Thanks guys - blew the head gasket on my air compressor last week and had some down time waiting on parts. I threw it back together I could clean out the shop (and see what it looked like nekkid - ha)
![]() ![]() ![]() But I have some good news/bad news. The good news is I've been jonesing for another Caddy for a while, last week I struck up a deal on a '55 Coupe De Ville. The BAD news is I'll have to find the Plymouth a new home. I've been kicking around the idea of just getting it all back together and selling it in bare metal. That would get me working on the Caddy quicker but also bring me less $$$. Other options are just getting it roughed in and in primer or going the whole nine yards and finishing it out.

Ha ha, not really giving up on it, unless someone wants to step up and buy it in the raw I'll see it through to the finish. Kinda tossing paint ideas around right now. I'd planned on shiny black for myself, but I'm trying to think what color might make for a better sale. Got one of the fenders patched. Looked like there were some different tail lights in there at one point. Cut out brass, bondo, duraglass, and a big hunk of thick metal for a patch. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Still needs some more hammer and dolly work but much better than before.

damn Gator ... I luv that Plymouth! Would look great in my shop ... My 51 is still having the interior put in ... I sold it and trying to get it put back together for delivery. You know me ... everything has a price ... maybe should have priced it higher! The 33 is looking good. and congrats on the Caddy! Give me a call when you can.

Slow going lately - got the front fender patched, I think this was where it originally bolted to the frame. Instead of cutting out a patch someone just cut out a larger patch and welded it behind the hole, pounded it down and filled it with 3/4 of an inch of bondo. Same method was used on the other fender and the patches on the rear fender where the tail lights were changed at some point. It's a shame since the rest of the fender (and most of the body for that matter) are relatively rust and damage free. ![]() Backside: ![]() Triple thickness!!! ![]()

Still at it, kinda slow going with the holidays and all, but now I'm ready to get my ass back in gear.
The hinges had been cut off the car at some point, mounts and all. When I got the car the hood sides were bolted in place and the hood top was being held down with velcro. I fabbed up some brackets and used small bearclaw latches to get by for the summer, but I wanted the hood hinged so I had to improvise. I needed to be able to seperate the hood for paint so I mad the hinges removable. First I welded in some flat stock to the hood tops so I'd have somewhere sturdy to attach the stainless piano hinges to. ![]() Laid out the hinge to mark the mounting holes. ![]() ![]() Then attached the tops to the sides. The hood sides look to have been custom made, they're pretty heavy and luckily they had a 90 lip at the top perfect to mount the hinges to. ![]() After I lined it all up I tore it all right back apart. Hoping to get out to Hamber "EarlSchieb" - Mike's shop at the end of the week for some help getting all the body parts in primer. I need to decide what color we're gonna paint it; I was going shiny black, but since the car is now going to be sold when it's finished I'm trying to decide what color would have the most 'resale' appeal. Mike suggested a metallic dark red / maroon. Any other opinions?

I was ready to answer your question before I even completed reading your post.
Mike is right on target. But you might consider a maroon/burghandy WITHOUT metallic. That would be more "nostalgic". just don't let Mike talk you into a set of those big gay wheels he likes so much. now get your ass back to work

Ha ha - Thanks Bob - I think I'll take your advice, you'll probably end up buying the car anyways...
I checked out the 'maroon cars' thread here on the Hamb, really liking this color:
