    Not really new but new to me. Got a 350 short block from a friend, domed pistons, mostly stock bottom end. Bearings and pistons look good. I put the Dart heads, Dart intake, Comp cam (5.25 lift) etc. from my expired 406 (spun main). Replacing the mild 406 that I have been running at 12.0 sec. lately. The Great Lakes Gassers have a Gasser Shootout Sat. 7-30-11 at Milan Dragway, will try it then.

    Gotta love the engine swaps! I have a 415"small block Dodge in my 61 Falcon gasser.

    How rowdy was the old motor?- may not be too much a of a decrease in performance.

    Looks good! We need some more vids of your car...

    Well It didn't do very well. The launch was very lazy (2 sec. 60 ft.) and slower 13 sec. ET. Won the first round when Tim (beautiful 41 Willys) pulled the shift knob off in second gear. Lost second round.
    I have some different possibilities for the bad launch, trying to pull a 3.50 gear with 30" tires may be too much for a 350 cube small block with 5.25" lift cam?
    Possibly bad adjustment of hyd. lifters? (will look into that) Too much carb (850 double pumper) I have a 750 vac. secondary to try. And I got a 4.88 R&P from my neighbor. The good news is the short block seemed fine.
    Hope to get it all sorted out for the next Gasser Shootout Aug. 20 @ Milan.

  14. I'm pretty damn sure those dome pistons you show are 327.......NOT 350

    Re checked valve lash, looks ok. Installed 750 Vac. secondary. Sounds good, have to go to my secret test track.

  17. Couldn't agree more!:cool:
    Seems theres far to much new school of thought of same engine brand in same car these days.

    This looks like a very fun car.
    Hope your getting it dialed in how you want it.

  18. I'm pretty sure you have a 327-they share the same 4" bore as a 350, but has 3 1/4 stroke instead of 3.48. That piston dome you show is pretty typical 327. The dome on a 350 piston goes much closer to the edges

    Got me wondering now. I thought the 327 was smaller bore, never measured stroke, was told it was 350. looking at casting #8870010. Cant find it in MorTec listing. Stamped #V1204TJY (or TOY). If it is 327 might explain inability to pull tall gear and tires.

    Casting number would be 3970010 350 block.

    V1204TJY
    V=Flint
    12= Month
    04= Day
    TJY= 1973 350 Truck C-10 to 2500

  23. In the 70's, when I was a kid, I thought "010" blocks were 4 bolt main 350's. My machinist and friend for a bazzilion years said 010 only means 4" bore. Either way...327 and 350 are BOTH 4" bore. I can assure you of that. And, to repeat myself..the domes you show are very distinctive to the 327. 350 domes go way closer to the edge

  24. That's the weird part. I do agree that suffix (TJY) consisting of THREE characters rather than two started around 1970...way after the 327. BUT, it's those pistons that have me sure you have 327 guts in that block

    A quick test run for the smaller carb. and the launch is still lazy. So I pulled the pig for a change of gears, 3.50 to 4.86.

    Been a while since I updated this thread. Finally got the "new" combo sorted out. 4.86 gears, and a different 750 DP Holley and it launches much better. 1.57 best 60 ft. time and 11.57 best ET @ 113 mph. Reving to 7000 limit. Competed at 2 Gasser Shootout events at Milan Mi. Next meet June 30.
