Coming from a time when customs were becoming increasingly gaudy and ridiculous, that one really stands out as clean, understated, well thought-out and fucking EVIL.

My favorite custom of all time. I like everything about it. My 57 chrysler is being influenced by this car.

On my "SHORT" list of customs with real style.

A custom from the era of show cars that was built for style and presence, not show points. It has always been my favorite custom.

what makes it so cool for me, is that there is almost very little variance on the original concept laid down by Enxer. What has been accomplished is the elimnation of all visual discraction, thus arriving at the unfettered flowing form underneath.

I've always thought this car was just amazing! It's the only custom Forward Look Mopar I can think of that looks great minus the original side trim. Interesting the way the chop and lowering seem to combine to give the illusion that it's been sectioned.

  11. fantm58, your car is neater'n hell! Rarer than hardtops these days and rare back in the day. Chopped or not chopped it's killer.

  12. Darth Vaders custom....

  13. @Jive-Bomber - The Clif Inman / Joe Wilhelm '57 Chrysler is one of my all-time favorites ... but then again, I might be just a tad bit biased ;)

HAMBers - If you just like to look at pics, then checkout my The Inman '57 Chrysler Custom photo album.

This has always been one of my favorite customs of all time, I'd pay almost anything to see it in person. It's one of the reasons why I haven't scalloped or striped my '60, as much as I like the Watson style.

It's mentioned Inman's career in Computers, is he still interested in cars?

Virgil Exner cars have always struck me as having some really nice design elements that are then overshadowed by just a bit too many nifty touches that then clutter up the car so you have trouble seeing the great part of the design.

To me, the Inman car shows just how great his designs would have been with just a little less excess.

And the fact that this custom came around at a time when the custom world was all about excess, makes it even more powerful of a statement.

I would say it made a great "end" to the radical custom era. About the time this car came out, Watson's "Crazy" paint was making semi/mild customs stand out much more, with far less metal work. Even with all the radical metal work, I bet this car got overlooked alot because it didn't have wald paint/stripes. It was a simple 1 color black....although VERY straight black!!!!

I remember drooling over that car in the early 70's when it was featured in a Peterson Publishing book about Chrysler products. I'm glad to learn that it's still around, too bad it dosen't get out much...

  26. I'm not a restorer by any means but your Dodge is so rare I think I'd resist the temptation to cut the top.

  27. Those are fantastic.....thanks for sharing.

It's good to know that even at the time this car was found, it's significance was recognized. Too many great customs were left to rot during those dark days...

Anybody know what other cars the current owner (William McEuen) has?
I think he has some other well known customs too.
