Hard to believe that shot of the cockpit is that of a T-Bird. They really gutted that thing pretty good huh? Any how, it looks menacing and I'm loving these early factory experimentals lately. I'm sure something will come up in the way of pics. What about that thread concerning all of Fords pics being up for sale and open to view on line? I'll take a look.
I wonder why the restored car has a much higher ride height? It looks so much cooler at the lower height in the the older pictures. Cheers, Stewart.
There was a series of articles on them in the Early Birds publication (the CTCI mag), about the history and one that is/was being restored.
I can't imagine what a 430 Lincoln mill would be like in a T-bird. How the heel would you squeeze it in there to begin with? I also gotta dig the header routing on the little 312. Unique to say the least. .
Those T-Birds looked very race-like. They should have made some production versions. Probably way to much money.
I have nothing to add about the battle birds but - OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Love them! 430 MEL motor would be a tight fit in a bird, but I have personally driven one with 413 or 426 Chrysler (which ever was the "Max Wedge", I can't remeber this morning...) and four speed combo stuffed into it. The guy still drives it around town in the winter months almost every day - and my involvement was almost thirty years ago.
I find it odd that with all the "aero" mods on the body, molded bumper, cockpit cover, small windshield, ETC, that the trunklid hold downs are at right angle to the air flow. They could have been moved to the rear panel and out of the flow of air. Small item I know but it just seems to be in stark contrast to the rest of the effort. Scrump.
