I picked this up at an estate sale today. I know they are repopped but all the reproduction ones I have seen are aluminum. This one is cast iron and looks to be original Does anyone know if they ever repopped iron ones and if so can they be distinguished from an original? The white on this is yellowed some so I am leaning toward original. Thanks for the help in advance.
most of the cast iron repop stuff is poorly cast and looks like crap, then rusted to look old. looks real to me.
Well did a little research and the conceses is that these were never a Texaco item. So I guess it is a fantasy piece but an early one (20-25 years ago) newer ones are aluminum. Still worth what I gave for it though. Just won't be able to sell it and retire. lol This is my favorite quote from the forums I looked at. "A Genuine Texaco doorstop looks like a rubber or wooden wedge, or a brake rotor, or a brick, or a tin of nuts and bolts or a gallon of AntiFreeze..etc..etc.."
They beat me to it! Never was made originally by Texaco. I bought one at a Coca Cola collector's club convention in the 90's and painted it and detailed it real nice. The reg. TM letters did look like shit, though!
