that being said-nice job!

Paint work looks awesome. Put me down as another die hand fan of gold and the different shades of it Azter, Olympic, etc. My droptop is a variation of this color.

It's my back up light. It was on the car when I got and I thought it was cool so I kept it. It says Electroline Modle 82 on the back of it. Originaly it had a small bar that ran across the face of the light but it got broken when I shipped it to the chromer. I've tried looking for info on it but haven't had any luck.

I was trying to put together my vent windows the other night when I discovered I’m missing a couple pieces! I need the little pivot point piece that rivets to the frame that holds the glass. I’m also missing the push pins that fit in the vent window handles.

Anyone have any of these they don’t need?

I'm starting to understand how some projects go unfinished for years. Nothing has been going smoothly. My windshield finial arrived this week, in the wrong province ...and broken. I was going to put in the quarter windows today but the new rubber gaskets don't fit very nice. I still haven't found the pieces for my vent windows that I'm missing. The top piece of my grill was located and a friend of mine was going to pick it up this weekend, hopefully it's OK. Oh well it’s all nothing more money won’t fix. I feel a little better now after venting.

My avatar was a beach last month as well. I left her alone, then slid up real easy like one day to get re-aquatinted. And the gas gauge has not glitch'd once since. Then the billet/urethane carrier bearing installation-bingo smooth as ice. Next up: peel and seal the interior. Good luck in the next task.

How in the world could anyone think those two colors go together!! I really want to hate that paint scheme, but for the life of me I just can't. When I look at the gold roof and the blue body separately, they just don't go, but when I look at the car as a whole it looks great, I can't explain it.

I do however think one of the previous posters is right in that I'd paint the wheels the same color as the roof and bring the roof color down into the body with some pinstripping. I'm really looking forward to seeing her when she's all done. Great Job!

I'm with Highlander on the idea of painting the wheels to match the roof. There is a local meat plant here in OK called Blue & Gold Sausage, and their packaging colors are a dead ringer for the colors on your car! Of course, the UCLA Bruins colors match, too!

I really like the way you've taken your Chevy. Unique, without being weird or fugly.

I have to say I like the colors and the car is looking very nice. Would be good to see it in person on one of my yearly jaunts out to the west coast.

I went down to Puyallup this weekend and saw this.

I was kinda surprised to see another blue car with a gold roof! It's going to be like flat black with red wheels now.

I picked up the pieces I needed fro the vent windows from the chrome shop today! So now I can put the doors together. I put the grill on last night and got the hood to latch right. But I'm still waiting for the windshield.

I applaud your choice of colors and willingness to go out on the limb to be different. I have attached a better photo of the Larry ernst clone to show the colors better. Barris was also bold to lead the way with colors, much to the betterment (in most cases) of Kustom cars. Hope to see your car in person one day especially with all the trim (jewelry) back on it. Re: I painted my car today!

Great Job!

You took the words right out of my mouth! I agree with some stripes of that roof color.

The colors are different but great! A nice set of very well polished full wheel covers like early sombreros or lyons caps definitily would favor the bright colors.

I like this car a lot, and am a huge fan of un-chopped 49-51 chevy business coupes.

Whats under the hood???

I have a set of '50 Olds caps for it that I was going to be running. But I've been thinking about getting a set of the '57 Lancer Caps for it. The ones with the original gold night in the center not the bullets.

What do you guys think?

It's got a straight 6 with the 3 speed in it still.

I have a buddy coming over tomorrow morning to help me take off the trunk lid so we I can put on the weather strip. Mine came with instructions so I’ll scan them later to night and post if for you. But the longer one goes on the trunk lid, down the sides and around past the latch and the shorter one goes in the trunk jamb under the back window.

I really like the color combination on this one. Stance is great to.
I hope you will NOT cover up all those smooth lines on the car with pin-striping.
The was it is gives me a feel like this car was built in the early 1950's and used as an ever day driver.
Very nice.

Got my vote, two thumbs up! That style of Chevy coupe screams for a two-tone. Your color choice sets it apart (in a good way). I like it.

Thanks Rik.
That's kind of what I had in mine for the car. I imagined it as an almost new car a younger guy would have had and done a few mild custom things to it with out spending a tonne of money on it.

I have thought about adding spot lights for that period correct look but I don't really like the look of them

Man that looks good! I'd paint the edge of the rim that you have black, red. That really sets off a car in my opinion. And it's traditional.

Thanks. It's got the stock front end with cut coils and the droped Fat Man uprights. The rear is custom made leaf springs and blocks with Air bags on the stock rear end to lift it up when I need to.

I love the colours, but then I would........I did a similar combination on my (English) '59 Ford, 4 years back. 2 great minds think alike

Adding the chrome and aluminium trim helps the colours match.

Your car look prety cool. Adding all the trim on mine has really made to colors pop.

Maybe we should start a club for only blue and gold cars.

Where in Scotland are you? I was over there in ‘94, it’s a nice place. My mother-in-law is Scottish.

Well, a year after I painted my car it still isn't quite done. It's at a Mechanic I know's shop right now getting the engine tuned up and the interior is in boxes waiting for the car to come home.

These are a couple pics I took the other day. (before I got the wheel covers back from being polished)
