Default Shed Find #2...'32 Roadster

Guys...
I have really went & done it this time. I am sure that you all remember my "Shed Find 3 Window" from around 2 years ago. Here is her sister, an all original & somewhat complete B roadster. I had thought this car disappeared years ago, but I got a call a couple of weeks ago from the owner to see if I was interested in it! Yes, it's rough, but it's a gennie & probably the only one I'll be able to afford any time soon. The body is pitted but fairly sound except for usual patch panels needed...the doors are toast (a shame cause one is an early style). So today, Skwurl & myself dragged her home...

This car sat outside for years, and has been covered for the last 25 or so. I have been told by other locals that they watched the car being unloaded from a train in the late 50's/early60's. The new owner supposedly then put NOS doors on it & let it just sit, pissing all of the local rodders off. I heard about the car for years, but by the time I actually found out where it was, I was told by others that it was gone. In actuality, he built the shed around it to keep people from harassing him.
The car is pitted, but still pretty solid. The subrails are usable with a little work, will need usual lower patches & back panel. All of the interior bracing is intact & usable & the trunk gutters are in good shape. I will need to find a set of doors, although I may try to salvage the early one. I also got front fenders & a perfect 25 louver hood with it. Although I am more of a coupe guy, the Deuce nut in me couldn't pass it up.

What a great find! Knowing about a car for all these years and finally finding it must have felt great. Please explain what an "Early" 1932 Ford Roadster door is. Is that front axle a "heavy" the ends look like a '33 or later. Bob

No, it's not a heavy axle. I would think that it is original to the car, but the car has an early firewall & the one early door, so who knows. As for the early door, at the top where the outer skin folds over into the inside of the door, the piece is a lot longer and isn't a straight cut like the later ones. This is the piece that the door panel slides up into. I will post a picture of this later in the day...

Thanks! Always good to learn a few things, Ford had a bunch of different open car doors in 26-27.

DANG!! Yep, that's too rough, and you've got too many cool cars already.

Since I'm right up the road, I'll take it off your hands.

Seriously, where did you find it? You're a bloodhound on this stuff.

I heard about the car for years, but by the time I actually found out where it was, I was told by others that it was gone. In actuality, he built the shed around it to keep people from harassing him.
.
I kinda had a 32 story like that. Back in the mid-1990's I moved to a new part of the state. During one of my explorations of the area I spotted a 32 5W behind a barn with the tarp blowing off it. I stopped to see if it was for sale. The old guy had had it since 1955 and it had been sitting in that spot for at least 25 years. All the local guys knew about it, but it never was for sale. The old guy was just recovering from a stroke and had decided that he was never going to get around to it. All he wanted now was a riding lawn mower. So for the price of a nice riding mower ($1200), I bought the rusty remains of the coupe. It was tough, but it yielded some good parts for my Dad's 32 and I more than made my money back in it's resale. Sometime you just have to be in the right place at the right time. BTW, I passed on another 32 5W not 3 miles from this one that was an old hot rod for about $6500. I'm kicking myself on that one but when you're in your early 20's ya just don't have that kinda dough to toss around.

Thanks for the comments, I will post some more pics tomorrow when I get in. As to plans, I haven't really decided yet. Right now I am focusing on my coupe...this just sort of happened. I didn't steal the car by any means, and to be honest I am more into coupes than roadsters. However, this is the first Gennie roadster I have come across that I could actually buy & I am pretty excited about it...

Well, I hate to say what I paid, it still kind of turns my stomach when I say it out loud. Lets just say that it was a little lower than the cost of a Brookville body. I may have been better off buying a Brookville, but this was the first real roadster that I have came across that I could buy & I am a little obsessive when it comes to '32's. The bad thing is, I haven't seen any roadster projects (basket case or otherwise) priced in a long time, & with the popularity & acceptance of the repro bodies I really don't know if I did alright or not. Regardless, I am happy to have it...
By the way, It looks like I'll be able to take this weekend off & I will post some more pictures if I do. I haven't been ignoring requests for more pics, I just haven't been able to get out to the garage since I brought it home.
Sam

Yes, it's rough, but it's a gennie & probably the only one I'll be able to afford any time soon. The body is pitted but fairly sound except for usual patch panels needed...the doors are toast (a shame cause one is an early style). So today, Skwurl & myself dragged her home...
That sucks you'll only be able to afford a rebuildable original 32 roadster.....LOL
