I don't post too much about my one and only nephew Alex. He's 18, just graduating from a very prestigious all boys high school and has been accepted to the University of Michigan. He's a very good kid. So anyway, his senior prom was last weekend and he asked if they could use the Oldsmobiles for backdrops in their photos.
We cruz to his date's home. Her and her whole family including Grandparents were there and very excited to see the cars. ![]() Tessa asked to sit in the drivers seat.....car gal in the making for sure ![]() The plan was for them to travel in the back seat of the '56 to my hood for more photos. Tessa wasn't having any of that, she wanted to ride in the convertible! Hair be damned Once in my neighboorhood we took more photos ![]() ![]() ![]()

My favorite
![]() Second favorite ![]() ![]() They were certainly having fun ![]() ![]() Shhh, don't tell Grundy I let him drive Big Olds. First time ever and last time for at least 7 years. Dad and I followed in the '56 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() They are both great kids and I'm glad I was able to give them a more unique prom experience as they were the only ones that arrived in a classic car that night. ![]() So, anyone else have any prom photos with classic cars to share?

That smile sure is familiar... He's got the coolest aunt ever. It's great to let these old cars keep making history. Way to go.

They, and the cars, look great! What a good experience, and I'm sure cruising to prom in the convertible sure set the evening off right. You're a pretty cool aunt!
Just wish my prom was worth remembering...

My Brats prom from last year.
![]() We were tearing down the spare motor for her car and saw my shop landlord and his son were cleaning and primping the car. They told us that he was taking to his prom that night and that he didnt have a date. This was @ 3:30-4:00, pretty soon the landlord comes over and says would you be mad if Corey asked her to go with him. I look over and shes got grease and oil under fingernails and black spots all over. Hmmmm, yeah that'd be fine with me, I know he's a good kid cause you havent killed him, yet. So Corey comes over and we conversate for a few minutes and then I leave so he can ask her then I ask what time do this affair kick off. Well we wanna meet for supper around 6,,, oh oh boy! Luckily she had a dress from her homecoming. Got her home, cleaned up and off to the prom in fine fashion and on time even. btw, shes 6'1" in those heels, and he's 6'3" another buddy of mine saw the pic and says damn, those 2 are tall enough they lowered the car!

My prom date and I left our prom early so that we could go to a car show. I had her home by midnight and her dad swears she cried all night!

Hey, I'm just down the highway from you a bit, and I'm straight as an arrow, but if she's lending you Big Olds, can I be your date? ...

No pictures and not exactly my story, but in about '69 my dad borrowed the family car (1926 Model T Touring) to take to his prom. I have to tell his stories once in a while because they're cool and he's too antisocial to tell anyone but us. The stipulation was that his dad made him paint it first. My dad still has the T to this day.

I went to my prom in my Dad's '63 Thunderbird with a lovely girl named Penny. We looked pretty damn good, if I say so myself! I do have a pic somewhere that I will have to scan.
Of course, her and I went to the drive-in movie the night prior to see the movie "Carrie" (the Sissy Spacek version), so that made the whole weekend that much more fun!

Over here in England we have only recently got into the whole prom thing, and to be honest mostly it's stretch limos and Rolls-Royces. However, we managed to do a little better for my son Danny and his prom date Sammi back in 2009;

Can't find a picture, but my dad was between "Rods" and my car was in the high school body shop so I thought I was going to have to take a family car to prom. About 2 weeks before prom dad said he had something better. One of Dad's friends loaned him a 1937 Pontiac to drive us to prom in! The car was great (a/c, plush interior, detailed to the tee, and a backseat bigger than a limo's!) Dad dressed in a suit, drove us to dinner, opened the doors, and took us to the prom. The car was way cooler than any limo and drew a bigger crowd than the prom itself! I'll never forget what Dad and his buddy pulled off for me!
By the way, I did have another car waiting for after prom. There was no way dad was "ending" prom with me no matter what car he drove! LOL |

This thread brings back fond memories of my high school car. I had a 72 RS Z-28 with a 4 speed. Fun car – wish I still had it.
When I went to prom it was not yet a classic, but it was still a bad ass car. Here's a pic of me getting ready to go pick up my date. And, uhhh, no, that's not a cooler full of beer that I'm putting in the back seat. That would be illegal, now wouldn't it? Good times.

Thanks to everyone for all the kind words and for sharing your prom stories and photos. I've really enjoyed reading them.
He wants an old shop truck and since we really need a truck to haul stuff in the family I think its a good idea. Well see.

Pretty cool Denise. 14 years ago, my friend and I took our dates to Prom in his Dad's big block powered '34 Ford Sedan. The only problem was he put a hole in the oil pan pulling out of a driveway and we seized the engine about two blocks from the dance. We had to walk in the rain, then load the car on a flatbed in our tuxes once help arrved.

I drove my daughter and her date to their 9th grade rec. several years ago. Many of the parents rented the limos for their kids. When we pulled up in the '58 Impala that's in my avatar, most of the photagraphers forgot about taking pictures of the couples as they exited the limos and came right over to photograph me letting the kids out of the Impala.
Very memorable night for my daughter. Priceless for me. I'll see if I can find some photos and scan them up. Brian

I'm going to mention to him how many friends made a comment on his nice smile maybe that will help.

Very cool Denise! Brings back some great memories for me, not just of prom, but of being 16/17 years old and cruising around in an old car. Good times for sure!
I picked up my '57 the day of my senior prom, though I didn't take it to prom. We had a stretch Navigator limo, which was cool to party with friends in!

I had to chime in and add a ditto to the comments on the smile and resemblance. I swear, if I saw Alex walking down the street before seeing these pics, the first thing to come to mind would have been... "hey! you must be related to Denise!"
Great Pics! |

I had the privilege of driving a young couple to their prom last year. What a hoot...for all of us! The amount of attention they got at the dance when they de-car-ed amid a field of ho-hum white stretch Hummers was incredible! A neat evening!
![]() Neat people!

That is extra cool. They will remember that forever. Plus, it's great to see some teens who are "squared away" and have a good future.

If you want to see a prom car show then Nevada, MO is it. Tradition has kids riding in anything different or cool and half the town sitting in bleachers to watch. They even throw out a red carpet. Lots of different...combines? forklifts, scooters. Lots of cool...harleys, street rods, hot rods, muscle cars and trucks. The following year we took one of my trucks (and got voted king and queen
). Alot of us drove muscle cars and old trucks daily, I think that was toward the end of those times. Sadly you don't see real cars in high school lots anymore. The first pic is me and Mrs. Leevon in 1997, we had a fight and broke up right there in line to the red carpet, sitting in her neighbor's 56 belair, then got out and put on those smiles. The next year we were back on... now going on 10 years of marriage and 2 kiddos. Haha we thought we knew everything! Last edited by Leevon; 05-20-2011 at 03:11 PM. |

Awesome Olds's and pictures!!
My first prom I drove my Dads thunderbird. Second prom I was going to drive another car of my Dads but it poured rain right before I left that night and he said he didnt want me driving it in the rain, so I had to drive my parents minivan. Good thing my date bailed on me a few days before!!

I got turned down by a couple girls who were waiting for better offers, so I decided to skip the whole mess. One of my dads friends heard I wasn't going and why, he insisted I take his K-5 Blazer and matching Sanger to Crescent Bar Resort and tear up the lake for the weekend. Best "dateless" weekend I ever had.
You can damn well bet our son will have something cool to drive to the prom and for that matter any of the neighborhood kids.... old cars were made to be driven, enjoyed and nothing I have will ever be too nice to be used/abused. |

sadly,no pic's on the pc to post, but a few years ago i drove my son and his date to prom in my bosses 1941 woodie wagon [ claims the car was owned by tyrone powers [sp?] ].
they had a 'procession' at the high school before actual prom, the driveway at school is semi-circular, as we pulled into a sea of limo's [all parked along the semi circle, with a space in front of the school vacant], a few limo drivers stepped out and flagged us forward. we were able to by-pass all the kids getting out of limo's way back in the parking lot, to end up parked right in front of the school doors so everyone could see the kids exit the woodie, kids thought it was the coolest thing. after that, i drove them to the prom, photographer at the prom almost killed himself trying to get in a good position to take pic's of the woodie and the kids getting out of it, was really a cool deal. |

I love the cars and the kids! That's just great! All of them would've been mocked where I went to school though!

Some really great pics here! One of the best things about cars are the people that come along with them. These are some great car memories for these lucky guys and gals!

There was a guy at the high school in a neigboring town, whose Dad owned several cabover Peterbilts. Guess what he drove to the prom? Yup, plus his GF at that time, wanted to get into OTR trucking, so she was pretty impressed with the deal.
No, he didn't take one with a sleeper! His Dad (and hers!) insisted he was driving one of the daycabs, if he were to go to prom with a truck!

Like the thread!
The school I work part-time at just had their prom last weekend . . . didn't see anything except limos/hummers ![]() I'll have to dig up some pictures . . . I remember what year it was by the mods done to my '66 falcon. Junior year = stock, Senior Year = weld pro star wheels, After senior year (dated a girl a year younger than me) = 5 speed.
