Ha ha ha... Regarding the wheel, my first thought was Model T but with the studs through every other spoke, as well as every other spoke being a different diameter we know it's NOT a T. At least we have a good idea of the era!
I'm a fish biologist. I work in the Yakima River, which had a good deal of logging and mining upstream back in the day. This was unusual though, I usually just find deflated rafts and the occational broken fishing rod
Whatever it was, was -stout-. Eight hub bolts, then every other spoke bolted through to the 'inner hub piece'. Teens and Twenties trucks might be a place to start.
Any other guesses? I've been looking at big trucks of the 20's and even a few tractors, but havent been able to nail it down yet.
That might be a winner...the big hub looks right spokes look a little different though. The unknown wheel has a taper in the evey other spoke where it looks like the dodges (from the photos I've found) are all uniform in shape.
It's not too clear of a picture but my grampa's and this picture I found online of a 24 Dodge Brothers rear; every other spoke has that 'dog knob' where the bolt connected the spokes to the brake drum.
yup, I think you're right. Thanks a bunch for solving the mystery. No good reason to know I guess, it was just driving me nuts the only thing I could come up with was a Stoddard Dayton town car (whatever that was), which had a similar 'dog knob' but only seven hub bolts:
