so, i am not going to call this a trip of a lifetime, because that would imply that i will be satisfied to make this trip, or trips like it, only once in my life. and i have a hard time believing that to be true. but, it certainly is an incredible adventure in the making, so i thought i'd share.

when my wife and i got married last summer, we couldn't really take the time off to do a proper honeymoon. and lucky guy that i am, a honeymoon that included bonneville and the hamb drags was right up becky's alley. so we started planning then to take nearly 3 weeks off in august 2010, and take the 54 to infinity and beyond, or something.

anyway, here we are at t-6 days and i am going insane. my pal nosurf suggested i start a road trip thread to calm my nerves. but i think he knew it would only make things worse...

the 54 has been a great car, but i wanted to make sure it was ready for 6,000+ miles, and started going through it. i replaced a shock, got the thing in the air and put a wrench on nearly every nut and bolt in the suspension systems. i installed seatbelts, and got a brand new tire mounted on the spare. i installed tunes. but i am not gonna show pics of that, because i hid it in the glove box... and i gave it a nice buff and wax and wash and shined the 56 year old paint up as good as can be.

anyway, i'll update this from the road, but here are a few shots of the prep work to get you in the mood.

our trip will take us from boston-ish to niagara falls, across onatrio and michigan into chicago, then along i80 to omaha, or lincoln. then to cheyenne or laramie, then to wendover. after wendover, we're headed to nosurf's in kansas via denver. then on to the hamb drags. after the drags, we'll dip down through arkansas into memphis, nashville, and on to skyline drive in virginia, before heading home. i am stoked beyond belief and i can't think about anything else right now.

all shined up and ready to go:

You are going to have a great time! Don't worry about a thing, you have the whole HAMB nation to back you up!

    Lookin' good Billie-Ray.

Nothing will keep your mind off the pending trip, but updating this thread with your thoughts and pics will help the time go by faster until you leave. maybe.

Have a safe trip.......if you pull your toolbox out of the car at night (for security reasons), make sure that you put it back in the car for whatever trip you do. We made a grocery store run @ 6am in 2003 with "no tools", everything was left in the room & we had carb. issues & had to buy "grocery store" tools to clean/rebuild a carb.

Very cool... I'll be following this road trip journal. I've done a few similar and they've made for some of my best memories. I'm so glad you're looking at it from an "adventure" standpoint, that always makes some of the labors of road trips tolerable or even exciting.

Send me a PM when you're in the Salt Lake Area, I'll treat you two to dinner.

For food @ Bonneville, make sure that you have "Trino's tacos" inside the Stateline casino......they are cheap & REAL GOOD!!

And while in Nashville make sure you stop by Robert's Western World, don't waste your time going to the Gaylord Complex at Opryland U.S.A.

Cool start to your adventure thread. I'm about 12 miles from the bridge from winsor to detroit and I've got plenty of room here at the house for overnight guests. Love to have ya stop if you got the time or need. Also program my cell number into you phone for any emergencies 24/7.

    Have fun!

  16. Cause it's still under construction from the flood ;)

See ya at the salt, General. I'll be there with the BenD crue.

  17. Mark, Do you have your passports? US Customs will not let you back in the good ole USA if you don't have em!!!

They will let you leave without em, but not back in without em.

  21. Looking forward to meeting you at the drags and following this thread. Becky may be more anxious than you if she's going to spend the next six days buckled in like that.:D

I'm from Buffalo so if for some reason you can't get a hold of Jim for help I can call on a few people to help along those roads. You'll be fine though and will have a great time.
