Sounds good on the first start. Needs a little tuning as you said, but you are on your way.
![]() hope you don't mind but I thought you needed the player installed.

Talked to Roger today, and we desided to make a new spool for the barrel valve. Hope this will do the trick
!?Next is to book Dyno/roller to try to tune it for max HP. The last thing we did was to give the killer some more air, we put on the BIG wheel on the crank !Br Kjell ......................... Sidewinder........... Last edited by fenderless; 07-06-2012 at 05:44 PM. |

First of all my thoughts go to all victims, families and residents of the in Colorado. Resent you had the big fires, and now the shooting, very tragic.
We have had a few days to ponder on our engine test. Bored&stroked gave me some valuebal innformation prior to the dyno test. Alot of thought have gone through my head: First pull gave us way rich AFR, OK, lets lean it out. Second run a litle better, now killing a sparkplug, too wet, and one melted down ! the wet plugs where the 4 cylinders in the middle. the 4 on the corners are ok. AFR showed still rich.Thired run, even better. Rethinking, going through the pills and mapping them. As we have made a new spool, we desided to lean it down to 20%. Now the engine start really responding, butt still not good abowe 3000rpm We continued leaning with baby stepps, just to make shure we did not hurt enything. I think we got to the 7th pull, when the engine got better and better, it made a big "popp" on full load. Ops! to lean !After that we got a noise comeing from the bottom end ! Not good!We concluded that we had learned alot, but was still way off our target !After a short dinner, we desided to get the dragster back to the shop, and tear the pan off, we really needed to find out what was causing the noise. Roger was really quiet and i think nervous too !We was really happy that the crank and rods looked ok, the problem was a loos flexplate ! I know i torqued it twice ! Why? well we need to pull the engine out to find that out.The other problem need also to be looked at, why it did not perform!? Well we thing that the blower needs to be checked, as it just managed to push 5 psi of boost. At full load the engine sounded like it was surgeing for air!!? Knowing it might be a worn out blower, I have started looking for a new one. Oh, figures, the killer just gave us 200hp at 2000rpm's with almost no boost! The saga continues........ Kjell before getting new blower did you try any different pulley combo's? may not be spinning fast enough. what were your torque figs?
Glad it was just a bolt issue.........

Well Kejll a loose flywheel bolt is a hell of a lot better than a lose rod bolt, well sorta going down the track it could be a really bad deal, Good luck Tim Jones

The bolt issue looks like a easy fix The pullys we use is 25% over, so if my figuers are right it's gona give approx. 15psi?We took out the blower, and we found out that I had used too thick a gasket, so to much clearence on the rotors ! Also leaking pop-off. We took the bloower appart and put it togheter to today, so hope everything will go back this week ![]() A new smaller top pully should also help, maybe a one that could give us 35%!? Kjell you just using a pop off and not a burst plate? the 25% od will give you somewheres around 13 or so depending on your CI and how much backpressure you have on the exhaust side and cam timing all play a part in the final numbers thats the fun of it .......playing!!! Just make sure you go in small steps to keep out of detonation.......

Thanks
![]() Yes we just have pop-off, that funny thing at the back of the inntake, pointing nicely towards my head ! There was not enough space for a burstplate. Next uppgrade will be a new inntake with port nozzles. We was thinking of making it with all runners towards the middle, so we probably will get more even mixture. As our current intake, it tends to get too rich in the middle cylinders, and leaner on number 1,4,5,8. We have also desided to just use our current set-up 25%, and upprade with newer style belt set-up, and gear for 45-50% to get us up to 20+ psi. When i mailed my specs to Hilborn, they sent me four 61A nozzles, are they to large? Kjell .............................. Taildragger&fenderless Last edited by fenderless; 07-31-2012 at 05:19 PM. |

Finally got everything back together, we had the engine out to fix the flexplate.
We changed the bolts with new that does not have threads all the way up, and more locktite. hope it will not come loose again !As we had the engine out, we checked the bearings, and everything looked OK ! Now it's just to load her up and try out our luck next race![]() K ............................ Taildragger&fenderless |
