ok, I understand why all the NASCAR/IndyCar etc guys get all the attention, but you would think that a feat like this would get more press, but nary a mention -- at least I didn't see any...462 on land with a homebuilt car...where was Time Magazine, or 60 minutes?
Still, what a feat! thanks for posting

I can't understand why Speed Channel hasn't done a series on dry lakes racing. I guess it's because the lakes have always been about the pride rather than about the money and therefore can't give Speed Channel a bunch of money to air stuff. I used to enjoy Nascarand winston, but it's gotten so far out of hand with corporate money, it's not even realistic anymore. Don't get me wrong there's some serious money out at B'ville, but the true roots of the lakes are still there. There's just so much history there, it should have a series. IMHO. I guess I"ll have to settle watching bobsledding and talent shows on Speed Channel!!!

Man, that was cool!
George Poteet is living the dream. I especially like him because he's not some stuck-up rich guy. I saw him last year at the GNRS and he was wearing regular old clothes and had a giant mustard stain on his shirt. Totally incognito and very approachable. A very cool guy. |

The Salt Flats are as real as it gets.NASCAR has become WWE on wheels.I too wish Speed Channel would do something, but I guess they're too busy pushing Meguiars and Haggerty to mess with the real stuff. |

Perfection. As much as the adrenaline builds in me while I watch this video there is this sense of "calmness" that comes over my like that guy could just as well have a cup of coffee while he is driving a freaking msisle on the land.

And nobody notices he doesn't flip his eyeshield down until 1:07 into teh run? Last gesture from the starter is shield down, then the wave off down course. No ill will but just something I have noticed in the 64 times I have watched this clip

That was awesome... so glad they didn't put a music bed on it to take away from the killer 'going fast' sounds.
Very cool that they put all the different cameras on there. -W |
