Hot Rods Hot Rod Magazine Collector Cards, 1960s, Let's Trade

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by ClayMart, Jul 25, 2010.

  1. Finally got around to scanning my Hot Rod Collector Cards and thought I'd post a few examples. Must have bought these in the mid 60s since cars always seemed more interesting to me than baseball. They were packaged like baseball cards, maybe five in a pack with a piece of pretty bad bubble gum. They covered a very wide range of cars, dragsters, Bonneville racers, car shows and even a boat or two.

But I never managed to collect the whole set of 66 cards, so I'm hoping to maybe trade some of my duplicates for the 8 cards I'm missing. There was thread here a couple years ago about these cards so I know there's some other members here that collected them too. If you have any duplicates and need a few cards to complete your set, let's see if we can work out a card for card trade.

The cards that I'm missing are numbers 8, (21, LOCATED!) (22, LOCATED!) 27, 44, 53, 60 and 65. Even if you don't have extras to trade I wouldn't mind seeing scans of them just to see what I was missing. I don't have dupes of all the others but the ones I have are still in pretty fair shape. The print quality on them, even when new, was pretty hit and miss.

Sorry about the quality (or lack) of the scan - they are much better in real life . They went to pot after I resized them . These are what you are looking for , unfortunately I only have duplicates of #49 and #31 . Im missing only about 3 cards for the whole set .

  4. This is supposed to be "series 1". Did they ever do subsequent series'?

If they did, no one I know has ever seen them.

  6. I did this collage of some of my cards a few years back to use in the story of my '32 build.

  10. I used to know that kid. He used to look back at me from the mirror. Have not seen him in years.

  11. I have that card among the hand full I have,,I always womdered why your name wasn't on the card. HRP

  12. ClayMart,,there are groups for everything else,,why not start one for card collectors,,HRP

  13. If you look at the cards, nobody's names are on them. I believe it was because that way Petersen didn't have to bother with getting a release signed. The cards were just another way of getting some more miles out of the photos they had used in magazines.

  14. Hey, I got a bite on a couple cards already.

24riverview- Here's what I've got to swap for a couple of yours.

Anyone else needing to pick up a few missing cards, feel free to list them here.

Well if it get's busy enough in here I just may do that! :D

  15. I have a few from when I was a kid also. God only knows where I have them stashed! Like my friends wife says "When you die its going to be a hell of an auction!"

Here's 21 and 22 (the cards aren't trimmed on the left side, scanner did that)

  18. 24riverview came up with a couple cards I needed which were swapped out for a couple of my extras that he needed. :D Can't beat that deal!

Still a few holes in my collection though. Still in need of numbers 8, 27, 44, 53, 60 and 65. And I've got a fair amount of spares for trading material. Anybody else sitting on some these cards?

I recently cleared out some boxes at my parent's house and found these. I have extras of 8,9,12,14,26,31,33,34,35,36,40,42,43,46,47,56,63 and 64. Let me know if you need any of them.

  24. WhamFrog-

I could use a #8 if you're willing to do a one for one swap. PM me if you want to set up a trade.

Here's what I've got extras of for trading material.

    1 2 5 6 7 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 20 23 25 28 29 30 32 33 35 36 38 10 42 43 45 47 49 50 55 56 58 59 62 & 63.

And you might want to pop over and make a quck post in the "Intorduce Yourself" thread. Most members here consider it a point of courtesy. Welcome to the H.A.M.B. :D
