My brothers girlfriend drives a 58 Ford 300 with a 292. It has started pushing oil out of the lower breather tube in large quantities at odd times. It can go for days with relativly nothing and then back it up 10 feet and it pukes a 1/2 quart. Any advise would be appreciated.

Check the filter and the drain back hole. Or block it off and use a 60s road draft that comes out of the valley cover.

You probably are building up pressure in the crankcase so make sure the engine is ventilated well.Take that block breather off and make sure it has the metal mesh and baffles in it. Do all the above and consider adding a pcv valve.

I agree with 56don, good advice. If you google Concours Parts for 1955-1957 Thunderbird you'll see a PCV conversions setup that includes a carb spacer with tube outlet that faces to rear of engine, pcv valve and pcv hose. Then you'll need to remove the intake and replace the lifter valley cover with TBird style that has a roaddraft hole in rear of this cover (close to firewall). TBirds came with above mentioned roaddraft tube. On the 'Birds you simply remove the metal tube that attaches to this special valley cover, put the kit's rubber grommet in and install the spacer and attaching tube. FYI Y-blocks with a lot of miles puke a lot of oil as standard since they don't have PCV system. As 56don mentions passenger cars come with block breather on driver side lower block. By the way, your oil will stay cleaner longer with a pcv system because it gets all that moisture and crap out of the oil pan. Best regards. www.rtclassics.net
