I've secured a future for my old Holden. I'm gonna do ("fix') it up, with assistance & workspace provided by my stepfather, Neil. He built the little screamer engine in this car in 1980. Look at the redback spider nest in the extractors (headers). Rat poo on the rear air cleaner too.
Super mild custom, low buck. Nosed hood. That's it for the front, maybe hood louvers. Ideas for the back end (compared with stock- 2" reset springs, Stabiliser bar, maybe tramp rods. Middle pic shows planned VW fuel door. I know this is hardly art. http://forums.fxfjholden.com/index.php

Bob, nice work, killer angle. Gary, both... and very cool stuff. Chad that is beautiful work Todd the Chevy kicks butt and is way more topic then some of the stuff I've posted... Neal, love the thumbnail but that color work is , well, drop jaw, gorgeous, man! Some of your finest work! Here's a series of sketches I've whipped out of the recesses of my dusty brain to consider for the 14th HAMB art challenge... the contender will be colored. The new year is always an exciting time as it's a good opportunity to develop some new work and explore some new techniques. Here are a couple of sketches and a mono print based around board track racer Albert "Shrimp" Burns.
![]() Albert "Shrimp" Burns (sketchbook page) ""Shrimp" Burns was one of the top dirt and board track racers of the 1910s and early '20s. The diminutive Burns rode for both the Harley-Davidson and Indian factory teams during his career. He was the youngest champion of his era, winning his first titles at the tender age of 15. " AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame ![]() "Shrimp on the home straight" (sketchbook page) ![]() "Shrimp on the home straight" (Mono print, etching ink on Bristol Board) Mono print is a technique I've been wanting to get to grips with for a while. It consists of painting directly onto a sheet of glass with an oil based etching ink. A piece of paper is then laid on top of the sheet and rubbed to press the ink onto the paper. The advantage of using glass as a printing plate is that you can place a sketch underneath it as reference as seen by the mirrored image above. www.martinsquiresautomotiveillustration.blogspot.c om |

Hello, this is my first post here. Hav'nt ever showed this to anyone but friends and family. Took me a year to build this FED. Frame is all stainless tig wire, front wheels are throwing stars, back wheels are solid pipe with valve handles in the centers. The blown injected hemi is all made of pipe fittings. I wired the correct firing order and put a vaccum cleaner belt on for the blower. The valve covers are solid steel, used a hack saw to make the fins. Headers are stainless tubing. The steering works, has gauges and steering wheel under the stainless body. Thing weighs a ton, hope you guys like. Rusty

Thanks for the nice comments, not sure what scale it is. Just built the dragster to fit the motor. Always build the motor first. The whole thing is about 2 ft. long, 8 in. wide. Probably 30 lbs. Thanks Rusty

Great show so far everyone!
Buick59, had to go get my shades with all that bling. Nice shots. Tommy's Cycle Those pistons are amazing, very nice work. Martin Squires, I love pencil sketches and board track stuff so, two thumbs up! Kismyss, Great detail and scale on that FED, Very unique. Actually got a paying gig yesterday. Do a little work for a local the local scooter builders. Put a little color on the black and silver bike. The fat tanks was a lettering job I did for them awhile back but had not seen it cleared. Sorry for the crappy pics, all I had with me was my cell phone. Oh and an old blue sparkle helmet with a weird Cap'n America vibe. LOL

Well this is the MOTEL sign I talked about last week.
Well, finally done. About 38" wide. Based on the Vagabond Motel sign in Fresno. Hope this isn't too OT. Just think of it as something Route 66ish. ![]() BR |

Hey!
Happy Friday!! Boss said he was doin' it one more time, and this time it was my turn... I begged Him and Sue to let me use this shot. Andy didn't really care for the idea of his image on the design, he's pretty low key. One of the Nicest, most humble, giving people I have ever known...this isn't A$$ kissing either. ANYBODY who has met Andy will tell you the same. I said "pleeeease Andy, let me use this...you look like a superhero, it looks like you should be wearing a cape!" He knows I am weird, and after a pause (I assume to process my nearly incoherent rambling) he says "I don't know, let me ask a few people what they think." Two days later Sue gives me the OK! I believe it was another low key Hot Rod Legend that convinced him it was okay...Thank You Roy!!! Thank you Terri for all of your help!

Love the shot of the single bike ! I am still learning photography -- so please excuse my lack of knowledge but I don't understand how you lit this shot. The sun (or light) is coming from the right (or a bit behind) causing the shadows -- yet the front side side of the bike is perfectly lit - with no shadows behind the bike. Love this style and was just wondering if you would help me understand how you did it Thanks

Mark, while I really like the first sketch, Blue Coupe ( go figure...) " Dreamer " is very very cool. I would have a hard time figuring which one to vote for John

I put this together for the pre-war competition but missed the fine print where it said it needed to be a coupe! Doh!

16"x20" acrylic on canvas. This will be for sale at the Detroit Autorama. I should also have a limited number (25-50) of prints available. Stop by and say hello if you're going to be there!

I'm having one those crazy, busy OT weeks where I'm too busy to open the mail, kiss the wife, change my shirt, check the HAMB. Then I open the FAS and dig on the entries like the kssmyss ninja star-wheeled dragster, taylorcrawford's gold and white stripes, 49 buick's wolcott relflector shot, dan greenberg's alex gambino chevy pic, lowcab's route 66 motel sign, and many others from the talent-filled regulars and newcomers and it keeps me coming back for more and wanting to be better. Bernie: You should paint your photo of the painting on the wall. Nice still life. BO

Good work guys
Here's a few from the end of last year, Barris came over the the UK for a show and was reunited with a few of his old cars. He put the masking up on the Merc to show how he would chop it. ![]() Rhythm-Riot-2011-223 by NickGrant.co.uk, on Flickr ![]() Rhythm-Riot-2011-221 by NickGrant.co.uk, on Flickr ![]() Rhythm-Riot-2011-220 by NickGrant.co.uk, on Flickr ![]() Rhythm-Riot-2011-219 by NickGrant.co.uk, on Flickr ![]() Rhythm-Riot-2011-213 by NickGrant.co.uk, on Flickr ![]() Rhythm-Riot-2011-211 by NickGrant.co.uk, on Flickr ![]() Rhythm-Riot-2011-207 by NickGrant.co.uk, on Flickr ![]() Rhythm-Riot-2011-206 by NickGrant.co.uk, on Flickr ![]() Rhythm-Riot-2011-123 by NickGrant.co.uk, on Flickr

Wow Fantastic stuff today! Jeff that artwork is just so damn inspirational!
This is a drawing of Genevieve Chappell "The Queen of Cars" We're working on a series of drawings. This the first... Here's her website: http://www.genevievechappell.com/ She's a blast to work with! If your going to the GNRS we'll be there (bldg 9), and I'll have the original of this and a few others. Hunt us down! Say howdy... ![]() "Genevieve Chappell and a 1940 Indian" 24x30 pencil on board ![]()

I've been working on muscle car stuff and doing some tractor pull designs for t-shirts so I haven't had much to post. This is lifted from a car show design I recently did. Once again there is a lot of great art being posted, 57 Corvette ~ Bob, GaryC., fortypickup, johnnyjalopy, BOMONSTER, Buick59, Tommy's Cycle, Martin Squires, kismyss, Dan Greenberg, LOWCAB, WhateverWeber, Jeff Norwell, Ed Tillrock and others! Inspirational as always.

I'm stunned every Friday visiting this post. Such great talent all. I wished I had a museum or a gallery to put it all in. What a great collection it would be.
It may have been done before, I apologize ahead of time. Have all of you ever tried to do a theme where you would pick any hot rod known or not know and do your own interpretation using all the different mediums? It'd be great to see where all the different talents would take it. Metallurgy, oils, water color, pencils, skateboard, cartoon, pinstripe, photos, Photoshop, illustration, etc. In any setting too. If it was done, can you steer me to the past thread? If not, my suggestion is the first cover of Hot Rod Magazine roadster built by Regg Schlemmer. Just a thought. Thanks for all your present and past postings fellas. Big fan of all. Chris |

Jeff N.those render]ings nearly render me speechless. The energy you've created with the technique used in the first one would send me into a seizure were I pre-disposed to being an epileptic...(no offence to those who suffer, but consider this a warning ...) Stunning detail sir!!!
ED T., That really turned out brilliantly. Youz guys inspire! Thanks to all who have taken time and said such nice things about the "Dreamer" sketch. That on came to me as a spontaneous inspiration yesterday afternoon. After working out the sketch, my 16 year old (artist) daughter,Abby, saw it and said, "That better be me in there..." Of course, she meant driving the car... So the kid, much younger, is loosely based on her. Though I plan to complete all, this one will be priority. Again, thanks to all who suggested as such. Quote:
Chris, I used this image from that same book to create this quick sketch, done in a digital format:

Here is something I finished up today. I hope you don't mind a Hot Rod of a different sort. I'll get rid of it Jeff if I'm too OT on this one. 24"X24" Acrylic on wood.

Thanks John, glad you like... It was suggested, by a friend, that I animate the drawing of the coupe and I just might, given the time... I keep looking at what I need to do to improve the car and that detail will have to come first...

Thank you for the kind comments.
I have found the French bike scene fantastic. They are into all sorts of contraptions. The best thing I've seen so far was an Anzani twin pace bike at Monthlery in 2011. |

I'm out of town for a few more weeks, but after that it's gonna be ON!
