Hear's an image from 1958. Hila Paulson created the "Original Lady Leadfoots" of Southern California and went wherever the jalopies were racing. The members of this group from left are: Ginger Worthham, Hila Paulson, Mary Jo Erikson (wife of famous West coast racer Rip Erikson, and finally Edna Bates (sister of Hila).

Hila married Bob Sweet and they live in the Fla Keys. In the mid 60s the pair owned a race track called Stock Island Speedway. Several times she showed the boys the fast way around the track. Keep them coming Tom. I still enjoy looking at your great book.... Bobby.

Here are more photos of Hila during the 1950s. The driver presenting Hila with a trophy is Parnelli Jones in 1953. They remain close friends to this day.

  8. Hila is still alive and well in Texas for those of you have wondered. She's still very active and shares a bit about her history every so often. She actually posted about seeing this post recently. Just thought a bump on this thread was overdue.-Weeks

  9. ......So true, guys. By all accounts Hila was a hard charger who stood her ground against some of the best drivers of the period.......Don.
