People send me vintage footage all of the time. Ripping this footage and uploading it to our servers takes a big time commitment, so I stack the footage I get and put sticky notes on each one that includes the source and information about the clip. Having some technical issues today... as such, you guys get the rough version of the flick in this post. Later, I'll upload the finished cut with music and all that. Sorry for the issue.
Just wow! That is some great footage and the color is very good. The beach party sure makes ya' wish for the carefree 60's again. Can't wait to see more and thanks to whoever turned this up and shared it.
KILLER. Gotta love it. Love the beach party and opening beer with a church key! Thanks Doug and Ryan. Slim
Actually, I got that DVD from Rod McCarrell, a veteran jr. fuel dragster guy from way back who's still very active.
Me three! Thanks Mr. McCarrell ... Mr. Hayes ... and that "Cochrane kid with a website" too! That cool "golden age" footage from the '64 Winternat reminded me that I had posted the 1964 WINTERNATIONALS Official Entry List here on the HAMB ... just click the thumbnail:
I done died and gone to heaven! Thanks a mil guys! BTW- I'm doing the own "add a soundtrack" deal . I've got the Finks Fill'er Up record playing in the background. The whole surf music thing fits this really well...
Thanks Ryan, love the old style dragsters............They were Good Days ! firstnomad www.angelfire.com/jazz/flatlandstudio
I meant going drag racing, chasing chicks and that. Not the being drafted and going to Vietnam shit...
Thanks to all who made this possible!! Beach, Pomona, Bakersfield. ...and some non-racing sidelights of the era, ...remember when over 100 top fuelers tried to qualify for 64 spots at the Smoker's meet in 64, how times have changed!
Great eye-candy! This film almost looks like it was staged and shot on more modern equipment, though it obviously wasn't. Just a very unusual feel to it. You don't often get to see what looks like "home movies" but shot with what appears to be professional 16mm equipment. Somebody took very good care of this film too. Thanks for passing this gem along!
The music is nice, but I'd love to see the Winternationals sequence synced up to the album put out by Fleetwood Records that has recordings of all the runs. Ryan - Nice edits & soundtrack ... thanks for all your efforts! Don't know why ... but when I watched this new (edited) version, I saw stuff that I totally missed when I watched the silent version ... including the 13 seconds of Bob Walters "Violent Vendor" A/FD (@ the 10:17 mark) ... A couple of years ago, I started a thread on this Lansing Michigan based FED ... just click the thumbnail:
