Default another frame swap question

i just got a 47 dodge 5 window coupe,and need advice on a frame swap,i know i can use long bed dakota frames as well as s 10 frames.my friend got a 89 camaro thats willing to "donate" will this year work fine because i was told that 79 was latest it will work, thanks any advice or help will really be apprecieted

yeah thats what i heard, will i have that problem if cut the front clip (if it works with the 89 camaro)and weld it to the dodge frame?

I don't see a reason why you would'nt want to do that... Width and and wheel base is all ya gotta worry about. Well that and the location of the steering gear box

not even close. it is not anything like a 2nd gen camaro and uses struts. what direction do you want to go with this build? there are options that are less work.

cool, so for now my best option is to used a s 10 frame, i been looking for one but they just hard to come by as parts trucks, thats why i was thinking on using my friends maro,but thats just to much unnessary work i guess, you guys now any links to past tech advise with piuctures, thanks

Whats wrong with the frame that belongs to the car? If its intact and not bent or rotted away, you can upgrade the brakes and add a rack & pinion steering pretty easy. Its a lot easier to bolt stuff on then it is to hack up the frame. Gene

The original frame has independent suspension way beefier than an S10 and all it needs is a shock relocation kit and a bigger sway bar, plus a disk brake upgrade. No cutting required.

And if you feel you still want a clip go with a dodge dakota, it's perfect for your application........are you putting in a sbc? That is the only reason for using an S10 clip I can think of.

yeah, i got a sbc,and auto trans thats going into it,thats why i was thinking of an up grade to disk brakes and power steering.What year dakota can i use,also the frame i got is bent and i got it with no rear end.

An S10 is too hard to find for parts? Are you kidding? You can't swing a dead cat and not hit an old S10 pickup around here. Unless your frame is rusted, smashed, or missing, your "...best option..." would be rebuild the brakes and suspension of the frame the body is sitting on. These drive nice, have reasonably good brakes, and best of all, they fit the body.

Where did the idea that an S10 pickup frame swap come from anyway? You'll have to modify the floor (if there's any left in your car), build body mounts, shorten or lengthen the frame, and then you still have to fabricate engine mounts, trnas mounts, and so forth.

I never get these frame swaps... for the time it takes a person to rework an entire car and a random mini truck chasis they could have easily found a factory frame, upgraded it a bit and slid it under...

With all the aftermarket upgrades available why not use the factory frame? how bent is your frame? I'd think a competent frame/alignment shop could straighten it...

Plus if you decide to sell the car later.. I'd think a car on it's original frame, instead of some cobbled swap job would be worth a bit more...

Why not just put your sbc in the camaro and drive that??

it is still easier to straighten a frame than swap one. bolting a rear to leaf springs is still easier than a frame swap. this is one of those times to step back and look at the overall picture.

Its a good time to step away from the computer and pick up a wrench.

That said I did slide an S-10 chassis under a '53 F-100. I had the chassis and got the F-100 sans chassis. But in retrospect it would have been a better choice to build a chassis for the ford than to use the S-10 chassis.
