After Friday's ramble on gauges, I was sent a link to an archaic webpage full of steering wheel watches. Now, I've seen steering wheel watches before... They are one of those accessories that you typically see on some old fart's car at a local car sh...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
Oh man those are great! Unlike a lot of accessories from days past they look beautiful and are functional without being nerdy like curb feelers.
Actually, scratch that..A full floating tach or it that is to big and obnoxious,... a floating fuel gauge would and could be elegant and functional. This most likely has already been done a some point.....
interesting.. this is MY picture.. on the Roadkill website.. HUMM... i've sold all but one.. which is a repro (by me) and is going in this..
these are cool.. id have to have a coup to show it off if i owned one.. but, man trying to tell what time it is while taking a sharp S turn. heh chris. P.S the vw banjo wheel would look great in a T. heh.. the clock is almost the size of the damn speedo. hah, should be easy to tell time i guess with that large of a clock.
need to make a iphone horn button. that way you could have a clock, gps, speedo, ipod, and dont forget the HAMB app. right in the middle of the steering wheel. -danny
Yeah, that's a page on one of my sites! I have been into these for many years along with lots of other weird stuff for cars. I also have a couple Youtube videos about the clocks that are linked on the page. Don't have any in my cars yet but I am holding back one NOS Benrus first series clocks for my Desoto UTE. I am down to about 6 of them and yes they are very pricey! I asked you about a year ago if I could use it on my clocks page when you (or maybe it was someone else?) posted it on the rare parts thread. I will take it down if you like! I would figure that the one that is made for the banjo steering wheels would be the most popular with this crowd? It also can be mounted with a clamp. This clock wound with rotation of the steering wheel and acceleration and braking. The video on Youtube shows the winding mechanism. It came out in the early 50s and was an aftermarket accessory.
You KNOW Flava has one... Seems like you'd have to make a lot of turns to have the self winders work.
I don't get around much, but the Olds is the only kind I have ever seen the others are just amazing. God I love the gadgets almost as much as our junkie Ryan does. Very cool, really loved seeing these. ~sololobo~
Not a steering wheel clock but an earlier period aftermarket mirror clock. It was NOS still in the box so it still works if I wind it. I set it and wind it before leaving for the shows.
A friend of mine is a watch collector/trader. He found this Waltham at a large watch show. He called it a "car watch." The back case as a long stud which allows it to be mounted to the dash. It is hand wound and runs for 8 days.
