Ok... I finally joined the Deuce club after finding this gennie 5 Window. Owning a Deuce coupe has been on my bucket list. After reading about the countless Deuces coming out of barns and garages after many years of storage and neglect, I was very fortunate to have my turn. The story as I know it the previous owner started the project in the early 80's, got most of the way done, lost interest, then died.
It's a very clean body with a some very non-HAMB friendly styling. It is set up for a SBC with a turbo 350. Has a 9 Inch rear and a tubular front axle. The paint and interior is very 80's retro .... Short term plans are to put a 350/350 with 3 deuces in it, switch the wheels from the true spokes to steel wheels/bias tires. Dump the glass fenders it came with and find some steel ones. Obviously change the dash cluster to something cool as well. I would love to chop it but ...... |

Great find! It looks really straight.
I'd leave it full fendered, unchopped, reshoot the entire car black, dye the interior black, drop a SBC in it and start enjoying driving it for now (by Summer!!!)-on the tru spokes. |

The handle at the top of the lid means it is set up for a rumble seat. ![]() ____________________________ Nice find. The hood sides are repros but it looks to be a NICE 5W. A set of steelies and paint the fenders to match the body and DRIVE IT. Congratulations ... .

Whats wrong with the 'glass fenders, they're straight and shiny, I'd spend my money on dressing up a stout sbc and new rolling stock ( I HATE truspokes ). Nice score by the way.

That thing is nice !
You could almost pull off a 60's style build with that paint, at any rate I'd change wheels and interior and leave the rest. Well you's have to get it up and driving too.

Great looking car but if you put a bowtie in it you might as well get some plastic surgery so you can not only be like everyone else but also look like everyone else. Get a flattie with three carbs, maybe a 371 blower and a four speed. There is so much cool stuff out there and putting a 350/350 shows you only have taste in your mouth.

I sorta dig the paint.
If it were mine- Steelies to match the light green, Big n Littles. I wouldn't worry about the interior much, its not terrible (for now) no fenders If you run the hood, SBC is fine. (for now) I'd get it on the road, enjoy the snot out of it, and collect parts for a "more traditional" conversion down the road. Amazing score.

Unbelievable find. That is nice. Now just a little re-doing to make it yours. Listen to you, not how every one else wants you to build it.

Nice car to start with. When you chop it put some drip rails back on. |

SBC? Kool! Beats the hell outta 3X the cost for a full house blown flathead. I might consider an OD trans, but hey it's yours so go for it. I'm on the fence about the colors. I like greens but those are, well, you already know. I hear ya on the glass fenders. It's like having to settle for drive-through fast food when you're really hungry. I can't knock anything in the car you didn't already, but I might be inclined to hang on to those wheels for a while. If not for this, maybe some day down the road...
FWIW, I like the idea of fenderless and no rumble seat. If you keep the colors, lose the interior, and maybe something unique in the wheel/tire dept. Steelies are always a good choice, but also becoming really popular. Maybe some period full wheel covers and fat whites. You asked...

I wouldn't chop it. If you want a choppded top car, sell this one off and buy a chopped 5-window body. Otherwise, build it and drive it.

I'd bolt it together, and drive it as is, then change it a little at a time. Keeps the number of project cars you have down at least a little!! Maybe put some American TTO's on it to give it to give it a later 60's vibe. Time to come up with a new nickname, Doug...the Falcons seem to be getting squeezed from the nest!!

I like it!!........Drop a motor and trans in it and enjoy it, I think the paint and interior is cool looking. You do not see cars built like this anymore, this was done in a 70's style when street rods (hot rods) were bad ass, long before bare steel and rust holes were cool. finishing that car the way it is would get you my respect, (not like that means anything) Or strip it down to No interior, Flat black paint, and wide whites and be like every other cookie cutter car at the cruise nights...Just my 2 cents

Personally I like the green as I am getting rather tired of seeing seas of black cars at rod trots screaming that "my owner has no frigging imagination and doesn't he know that all of those "black" cars in the black and white pages of the magazines of the 50's weren't black?"

Jeff.. it was late last night .... I stand corrected 'restro' ![]() The interior is growing on me. My wife loves the paint, which is a plus. She normally does not like the paint on any of the cars I have/had..... Chopping the car is out of the question for now unless I were to start from scratch. As it sits, I have 1 inch of head room. I would have to drop the seat and push it back, which makes the rumble totally unusable. Like you said, sell it and buy what I want instead. I will be scrounging the parts I need this summer and more than likely be asking you for advise ! Thanks again for going to look at it with me ! |

The interior is a little to much, but I would run it till I had something better. The green is kinda cool to. Cool car. Even it is too retro, it's way nice already than anything I own.

It really does have a cool 70's resto rod vibe. You stole it . . . and I'm glad you decided to pull the trigger on it, because it kept me outta a whole heap of trouble with my wife!
I see having 3 sets of wheels & tires for the car -- each of which would give ti a very distinct look. Set 1: Keep the True Spokes and radials that are on it. Set 2: Old American mags in 15" with big & little radials. Set 3: 15" steelies in black with simple Ford caps or baby moons with bias-ply blackwalls. Keep the fiberglass fenders. You have them, they fit, they're shiny. Done. Change the gauges to old SW's and add an engine turned panel. If it were a keeper, I could see a possible re-do on the interior to all black tuck & roll by stichbitch. You should pick up some Street Rodder mags from the 70's. This car looks like it jumped right off the pages! Can't wait to help you spend some money on it.

It's hard to call that a barn find, wow what a body. I've read the whole thread and no one has mentioned the hood, looks like a 25 louver. If you think you paid to much Research that a little for a shock. Or better yet don't research and I'll give you a 1,000 for it.

Assemble, drive, worry about details later. The paint is shiny and will do for now, and the interior is complete and will serve as well. Drive it like crazy and who cares if it wears/chips. Drive it every day, put 100k miles on it then repaint it and reupholster it when it is worn out....that's what I'm doing.

The hood sides are perfect, so I thought they were re-poped. I was not planning on running them so I could show off the 3 deuces ... I better go dig them out of the garbage can

They are repops, Deuce Roadster stated it earlier in the post. the front two louvers are shorter than the rest on real ones, rootlieb has finally worked out correct repops on them. JEFF

Congratulations - nice find!
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I like those wires. What's going on with the drip rails, or are my eyes playing tricks on me?

I like everything about it, even the wood dash panel. Go ahead, crucify me, its my opinion....
I think you should finish the mechanics and run it as it is.

Same as the rest on here, if I was starting from scratch I'd do it different, BUT - you've got a kind of resto rod timewarp here, hit the road 70's style! Maybe down the road you'll be glad you did!

Instead of changing the car just go to a thrift store and buy a polyester leisure suit and an 8-track player and you will be cruising in style in no time!

I don't really see the 80's there so much as possibly the 70's, and I think that is kind of cool.
I would paint the fenders to match the body. Throw the car together with a small block and stick a set of big and little 5 spoke chrome Cragars on it and call it a day for a few summers. Drive it. Enjoy it. Find out what really needs changed, but I think you might be surprised how many people would dig the 70's vibe. And put that damn hacksaw down! |

Titus, are you sure ??? Oh well... It's quite the rear end.... speechless I was when I first saw it
![]() The better shot is the underside... you can see a bit of it here in the photo.... too clean for a guy who never washes his cars and lives on a dirt road ...... |

I can see that I'm in the minority here. I'm with the guys that would leave it as is.
This is what they looked like when I was a youngster. If it were a true 80's build instead of 70's style, it would have enough billet to make you puke. Wheels are about all I wouldn't want to keep.

Thanks for all of the responses regarding my new Deuce. The excitement of the car is still having me bounce off the garage walls. It's like I am still dreaming I actually bought the car
![]() Unfortunately I won't be able to start working on it until later this summer. I need to get my roadster back on the road after being tore apart in my shop for the last 2 years. I will be hitting the swap meets hard this summer trying to gather the right parts. I do take most of the comments seriously. The plans are.... - Don't touch the body. The paint has really grown on me. Never would I have painted a car like this, but it's not a belly button car ..... - SBC / turbo 350 with vintage parts. Not what I dreamed of in a hot rod. I always wanted a nailhead or Olds Rocket, or Y-block with a T5.... But tearing the body off to redo the fabulous work that has been done is taking a big step backwards. Perhaps I'll change it later. - Three Deuces. - No hood, or perhaps just the top. - Leave the interior until I wear it out, replacing several years from now with weathered black leather. - Change the wheels to steel, with big / little bias plies. Black or white walls is the question? Perhaps keep the wires to change it up once in a while. - Sell the glass fenders and get gennie steel ones that are nice or repairable. Having glass fenders would just bug the crap out of me.... that's just me.... but I have glass rear fenders on my 36 3W and I never have gotten over that. Paint the fenders black. - Drive the piss out of the car |

Yeah. When I opened this thread I was expecting some pink with lazer stripes down the side. That green paint is RAD!
(But I would burn the interior) haha. Green and White vinyl tuck and roll, or black diamond vinyl. You got a cool car there. Enjoy it! |

Good plan Doug, my vote is Black or dark green 16" steel wheels with black walls and mercury caps/ rings, I would run a hood top or a full hood unless the SBC you choose is dressed all in period goodies ( generator, front oil fill tube etc) I like the steel fender idea, no need for plastic around here. The green paint is beautiful and to redo a paint job these days is too damn expensive .

The wheels are not Tru-spokes or Daytons. They are Zenith wires.

Old thread I know but I'm with Goatdave...I like the color. I think it would be easy to work with the existing paint and still make it traditional with the right interior change and wheel combo.
