old steel strapping with paint ground off the ends

edit.......the steel strapping is ok but 18g works even better because it is easier to weld on.

thanks guys. it works great because the steel strap is flexible you can pull in different directions ........ the tabs get better as you reuse them...the ends get thicker and the better material from the welding wire makes them easier to tack...cheers

    I like it.
I've had a vice grip attachment for my slide hammer for a while but never put 2 and 2 together.
    Thanks for the tip.

Nice home made tool. Good to hear you're still alive G. Still living in Ender-bush?

  13. great idea, I got a trunklid that needs that work done to it.
PS,..that banding also makes great gastank straps, fold the ends over so it's double where the bolts go thru, but don't smash the fold real tight as then they tend to snap at the fold, defeating the purpose.

I guess that is the poor mans spot welder , then use the slide hammer dent puller ? Same thing but a hell of a lit cheaper to use !
I will keep that one in my section of my brain for car repairs !
    Thanks for the tip !

You can also use a nail to weld to the dented panel. They usually release by bending the nail toward the tack weld. If not a cutoff wheel will make a surgical release possible.

I'll be damned. And I used to go around filling my cars full of holes to pull with screws.

Perfect tech, thanks a bunch for sharing. This comes at a perfect time because I have a door with a crease a mile long and I was totally not looking forward to drilling a zillion holes in it.

Beats drilling holes and welding them shut after!

  25. You can scrounge the banding from the lumber department at stores like Home Depot. They cut it off when they open a new bundle of boards and it just accumulates behind the piles.

Good to hear all is well, hope to see you at some shows or races this year.

Check this out, I was actually using the old screw/slide hammer yesterday for fixing one of my doors but I think today I'll actually use your (now my) new tool. I;ll post some pics of the results.

My new project is beyond retarded. Check it out.

I can't believe you're doing that '64 Dodge wagon. That's the car i drove to high school, and always thought about a two door version, it's like you've been in my head. I know I'll never do it so i can live vicariously through your blog; I subscribed, carry on!!!!
