I thought I'd post an update on the coupster. Here is a previous thread I started here http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=335443&showall=1 I'm pumped!! I dropped my own '32 heavy axle and reversed the front spring eye. On the rear I used a '57 Ford 9", some Morison ladder bars I had laying around and an A spring. Now I'm getting ready to do engine mounts.
You steered the front tires and rims. I'm sure you also helped burn off the rear tires, but the back rims off Dad's model a went with my '59 Chevy.
Nope - not me. I only drove that Model A 55 mph. I would still like to find that A and buy it. I had almost as much fun in it as you did
I got the engine and trans mounts done this weekend. The trans mount I made to match the Hurst engine mount. I could have added a little bulk to the trans mount, but I plan on trimming the engine mount. It's oversized to fit a big block which I don't plan on putting in this car. Steering is next..... I have an f-100 gear but I don't like the angle of the drag link with the dropped axle. I may do a cowl steering.
You should consider bellhousing mounts with a front engine mount.. Lots of room between mounts.........
You know I thought about running mounts right off the scatersheild. I shouldn't need a mount at the rear of the trans then right?
I would still run one at the rear of the trans to stop vibration and possible cracking around the tailshaft. I'm building a stockish 51 chevy pickup at work right now and it uses a front engine mount, bellhousing mounts, and a tailshaft mount right where the torque tube attaches. Maybe it's over engineered, but the original trans was overhauled and did not have any signs of cracks in it after over 50 years of abuse as a farm truck.
Looking good, did this start life as a hard top car or a sport coupe? I like what you did with the belt line.
It was a regular coupe until some farm boys used there axe to make it into a roadster. Thanks for the good comments. I ran a muncie in a '59 Chevy with no rear mount with a bigblock and didn't have any problems. I'm going to wait until I have the pedals mounted before I change anything.
