The Project: 1947 Chevy Sedan Delivery, with it's too small original doors. Got a donor coupe off ebay, and removed doors and surrounds. Had them stripped. So today I took a break from harassing rat rodders and FNG's and did some work.
Made measurements for a rough opening and removed original B pillar and surrounding metal. Hung a new door and set gaps and body lines. Measured and cut spot welds from outer rocker and B pillar on donor parts. The coupe doors roll slightly down at the tops so that will be addressed after the lower section is welded in. Cleaned metal, placed new B pillar in place and set the door gap. Scribed and cut existing quarters. That's where I left off. Will continue tomorrow and post progress.

Now you have to chop it and make some fade aways for it
I have often dreamed of using these same parts to build a chopped early style custom sedan delivery, full on late 40's style build, great work I cant wait to see what else you have planned !

Gotta buddy [my body man] who put tudor sedan doors on his 46 ford delivery...looks much better. I was collecting up a pair of tudor sedan doors for my 50 chevy delivery before I sold it. It's a great idea and makes it easier to get in and out of the car..and with 40s chevy deliveries? Brings the doors/quarters back into porportion.. I dig your coupe doors with slanted posts. The angle prolly closely matches the angle of the back of the car...C-pillars.

Nah just kidding. It's more done than I posted above. Here is that section. I trimmed the Back of the B pillar where glass channel used to be. It is now the same depth as the original reveal. It's trimmed on the inside and will get tig welded from the inside, and possibly a small tig filet weld on the outside. It's a butt weld, no gaps. The donor B pillar is just sitting there for pics. The inside area still needs to be cleaned before welding.

nice. I thought really hard about doing that to mine in the early stages of the build--you're more ambitious than I was--ultimatley I decided I wanted it on the road worse than I wanted the doors. can't wait to see the end results

There was a "sketchpad" or something in the '90's in a Street Rodder (maybe custom rodder?).....I am drawing a lot of blanks here.....maybe Foose did the drawings? Anyway, it was a whole series of deliveries with coupe doors and the slanted b-pillar. I thought it was a GREAT idea then, and it's awesome to see it being done here!

I think it was a guy from Custom Rodder magazine that did that with a same year Ford, and he included the quarter windows as well.
cool idea. |

This was a sweet idea. I would have thought to use 2 door sedan doors so you could just move the vertical pillar backward but the canted pillars on the coupe doors are going to look much nicer. I look forward to seeing it finished.

Thanks for the good feedback guys. Couldn't finish Friday, had to build a grille for a Fiat going to Pebble Beach. Monday I'll be back at it.

Ooops, I mean grille and insert. As to what Fiat, lame as it is, I don't know. I got the job second hand and was asked to fix/fabricate what they gave me. So I built a buck, squared the grille and made a new insert surround. Kinda fun working with brass. Never did much with it before. I assume it's not a million dollar car.... I think a 25-28 Fiat. Not much different than a Model A grille. Which gives me ideas for my A.

I'll go look into what a 25-28 FIAT looks like. Have you seen this thread on Brass Grille work? Bob http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...ing+with+brass

Monday Update. Finished the Fiat grille. Finish welded the lower half, and started on the upper. Lots of cut and paste and tack in place. Ready for finish weld. I partially fit the window surround, will cut and flatten the top of the window frame tomorrow. Should have 1 side done tomorrow. Second side always (usually) (sometimes) goes quicker.

The slanted B-pillars from the coupe doors look great. Much nicer than a more vertical 2-door sedan door. Very nice work.

Drivers side done, pass side half way. Had to remove a horrible 80's gas filler door and shrink the wavy panels first.

I am doing the same thing to my 41 except i stretched the frame and make the pass compartment a little bigger, used the coupe firewall, doors and the b pillar, and the roof. had another frame so i only have 1 seam in it.
