Default 1941 ford frame, same as 42-48 ?????

Location: Norcal   Price: tbd
I have a WTB post for a 1941 ford passenger car frame. One potential seller has a 42-48 frame, he believes the 42-48 frames is the same dimensions as the 41. He lives too far for me to consider buying his frame, however, I was under the impression the 41 frame was a one year only. Are they interchangeable??
Thanks, Gary

Hey Gary, I got my '41 from an 81 year old hot rodder who knows more about these cars than I'll ever know. I'll ask him and find out. Usually it's just a matter of riveted on brackets. The front cross member may be a bit different, but can be modified. I'll let you know.

I've done several 41 repro chassis using rails from a rail fabricator that claims they fit 41/48. I used the dimensions from a 46 chassis I have out back. I have so far had no negative feed back as I always tell the buyer that some brackets may have to be used from the original frame. I use Heidts Superride on the front and have done the rear with leafs or coilovers and straight 4 bar.

If memory (?) serves me right the '41 is narrower on the front end than the '42 to '48. When i bought the Heidts front end I used the '40 member so the tires didn''t stick out to far. The Green Book shows some of the differences. The mounting of the rear running board brackets and the radiator brackets are just a couple of the differences. Good Luck in your search!

When I first started on the car, the frame was butchered up. I ended up buying a Sedan project, took the frame and parted the rest out. At least you know that it's straight when you start.

Would the only difference be body mounty locations?

As I recall (?) the '41 was a narrower body than the '42 to '48. Could be wrong on this one? I could find frame dimensions for the '40 and the '42 but not the '41. I have seen a '41 front clip on a '48 at one time. Not sure what was required to pull this off.

chassis enginerring's catalog use to show the difference, like there is a early and late frame. i think the main difference is the center of the x member. one is rivited and one is welded. i think the body mounts changed alittle too.

I have a 41 short door coupe body that I sat on a '47 frame, my body was pretty bad, and had to replace all the lower sections anyway, so I just copied a '48 rockers and body mounts and it worked fine. I also used the '47 doghouse and everything lined right up, so I'd say they are the same width, biggest difference I saw were the X and the running boards and mounts ('41 is a one year only on the running board, but '42-48 boards can be modified to use.
