History Well this has got to be a Record "One owner driven 82 Years!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by wingnutz, Dec 14, 2010.

  1. Wow......

    1 a rolls royce.jpg

Mr. Allen Swift (Springfield , MA.) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P1 Roadster from his father, brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928.

He drove it up until his death last year.....at the age of 102 !!!

He was the oldest living owner of a car from new. Just thought you'd like to see it.

He donated it to a Springfield museum after his death.

It has 170,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch,

dead silent at any speed and is in perfect cosmetic condition. (82 years)

That's approximately 2000 miles per year...

Just thought you would find this of interest.

There was an other old guy from Massachusetts who came to the ty-rods show a few years back with an early model t (i think) touring car. It was his first car, he bought it "slightly used" and had it since...aound 75-80 years! His son was driving him in it to that show.

thats a cool story. That must have been a hell of a car for him to keep it that long as his daily driver or he must have been a penny pincher. Either way I think that is cool and the size of that thing is crazy!

  20. Great story.

If I had known thats what you got for graduating, I would have studied harder!

The longest I've owned a vehicle would be about 15 years, Bought it from a (future) hamber.
46ish stude m5 truck. It still looks the same except for maybe more rust.

Very nice story, very natty looking gentelman, and his car is a stunner. I am so humbled by folks that can hang on to things and take such great care of them. Things self distruct in my posession after a short time. Thanx for sharing this cool event. ~sololobo~

I think RR was built in the USA for a time as well as England. I think it was Springfield. If so that car never left town.
