Default UPS and Paypal warnings.... I hate em both

I know we get a lot of crap about Ebay and Paypal but there is a new thing you all need to know about if you are doing anything with Paypal online. Plus UPS is now in the mix for me.

I sold my Ford FE 6x2 intake on Ebay. It was a complete unit, rebuilt carbs, linkage etc... Beautiful. Shipped it UPS and it got damaged. No problem. Full insurance through UPS. That has been more than two months ago. No payment from UPS...still in "investigation phase". They can get a box from Indiana to Indonesia overnight but 60 plus days to look at a damaged package? Anyway, after about a week, the buyer decided he didn't want to wait for UPS to pay the claim so he filed a complaint with Paypal (how he paid me) saying that the product was misrepresented (it wasn't...it was just damaged). So before contacting me or anything, Paypal froze my account and all money in it. I only had about $846.00 in there and the claim is more than that. That has been over three weeks now and Paypal has no phone number...everything is E-mail. It is still in "arbitration" and no one has contacted either of us in weeks. I can't pay the guy, he's got the parts, UPS has paid nothing, Paypal has an additional $846 of my money and everyone is pissed. No resolution in sight.
Forward to February 8. I sell HAMB'er Slag Kustom a Magnuson twin 4-71 blower on Ebay. I individually wrap every piece using seven packages of bubble wrap, build a wooden crate, wire it to the base and take it to the UPS store. They have me fill out a form with the address and then read it back to me as they type it into the computer. Then they proceed to ship it to some chick named Latoya Mitchell in Florida instead of David in New Jersey. A few days later, I get a PM from Slag saying he hasn't recived the blower. I check the tracking and see that some random chick has had this thing for days. I call UPS screaming and they "no sweat, we'll pick it up, REPACKAGE it if neccessary, and send it to the right place and refund your shipping". They pick it up, don't repackage it and then contact Slag saying both boxes have been damaged in shipping. No problem, full insurance through UPS. They sent it to the wrong place, admit it, picked it up and damaged it and admit that. That has been over six weeks. Still no resolution from UPS. The store now is trying to claim that the damage is a result of poor packaging on my end when it was shipped to Florida and that it might not be covered by insurance. There was no claim in Florida and no comment from UPS when THEY picked it up and it had been opened and unwrapped. Then UPS told Slag that he should pursue his money back from me through PAYPAL. I of course don't have the money sixty days later and my account is now frozen from this other UPS fiasco that was also fully insured by UPS two months ago.
So I called my ex-college roomate who is now the Prosecutor here and he gave me several alternatives...contact the BBB, the local news action team, and my new attorney. I told UPS today that I am doing all those things if I don't have resolution today. Such bullshit. What good is insurance from UPS?

On top of this, I still have the deal going with ex-Hamber 1evil51 that took my cadillac 6x2 and carbs in trade, never sent his stuff, and never has returned mine. Two months ago also and another $600 and lots of empty promises so far.

Then I tried to help everyone out with Metalflake paint on here this week, got a huge reply for much more than I have and contacted the manufacturer who told me they would try to help us out and get me a price on Monday. No response for the last three days despite repeated requests. That is something that I was not trying to make ANY money on, just help out the manufacturer and get us all a deal. It makes me feel like an ass for trying to do a favor.

It takes all the fun out of this when you deal with people with no honor and no sense of responsibility. Plus, I am out about $7000 worth of parts right now, PLUS $846 of the money that people paid me. I am not rich and don't have that kind of money. I sell stuff to pay for other stuff. Now I've got no money and nothing left to sell other than the cars in the classifieds. More importantly, I never did anything wrong. I shipped what I was supposed to ship in the condition it was supposed to be in, and fully insured it all!
Slag has been patiently waiting for six weeks and is out parts and money too and I am powerless to help him other than getting an attorney like I did today...which is even more money unless UPS does what they are supposed to do. I've got full documentation for everything but no money. I'm trying to remember why I like this hobby?

The point of this rambling is that I've learned that UPS is worthless when they damage something. The insurance is a complete JOKE. Don't take Paypal payment from anybody for anything because all they have to do is say "item not as described" ,whether it is true or not, and Paypal will zap the money right back out of your account before you know about it and hold it indefinitely while it's in "arbitration" with no human contact. This is a huge scam waiting to happen as soon as people figure it out. My advise....Take money orders only and use the US Mail who actually pays their claims. My two cents.

I'm sorry to Slag Kustom who is very cool and I'm very bummed that that awesome blower setup won't be on your cool truck. I'm doing everything I can to help you. Everybody else be warned. I had no trouble with anyone in 17 years of doing this stuff and now all this at once. There are still lots of good people doing car stuff but it doesn't take much to get fucked hard.

I have been stressed out of my mind trying to get resolution for Slag and the guy that bought my 6x2 for the last 6-8 weeks and in trying to deal with 1Evil51 for 8 weeks. Now the paint thing. I freak out easy and get frustrated quickly. I needed to vent and I'm trying to spare everyone else from the same with those PAYPAL and UPS insurance scams.

UncleScooby,
Our experience with that very same scenario has been used against us with PayPal,UPS...AND USPS recently.
With UPS, the deliveryman lost hundreds of dollars in posters destined for Japan and the Roth Estate, then LIED about it to the main station and to my face, saying he handed them to my wife- who was having surgery in another town at the time!
We filed a claim...we got BUPKIS/nada/zilch....

Paypal took money out of our account after siding with some bastard who did not purchase insurance, then whined like a bitch when USPS damaged his order.....he expected replacements at our expense, then told a slanted version of what happened to Payal, who half-assedly looked into it then took his side.....

Your loss is much greater, but believe us,we share your anger at this sort of situation.

It royally stinks to see you in such a predicament. However I am not surprised at the large companies response to you, aka "We'll get to it when we get to it. Oh, you actually want us to do something about us getting you back what you deserve? Line forms to the right."

I seriously hope that now you have the law involved they'll finally get off their rear and get things straightened out.

FedEx works well for me. I've dealt with them for shipping for a while, seem pretty good. No damaged packages yet after 8 years.

USPS is even worse when it comes to the insurance deal. They want 90-120 days to "resolve" the situation. I lost $$$ through them via a bad computer part return. They lost package, I never got paid for the insurance on it. So even the post office is in on it.

Like I didn't have enough other stuff to worry about! Thanks for the warnings about PAYPAL & UPS . I'm a real rookie & have only recently started dealing with these systems . It seems like less & less sellers are using PAYPAL, so maybe your not the only one having problems with them .
The only problem I see with sellers only accepting money orders/cashiers checks is the time thing . You have to go purchase the payment-mail it -then sit around & wait for the seller to let you know what's happening .
I myself, haven't had a problem yet & I guess I'll have to cross my fingers that I won't! Thanks for the info . DANZEE

That's bullcrap.

I haven't had any problems with paypal yet but I hate UPS.

So far I've gotten a busted headlight, a fender bent nearly in half and a chin spoiler for my old car bent and cracked. On top of that they lost a cd player and some speakers. I have had nothing but problems with them.

I just had a rant on my "tuner" car page about this yesterday. But it was FedEx for me. Never had a single problem with them and I've probably shipped with them 500 times between work and personal. But they lost my $700 exhaust system yesterday.

It's crap. The problem is...we have to pay for insurance seperate. If they auto insured every package up to a certain $ amount I guaranteed you'd see a lot less packages "disapearing" or getting damaged. I have a couple friends that work(ed) for UPS and they tell me that they'd have guys that could see how far they could toss stuff. Guys get lazy and don't secure stuff in the trucks so stuff falls over onto other stuff. It's bullcrap. They have us by the balls and they know it so they do whatever the hell they want.

As far as paypal goes..this online stuff always freaks me out. I just sent a check to Ryan for that very reason. I've never heard of them screwing people over but it definately sounds like that's what's happening. You need to get through to a management person and get this figured out. It's complete bullcrap what they're doing.

If you're still on good terms with the buyer maybe you guys can work together on it.

I'm with Johnny and Scooby on this one. I have had trouble with both UPS and ESPECIALLY eBay.

I was selling a server for a few hundred bucks when the guy that won it must have decided that he couldn't afford it. So in his process of flaking, he noticed something that I forgot. That I had changed my shipping address when I moved from a suburb to Houston proper but that I had not changed my address in my original eBay registration. So he reported this to ebay without my knowledge and the next thing I know, my account was suspended without ebay ever asking me ONE question about it. I was able to take him to arbitration through their 'square deal' or whatever program and I won the case but he still wouldn't pay me and ebay wouldn't respond to my emails to reactivate my account. And like has been said before, NO PHONE NUMBER to talk to a real person to get it taken care of. Yahoo does this 'hide behind email only' thing, as does ebay and paypal.

Shamefully, I still look on ebay for cool stuff that I need through my girlfriend's account but I haven't graced them with starting another account for myself so that they get any of my money and I have gone back to newspaper classifieds for selling any extra stuff that it not HAMB type material.

I hate corporations for the very same reasons that GasserFreak alluded to. They claim to be the backbone of the 'american free enterprise system' but they have no honor and don't care who they hurt while lining their already full pockets. And yet we still let them pay to run out country however they like. Scary.

Just think, one day our kids will 'pledge allegiance to Microsoft/eBay and to the republic, which it violates...

It seems ups has been fucking up alot. I got a package the other day with a big hole in it that had been retaped. I open the box and find a mercedes desile injection pump addressed to some one else inside my box with the parts i ordered.

UPS will retape a box after they destroy it and loose half of its contents.

uncle scooby has been trying to get this solved with me and been very good about the whole deal.

checking your tracking # will tell you alot. when checking on the one blower box i saw that it was damaged and my ups guy told me he refused to try to deliver it to me. the next day said box shows up halfassed taped back together. I had to sign for it just to start the claim and see if the contents where fucked or missing.

as of right now i have a $3,300 polished blower paper weight because of a huge ups fuck up that they admit to but have done nothing to resolve it!!!!!!!!

Ebay, Paypal, etc are only as good as the people that buy/sell on there. DHL and Fedex have consistently lower prices than UPS and better service. My question is why'd you go into the UPS store again after they fucked up your last shipment?

Yeah, you did it right. I can't find Roy though. I thought he worked at Honda but I heard from Randy that it's UPS but he's off with a leg injury or something? Do you have any contact info for him?

I've had major problems with both USPS and UPS. I don't even feel like writing it all down, but it all scares me because we are at the mercy of these companies. When they do their job, great, but there is NO ACCOUNTABILTY when they screw up.

I use FedEx for packages whenever possible.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, I too have had bad dealing with UPS insurance claims...that is why I ship solely with Fedex now. When I was busy building my custom cruiser bikes I ended up having a few damaged in shipping. UPS was horrible and took over 3 months to rectify. I started shipping by fedex ground and only had one problem out of about 25 bikes I shipped with them. The problem was taken care of immediately without any problems.
Plus Fedex ended up being cheaper and faster than brown.

Good luck with your issues.

There is a reason that UPS sucks...they can't fire anyone...The teamsters have negotiated a sugar daddy deal with UPS and basically they can't fire anyone...they have to be caught stealing somthing to get written up and even then if it is less than 500 bucks they won't get fired....if they damage you product tough shit your fault. I watched the local UPS slug drop a box off the back of his truck clearly marked computer. he delivered it to the shop next door and they signed for it. I went over later in the day to talk shop and they were all pissed trying to deal with UPS cause their brand new computer was broke to shit. it looked like it had been in a bar fight with the Hells Angeles.

I don't use UPS...Fed/Ex is way better they are not covered by the teamsters and if their guys fuck up they are fired...

Man I am sorry to hear about this. I try not to have anything shipped UP$ but for different reasons. UP$ Is Expen$ive here in Alaska. There is Ground but on smaller stuff the cost is not much different than Next day and you still have to wait about a week or two to get your package. On larger things The cost difference is quite a bit but it seems that UP$ ground is kept as a secret by UP$ and when I contact a seller I get the next day rate. Fed ex is the same way.
BTW The FE intake is here and in great shape. But it did not come up by UP$.

UPS sucks for sure, but you have to stay on them. I carved up a 5ft tiki for a crazy guy in Boston. $900.00 tiki and UPS breaks it! This is a solid piece of wood remind you and these jerks break it and say it was due to improper packaging. Yeah, so the part that was broken off and the wood base that was part of the packaging was justt gone?... and they somehow threw away the missing parts.
The guy that bought it vouched for me that it was packaged A+ and it was their fault. We got our $ back and the shipping charges as well. My wife got the $ back in less thatn a month. Good luck!

The good news is the Green Goblin got me a phone number for paypal so I can talk to a human being. Seymour Paint stepped up today and is offering $1 per can discount to HAMB'ers and you can order direct with no minimum and they will ship it right to you. So now the real problem is back to UPS and the insurance that means nothing. I'm going full tits with the BBB, attorney, and news today. I have had enough. Since I've got the attorney anyway, I figure I'll go that route with 1evil51 if that isn't handled this week too. What I hate about this UPS crap is that they aren't just screwing me. Two guys counted on me to get cool parts and sent me the money. I sent them the parts and UPS ruined them...and is completely responsible. I want nothing more than to make it right for two guys who did nothing wrong and deserve immediate resolution and not only can I not help them, Paypal took my money to complicate things. It's one thing to screw me, it's another to screw the people who are counting on me. I'd love UPS and FEDEX corporate guys to see this thread.

Unclescooby,

Please believe me when I say this, without having to go into a long explaination, but call the Attorney General's office of both your state and the state the package was shipped to. I did that once and (I can't believe I'm applauding the gov't) but Holy Schitt was the situation ever resolved almost immediately.

I feel for ya, man. I shipped a fender to a guy in some small town in Indiana last year. Our shipping guy biffed the address , and it got sent to the north end of town instead of the south side. Some gal signed for it, and sent it right back with the driver. UPS then lost the package, and I refunded the guy's payment. No more contact from UPS, then all of a sudden 2 months later my fender shows up here! No one at UPS could tell me where it came from. I reshipped it(no choice on carriers) and it got there in a day.

Scooby, if you call your local UPS representative, ask for the number for the Atlanta office. Then, when you are talking to the people handling your dispute, mention the Atlanta office, and that they know what's going on there. I know it sounds goofy, but it's worth a try. That's their H.Q. office for that kind of stuff, and as soon as someone there hears about a dispute like this, things'll start happening. A co-worker used to work for the rolling turd trucks and according to him that's the best thing to do. We did it here once and got thinngs resolved sooner than usual.

THATS THE REASON I REFUSE TO USE PAYPAL AND ONLY TAKE MONEY ORDERS.PAYPAL IS CONVIENENT BUT ITS NOT WORTH THE BS. UPS IS NOW BUYING UP ALL THE TRUCKING COMPANYS THEY CAN. THEY OWN ROADWAY AND YELLOW. ITS A BIG FIGHT FOR CONTROLL AND ANOTHER WAY TO GOUGE THE CONSUMER..
IVE SHIPPED 1000'S OF PARTS AND LUCKLY ONLY HAD A HANDFULL OF CLAIMS. ALWAYS CONTEST THE CLAIM IT WASNT PACKAGED RIGHT , DEMAND TO TALK TO THE MANAGER AND ALWAYS USE THE INSURANCE COMISSONER IF THE GIVE YOU A HARD TIME. THEY LVE TO TAKE YOURCASH FOR THEY'RE "INSURANCE" BUT WHEN IT GETS TRASHED THEY ALWAYS SAY ITS YOUR FAULT AND YOU DIDNT PACKAGE IT RIGHT. THEY HAVE A SIGN HERE AT THE LOCAL UPS STORE THATS SAY PACKAGES WILL BE INSPECTED BEFORE SHIPPING,WITH THAT SIGN YOU CAN DUMP THE RESPONSIBILTY" ON THE EMPLOYEE OF THE "BIG BROWN " THE NAME FITS THEM VERY WELL

I had a problem with a lighted beer sign I sold on ebay and shipped via UPS at the UPS counter in a Staples Store. I had bubble wrapped the sign (it was small) and put it in a box surrounded by styrofoam that went inside another box with 2" thick styrofoam on all sides, but when it was delivered it looked like a forklift arm had been driven half way through both boxes (the guy who got the package sent me pictures). It took over 2 months, many emails, snail mails, phone calls, and finally written letters to the CEO of UPS and the head of their claims and legal departments before they finally sent a refund. Thank god I do not accept Paypal, as if the bidder had paid with Paypal and filed a claim, they would have locked my account. I rarely use UPS anymore and use FedEx mostly for larger packages.

I was at a live collectibles/antiques auction last night and met 2 ebay sellers I know, who had their Paypal accounts locked in the last couple of weeks due to shipping/damage/insurance/paypal problems.

That said, this has to be about the 5th time I have read on the HAMB about damage to a multi carb manifold with the carbs on it, damaged in shipping. Unless you build a wooden box for such a manifold, take the carbs and linkage off, bubble wrap the hell out of them and ship the carbs and the manifold in separate boxes. Most of the boxes I get delivered by UPS look like they were used as a soccer ball, with every corner and most seams all rounded off. The way they throw around boxes, I'm not surprised that a manifold with the carbs on it would get damaged, if it was only bubble wrapped in a cardboard box (even with many layers of bubble wrap).

Talking Re: UPS and Paypal warnings.... I hate em both

Sorry to hear this. I have had problems with USPS and FEDEX. My main problems were from others screwing me and yes some of which are on the HAMB, but thats another story I let go of quite some time ago.

Yes the uinsurance thing is always a problem because they basically always say, well the packaging isnt sufficent. Its sucks but unfortunetly some of the stuff I got sent to me I could NOT argue. The packaging sucked! My only argue was that I have no control how someone packages the stuff I buy. And if it was that bad then they should have never picked up the package to begin with. Well that will never happenbecause they would probably never get any business. People really suck that send shit out in crap packaging, but expect there stuff to come packaged perfectly.

I have never had a problem with paypal and actually am greatful that they do get the money asap. I had ordered some parts from someone that never sent them! I tried emailing them and everything, never got an answer till I pretended to be someone interested in one of there actions and wala they answered only to get an earful email back which they never answered! LOL

Paypal investigated and got my money back. Now if your worried about YOUR money then take out all your money as you get it then they cant take it. That would keep it from happening to you.

Yes! It is sad that there are so many good things in this world out there but like EVERYTHING, bad folks can ruin it, and theres not much you can do about it other then closing up shop which hurts all of us that are using the system properly.

It all comes down to morals. and there are a ton of folks that have no morals nowdays. Thats why we get screwed and insurance goes up and yata yata yata, the list goes on.

Anyway, hen I got money back from Fedex I basically just kept hounding on them and never stopped calling them they finally gave in! Yes it sucks that you have to spend all the time doing the work because of some other "a hole".

If its any help, I always go by the motto what goes around comes around, and it ALWAYS does sooner or later Thats what the smile is for..

well fingers crossed but in the last 15 minutes I've had people from PA, Sacramento and San Francisco all call me about my package.

Supposedly it's in the truck on it's way here. Hopefully it's not bent in half. And hopefully it's not and empty box.

I was looking at the tracking info...went out weighing 53 pounds. Last time scanned weighted 5. Weird.

So fingers crossed.

Same for you. Hopefully paypal does right by you guys.

I freakin hate EBAY. I REFUSE to deal with it. if someone puts up a classified ad with links to ebay I ignore it. Or if it's interesting enough I contact them directly. if I decide to buy I have them pull the listing and sell to me directly.
Ebay scares the crap out of me.

Buddy of mine bought a car through it. Guy advertised it as a....I'm thinking Superbee...but it was some sort of rare mopar. So he paid for it. Got a decent deal on it. When the car showed up it was a clone. He paid probably 2x/3x more than it was worth. The guy flat out lied. He's been dealing with it ever since. Haven't talked to him for a while so maybe it's been resolved but it had been a couple months last I heard and nothing. Far as ebay was concerned he paid for a car and got a car.

Stupid. The sad and very scary thing is that if there weren't so many ass hole thieveing greedy bastards in the world we wouldn't have to worry about all this.

I personally have never bought a car sight unseen. I just can't get over how people could do that. Everyones descriptions are so different. Its like buying a guitar without playing it. You can have 10 of the exact same instrument but there is one that always sounds better then the rest!

perfectly normal for UPS to have 60 day investigation before payment on insurance, I used to ship motorcycle frames for UPS and once a frame was stolen by someone working at UPS... (never found out who) and they pulled the same shit, took a few weeks but my bosse's wife was such a bitch that she got full payment (2300 dollars i think) within 3 weeks i think, but i can tell it would of taken 2 months if she was not such a bitch.

who i would be most mad at is the ebay purchaser who is calling you a liar. can't you email proof of your damage claim to ups or something?

corporate guys of UPS or fedex don't give a shit. the ceo's give themselves raises for saving money by laying people off and cutting back on shit. a monkey could do that. then after a few years ceo's resign and work for another company before people realize they did not help much. remember the disney ceo about 4 years ago or so? he fired like 35 percent of people to save money, but gave himself a 10 million dollar raise? what the fuck is that?

Ebay and Paypal both make me nervous. This whole online thing can be pretty iffy if you ask me. Too much information to have to give out. As a buyer I would much rather send a money order, it just seems more secure. As far as shipping? Screw UPS, Fed Ex will work much better and usually cheaper. First of all Fed Ex Ground drivers are not employees, they are contractors, meaning they own the routes themselves. So when something goes wrong on the truck they are directly responsible and it comes out of there checks. This makes them much more responsible with your package, it makes them care because an undelivered or damaged package is money out of their pocket and their route. The tracking seems to work that much better too, because it gets scanned at each stop it makes. From the place you send it, to the bulk truck, at the terminal and at the delivery truck. It just seems like a better idea to me. they are talking about making them all employees but that will take some serious time and money. There are a lot of routes to be bought back, so I don't think it'll happen anytime soon. Anyway, just my thoughts and, Uncle scooby, I'm sorry that this happened to you. Corporate America sucks and they know it. I will give them as little as possible.

google is your friend.
type "paypal' into google search & read with horror all the sites about how they lie, cheat & steal your money. they had a class action suit filed against them which i believe they lost.
as far as shipping damages, i take a digital photos of stuff i ship(FedEx) before i seal the box, print it, & put it in the box with a note that says "here's what it looked like when it left here."

you know the boston tea party was organized because of less shit than we put up with nowadays...mel

"I sold my Ford FE 6x2 intake on Ebay. Anyway, after about a week, the buyer decided he didn't want to wait for UPS to pay the claim so he filed a complaint with Paypal (how he paid me) saying that the product was misrepresented (it wasn't...it was just damaged)."

You really can't blame this guy. He probably doesn't know you from Adam, but what he does know is that he is out his money to a stranger and received goods he can't use. As for his claim with PayPal,he is a victim of their system, same as you. Claiming it was misrepresented is proobably the only option he had to try to get his money back.

I also see YOUR point. You are also out the money, plus you don't even have the damaged intake and carbs so you can salvage what you can from it to try and sell to recover some of your money. It's lose/lose for everybody.

"So before contacting me or anything, Paypal froze my account and all money in it. I only had about $846.00 in there and the claim is more than that."

None of my business and I REALLY ain't trying to rub salt in a wound, but why in the world would anybody keep that much money in a PayPal account? My PayPal account has a balance of ZERO at this time. I add money when I need to pay for things, and sometimes I have a small balance in there from a refund, overpayment,or payment for a item I have sold, but that'ts it.

BTW,while we are on this subject. Anybody in business who doesn't have a seperate PayPal account AND a seperate checking account for that PayPal account to draw from is playing Russian Roulette. IF somebody hacks PayPal's system for your password, they can drain ALL the money out out your account, leaving you well and truly screwed.

" That has been over three weeks now and Paypal has no phone number...everything is E-mail."

Of course not. They are owned by EBay.

"It is still in "arbitration""

What this means is that PayPal is waiting around for somebody at UPS to go out of their way to contact them and tell them what is happening. No way in hell is EBay or PayPal going to hire actual humans to deal with their clients. That costs money, and they only have billions.

"I can't pay the guy, he's got the parts, "

Have you tried contacting him and offering to send him a notarized letter saying you acknowledge the balance of the debt to him,and that if he will mail you the intake, carbs, and linkage by insured US Mail that you will pay him the balance once UPS settles with you? I have no idea what the balance is,but he really can't expect you to dig into your pocket to pay off a insurance claim while he is still holding the merchandise and has already been paid almost 900 bucks. There has to be a way to work this out for both of you.

"UPS has paid nothing,"

Of course not. They have a reputation for not paying. The only thing more evil than UPS is Fed Ex.I just THOUGHT I hated UPS unitl Fed Ex came along. I am to the point with them now that if I buy something from you and you insist on sending it to me via Fed Ex,I tell you to keep it. There just ain't anything I want bad enough to see them make money from me.

"Paypal has an additional $846 of my money"

What the hell do THEY care? It ain't THEIR money.

"and everyone is pissed."

Everyone has a right to be pissed.

" Then they proceed to ship it to some chick named Latoya Mitchell in Florida instead of David in New Jersey."

Repeat after me,"UPS is evil".

"I call UPS screaming and they "no sweat, we'll pick it up, REPACKAGE it if neccessary, and send it to the right place and refund your shipping"."

That guy has probably been fired by now.

" Still no resolution from UPS. The store now is trying to claim that the damage is a result of poor packaging on my end when it was shipped to Florida and that it might not be covered by insurance. "

Repeat after me,"UPS is evil".

" Then UPS told Slag that he should pursue his money back from me through PAYPAL."

Of course. They want him to do this so they can get out of paying off your insurance claim to them.

" I told UPS today that I am doing all those things if I don't have resolution today."

They don't really care. They have in-house attorney's who are already on their payroll,so it doesn't cost them any extra to go to court, and they know they can USUALLY beat the rap because it would cost most people more to take them to court than they would recover from the insurance claim.

" What good is insurance from UPS?"

Works out really well for UPS. The collect the money for the insurance, and never pay out. Waddadeal!

"On top of this, I still have the deal going with ex-Hamber 1evil51 that took my cadillac 6x2 and carbs in trade, never sent his stuff, and never has returned mine. Two months ago also and another $600 and lots of empty promises so far."

Did you mail it through the post office,or did you send it by Satan? If you mailed it,sic the postal inspectors on him for mail fraud. A federal offense, and a felony. Those bad boys don't care if it is a case of a dime or a million bucks being stolen, they get paid the same either way,and they WILL lock your ass up..

" More importantly, I never did anything wrong."

This is the part that hurts. You can kind of take your lumps if you are even a tiny bit at fault, but when you are blameless it's a killer.

"Slag has been patiently waiting for six weeks and is out parts and money too"

This is a guy who would make a good friend.

"which is even more money unless UPS does what they are supposed to do."

Plan on paying out some money to the attorney. OR you might consider taking your local UPS office to small claims court ? You might get lucky and get a judge who has been screwed by UPS himself. It would save you attorney's fees, anyhow.

"The point of this rambling is that I've learned that UPS is worthless"

Bingo!

" Don't take Paypal payment from anybody for anything because all they have to do is say "item not as described" ,whether it is true or not, and Paypal will zap the money right back out of your account before you know about it and hold it indefinitely while it's in "arbitration" with no human contact."

I take PayPal payments for small items, and take PayPal payments for things like 200 dollar down payments. I always want the rest in either cash or USPS money order. I don't even trust cashiers checks or non-USPS money orders anymoe because of the scam artists. Anybody dumb enough to run off counterfiet USPS money orders IS agoing to federal prison. They won't never quit looking for you.

" My advise....Take money orders only and use the US Mail who actually pays their claims. My two cents. "

I can tell you from personal experience that the USPS don't exactly pay out their insurance claims with blinding speed, either. The good news is that they DO pay them. Always.

Here is the real deal, folks. Keep a minimum balance in your PayPal account, and use a checking account dedicated to that PayPal account. Deposit money as needed. If it ain't there, neither PayPal nor any hacker can take it out.

Only accept small payments though PayPal. Your idea of small is probably different than mine, but I usually don't take over 200 bucks. In my own case I do this because I now accept the fact that I will never transfer money out of my PayPal account to my checking account. I will always spend whatever is in there on more stuff from EBAY.

Secondly, ship stuff using the USPS if at all possible. Most of you will be surprised to find you can ususally save 30-50% on shipping over UPS rates if you use insured parcel post, and it will get to you quicker than if UPS carried it. The post office moves mail and packages on weekends, and UPS doesn't.

Here are a couple of recent examples. I had a 33 Plymouth front fender mailed to me in NC from Florida last month. UPS wanted it boxed, and they wanted $70 for shipping via UPS Ground. The guy just did as I suggested and wrapped it in bubblewrap, taped a address card to it,and called the post office to have them come pick it up. Yes,they DO come pick up packages now. Mailing cost was $27.

Just bought a set of Y-Block 4 barrel breather. The guy was going to UPS it to me,and wanted $33.10 for shipping. I convinced him to use the post office, and insured shipping was $19.95

Finally, for items that cost more than a few bucks, pay them using a USPS money order. If they cash the money order and don't send the item to you, they just committed mail fraud. This also protects the seller because he knows the payment he just got isn't bogus.

Same thing with payments going to you. If you get a USPS money order in,you know the money is going to be there. You can no longer trust even cashiers checks any further than a personal check can be trusted.

" I have been stressed out of my mind trying to get resolution for Slag and the guy that bought my 6x2 for the last 6-8 weeks and in trying to deal with 1Evil51 for 8 weeks. Now the paint thing."

You're doing ok. I'd probably be barking at and biting the neighbors dog.

FEDEX!!! They have screwed me, not UPS. Them taking the money from the driver might be why the guy who dropped off my package rang the doorbell and ran. Before I could even look at the package and say hey wait we need to check this...(because it looked like it was ran over). He was long gone. I couldnt even see what he looked like. Sad thing is he wasnt even the one that damaged it apparently, but he was the poor soul that had to drop it off. Don't know who had to pay for my claim, but it was 2-3 months of pain in the ass, thats for sure. I got to know my UPS guy pretty good. He's a real nice guy and if ever something came thru him he would definetly stick up for me. I suggest you do the same. Have the wife make him some cookies or a christmas care package or something. It will help you out sometime in the future. At least UPS has the same driver come to my house. FEDEX is always someone different so you can't get to know them. Satin

>>Ebay scares the crap out of me. <<

Why? There is nothing they can do to you if you are careful. I've bought lots of stuff on ebay that I would have never found otherwise, including a couple of cars.

"Buddy of mine bought a car through it. Guy advertised it as a....I'm thinking Superbee...but it was some sort of rare mopar. So he paid for it. Got a decent deal on it. When the car showed up it was a clone. He paid probably 2x/3x more than it was worth."

This ain't a couple of bucks we are talking about. When you are spending that kind of money you need to either have a professional appraiser from that area or someone you know personally check the car out for you before you ever pay it off. Worse comes to worse, buy a airline ticket and fly there on a weekend to check it out in person and pay it off. Make a deposit using PayPal or Overnight Express from the post office, and then go look at the car before you pay it off.

"I personally have never bought a car sight unseen."

I've made deposits on them until I could go look in person and pay them off,but the only one I've ever paid off iin full unseen only cost 500 bucks, and a friend of mine looked at it for me.

"Everyones descriptions are so different."

Even more important, two people can have very different honest opinions about the condition and value of a car. I know a guy who has a unrestored beater 69 Ford 3x4 ton van who thinks it is more valuable than my 32 coupe "because they only made 1,000 of them". He's serious, too.

Turns Out The Driver Took Both Pieces.....only One Tracking Number .....the Piece Vanishes.....the Guy Throws The Pay Pal Police On Me ....wanting Cash Back ....i Go Thru The Mediation Deal On This ....finally Get Pay Pal Off My Back .....then I Have To Jump Thru Hoops With Ups On The Claim ....and Now The Lost Piece......after Most Of This Is All Said And Done....it Took 5 Months To Make Them Say They Made A Mistake And Lost The Piece.....but They Would Only Cover What The Peice Sold For ....not The Replacement Value.....pretty Much Sucks.....ups Now Uses A Claims Company To Deal With The Loses And Such .....not Real Happy With Either .....brandon

I hate companies that rely on email as Customer Service and does not have a phone number. I had an issue with ebay and it took weeks to resolve. The paypal thing scares me now..

FedEx Ground SUCKS as far as I'm concerned!

Bought a brand new, in the box, Walker Max-cool with condenser for my 40 off e-gay for $400!! Quite a savings, eh? Had pictures of front and back of the box and radiator; pristine condition.

Not after F**k-Ex got through with it. Guy delivering tried to slide it in until I showed him the tear in the box. Opened it and the condenser was hit on the corner. He said to refuse the shipment and file a claim. WRONG! Should have kept it.

A month later, after it had gone through two terminals, I finally got a call from FedEx Express (the airplane people, not Ground) wanting to know what they were doing with it, and did I want it delivered. Hell yes!

Well the thing was beat to shit; core smashed, brackets bent, tanks bent, condenser smashed!! A small ding in the condenser was nothing compared to this.

Filed a claim for the dealer replacement price, sent pictures, documentation,
made I don't know how many phone calls, and it still took them 6 months to refund my money. But the pricks had a way out....the shipper stated the value at $400 instead of $549. Yes I got my $400 back finally, but certainly can't replace it for that.

Lesson learned: Ship by someone who won't demolish your stuff!! NOT FXG

I would have been better off to have kept it the first time and bought a condenser.

I've had just as many problems with Fed-Ex and DHL as UPS. As a matter of fact we will no longer allow packages to be shipped via DHL at work, they were that bad.... UPS has been much more consistant for mme than the others... mileage may vary...

We ship out anywhere between 250 to 400 packages a day with Oops. (UPS) Overall, they are pretty good for us. I will admit that shit gets beat up on purpose.... ESPECIALLY anything with the over 75# tape on it.

Getting a claim taken care of is hell.... even with the volume we ship.

Their customer service is quick to say 'I'm sorry' but can't seem to do anything about it.

We just grin and bare it...

You know, this stuff probably belongs in the tech-o-matic since so many people here use all these pricks to swap stuff around.

I use UPS on stuff over 3 lbs because it's usually cheaper, including things like stainless steel side trim and occasionally an antique radio, the tube type - some of those sell for pretty decent bucks.

Stainless goes in PVC pipe or drain tubes, wrapped in plastic. Radios get wrapped in plastic too, and I've been using expanding foam insulation to pack the stuff tight. So far, no problems, knock on wood, but those old radios I double box, too, with more padding to protect the inside box. I applied in a FedEx terminal and got a look at what goes on there... the stuff is routed on these conveyors and occasionally a box falls 15 feet to the concrete floor below. If your stuff isn't packed to survive that happening about 15 times, it's probably going to see some damage. I got a Zenith shortwave radio with one whole end panel of the case missing to the west coast through some miracle intact - no longer have the boxes my welder came in, but I guess I don't need 'em anymore. I'm sure UPS is the same way - you get paid to put the boxes on trucks, not make sure they're in the right place and not getting smashed to hell, so the employees don't care. On the bright side, it would be harder to steal through FedEx - everyone has to go into a gate through a metal detector and all this shit, the security guard is going to wonder why you're carrying car parts out with you.

-----------------------------

PayPal - sometimes it's just the easiest thing to use. I try to use it for overseas buyers only, and I tell them 'this is how much it will cost me to take a paypal from you. eBay won't let me charge you up front, so it's your choice if you want to pay that too' - usually they give it to me.

So here's how to keep these assholes from screwing you. Tie it to your bank account one-way only, or to a dedicated bank account. Every time money comes in, transfer it out to the bank account. If they can take money from that account, transfer it out of there to an account they can't touch. I'd put that little detail right into my auctions, too, so people see that they might screw Paypal, but won't touch you. I had a guy tie up $140 on me last month because his package wasn't arriving quite fast enough - turned out the stainless was too big for drain tube and I had to go out and buy a piece of round PVC for it, so I couldn't ship it the same day he paid. I only got out of it when he dropped the claim, although I did submit the tracking to Paypal I think it would have been 2 months. Meanwhile, I filed a claim for something else, and have heard nothing on it in weeks. I just hope the seller's account is tied up on it, they deserve it (long story).

Someone mentioned they had an account suspended for bad contact info - I always check this out when someone is causing a problem. It's not that big of a deal - you update the info, you get the account back, but a seller loses all their auctions into thin air - they're gone, they can't just relist them or anything. I've had a couple of them shut down just on the basis of a link to a reverse phone search showing no results for the number.

Does anyone live close to this guy who didn't live up on his end of the swap on the carb setup? Someone needs to go knock on his door, or have a lawyer buddy call him up and ask about it.

update to my person fight with fedex.

They did right by me today. I got contacted by people in 3 different sites. I just got contacted by the girl that was helping me yesterday to make sure I got it.

I decided to sit out front of the building at wait. So I went to get coffee across the street..I turned around just in time to see the green logo (ground) rolling to a stop in front of the building. Ran in front of two cars and in front of him just as he was about to pull away without even getting out of the truck.

I guess he was scared of getting towed.

Anyway you look at it. I got my package. It's huge. I hurt my dang back carrying it from where he left it to my desk. He apparently didn't understand all the way to the back and just put it down next to the bathroom.

But I'm happy....I don't think the night commuters on the train are gonna be. Haaaaaaaa.

Best of luck with your deal man. I am going to be very very careful with dealing with paypal in the future. As it is I avoid it as much as possible and never deal with ebay.

Let us know how it goes.

Unclescooby, I dumped UPS years ago! They lost several race car items on me and I never got a penny back from them, PLUS they are the most arrogant people I've ever met!! Do yourself and your customers a big lifechanging favor and ship FedEx GROUND!!!! They charge about half what UPS costs, and they are friendly caring people to deal with. PAYPAL? Don't get me started, I saw that as a scam from day one. Money orders and personal checks have all worked fine for me, I get 100% of the selling price and don't have to give a cut to PayPal.

Already been said but needs repeated..

If you use paypal. Never keep any funds in it.
Always keep an eye on your account and transfer it out as soon as it arrives. They can't freeze or take anything when its not available to them.

I had them do it to me once. Luckily it was only 8 bucks. Best 8 bucks I ever spent.
I hope things go together for you. That really is terrible. PJ

There is a reason that UPS sucks...they can't fire anyone...The teamsters have negotiated a sugar daddy deal with UPS and basically they can't fire anyone...they have to be caught stealing somthing to get written up and even then if it is less than 500 bucks they won't get fired....if they damage you product tough shit your fault.

obviously you don't know anything about UPS or the teamsters union, UPS is totally fire crazy they love to fire people, the Teamsters union doesn't back anyone who works there, all they care about is collecting dues, I have worked there for over 16 yrs, if they THINK you stole something as small as a piece of gum your out the door PERIOD. They fire people for "stealing time" all the time. Have an accident bam your fired, even if the police report says your not at fault. Like I said I have worked there for over 16 years and have seen it all first hand.

Why would they be in a hurry to serve you? The longer they keep your money the longer they draw intrest on it at their bank. If they treat a million people the same way they make a bundle.

Racer5....Thank You!!...you are right I was with UPS for 18 years. I destroyed my back working 12 hour days and had to leave UPS. Sucks!! I liked the job it's the corporate bozo's that suck.

They give the drivers 14 hours worth of work and expect it done in 10. Beleive me I've delivered shit as late as 10pm. That's why nobody at UPS cares anymore.

The only thing I can say about damages is keep the packaging and take pictures. You can have the driver mark in his DIAD that the package is damaged but it really doesn't do any good. The guys making the decisions would rather play golf than do their jobs! No Kidding!!

Hell I left UPS in November and I'm still trying to get my sick and vacation pay. I call 3 or 4 times a week and I keep getting the run around. Luckily I have the union to go after them. I shoulda went to the union two months ago.

I think all the shipping companies are about the same. They all screw up.

Something else to watch for with UPS. They like to add charges even if they are not supposed to. They'll say something weighs more or is bigger than it is and will add charges to your bill. Also watch out for residential and rural surcharges. UPS is getting real sneaky.

All in all UPS used to be the best. Corporate America took over a good company and is screwing it up. I would bet the founder of UPS is rolling over in his grave with the bullshit they are pulling!

Everyone Of The Shippers 'suck', Even Fed-ex. They Are All Corporate Giants, But Like Any Chain, No Stronger Then Their Weakest Link, Which Is Some Underpaid Person, That Ends Up Not Giving A Fuck About Any Care Given To Your Package.

I Have Used All Of Them, Including Greyhound, And You Are At The Mercy Of That Weakest Link With All Of Em. Because Of That, They Have So Many Claims, They Have To Place The Blame On 'us'.

I Have Not Had One Problem With Stuff I Ship, Because I Spend Quite A Bit Of Time Making Sure It Is Packed With Enough Protection To Take What The Weakest Link Can Do To It.

I Have, However, Received Stuff That Was Broken, And Most Of The Time, It Was Not Protected Good Enough To Make The Tough Journy.

I Agree, You Should't Have To Spend That Much Time Over-protecting The Goods, But, Once Bitten-twice Shy. Some Of You Guys Need To Spend More Time Boxing Your Goods, If You Want To Avoid The Hassels And-or Give A Shit That The Buyer Gets Your Parts In One Piece. These Boxes Are Going To Go Through Hell, No-matter Who You Ship With. !!!!!!!!! It's A Cruel Fucking World.

FedEx has never given me any problems, great shipping, great service just like pay pal. UPS and E-gay on the other hand are the spawn of satan.

Sold a bike on ebay once(three times actually, same bike) and the guy decided he didnt trust me to be there to give the bike to the shipping company and wouldnt pay for it E-bay wouldnt refund my listing fees 'cause they had some stupid reason and wouldnt reply to ANY of my emails. Eventually I was able to pester the "buyer" enough (threatened to roadtrip down there and 'meet' him) that he paid up the listing fees, yet I continue to spend hundreds of dollars on e-bay 'cause i'm a chump

I don't know where you live....

I'm just trying to tell you how easy Western Union is. You can call them...give them a creditcard number and they do the rest. I have gotten money overnight from Italy...trouble free. Kmart also sells them, at 59 cents apiece. The point is this....shipping packages and transferring money has to be done in some manner......Western Union has been in the money business for decades....As far as packages go, choose your poison. I will never use USPS again...lying bunch of assholes. I shipped a package worth a thousand bucks, it never arrived and they claimed it was signed for. My sister doesn't lie....she never got the package, and didnt sign for it either...the postman signed for her....LIke I said..."Choose your own poison"....

Paypal works exactly the same way as any credit card company.
If the buyer makes a claim, they nearly always win.
I've used Paypal for years along with UPS and found them excellent.
I won't say perfect, every system has faults.
The problem with any of them is the people behind the system, and of course, unreliable buyers and sellers that try to exploit the systems.
It doesn't matter who makes a claim if your a vendor using mastercard, visa, american express, paypal or what ever, policy is pretty much the same.
UPS shops are all franchises and bloody expensive and another bad link in the system. I won't use them.
Basically unless you get paid in cash and hand the items to the customer, you stand a good chance of getting screwed.
The more variables you introduce, the more the chances.
It was much better when we swapped parts for beers.
At least if we got that wrong we had nobody else to blame and felt good about it.

if you need any more reason to use fedex, consider this...monday, i'll be back to work, full time, just over a year (march 10) since i got hurt. they easily could have told me to stay home and take the social security check, but they've made tremendous accomodations to keep me in the fold. while i'm getting paid a couple bucks an hour less than i made as a driver, i ASSURE you, it's way more than i'd make, based on my present physical ability.

i've worked at fedex since '87, and since '89, i've worked in the express freight (150 lbs +) division. my new job duties include keeping track of service failures, and trying to prevent them. if you have any questions about shipping heavy stuff, check with me, maybe i can help you prevent damage from occuring during shipment. also, if you need help resolving an issue that's already in the pipes, i *might* be able to help, by sending you in the right direction.

Monsterflake....that's good to hear. When a person gets injured working for UPS they don't have a job unless they are 110 percent. My back is weak now and I'm only supposed to lift 40 pounds. UPS didn't want me back unless I had no restrictions.

I'm better off now.

I want to scream soooo loud right now. this on going saga with me and unclescooby about the blower is at the point it is stupid.

I have a bunch of friends that work a UPS corprate in mahwah nj They took all my info and called all the people they know and found out the following

1 UPS store that sent package to wrong place never put insurance on the call tag for it to be shipped from flordia to me in nj

2 UPS store got refund on shipping from fl to nj over a week ago and never let me or uncle scooby know (store manager told me they did not know they had to reinsure the package) YES THEY ARE THAT DUMB

3 UPS corprate claims assetment say the store has to pay not UPS (reason we have been getting the run around)

4 owner of the ups store will not call me or uncle scooby back (knows he has to pay out of his pocket)

At this time im going to put all my effort into getting this solved and once it is done I will make sure he looses his franchise with ups ( wich he has more then one store.

You know what this basically boils down too????

Just like everything I've ever delt with. New ideas start out great! Ebay, paypal, bidpay..........the list goes on. The main problem is when something good gets popular there is always someone out there circumventing the system and using it in a way that gets them money and screws someone. No matter what system you put in place or how you change it to work better some a holes will always come along and figure out a way to rip someone off. Ebay was great at first and still is good in theory, but like anything else it gets abused. Now there is fake auctions and such.

The only thing you can do is protect yourself with whats in your control. The separete bank account idea is good. I think I may do that myself so I don't get screwed in the future.

As far as shipping well were screwed there. Unless we just conduct all our shipping in hamb relays. Heck we could start our own shipping company and ship stuff. But like anything else it will get huge and quality control will decline and before you know it we'll have people trying to get there insurance money back from us, and we'll say thats not really an insurance, its just a cost of value..............

Well I feel better about my bad experience with damaged ebay goods since it was ONLY a cracked header for $100. I didn't know about the crack until I resold the header a few weeks later and the new guy found it. I just refunded his dough and ate the loss. What ever money we save is not worth the aggravation. I think I'll use the intrnet only to set up arm's length sales from the back of the truck.

I generally agree that Fed Ex is the best and has the most up-to-date tracking info but..... be aware that even if you state the value of your item they won't pay more than $500. They really damaged a nice old guitar and the settlement wouldn't replace the case that it was in let alone the guitar itself.

Default UPS is the Antichrist

I generally have a long wick in the patience department, and it also take me a long time to work up a bitchfest about a company, but I hear completely your woes, brutha.

Just last week, I was supposed to recieve a computer via UPS ground. Friday rolled around, and I got home to see the sticker on the door. I called the distribution center, and they allowed me to come by between 8 and 9 to pick it up from "will call".

I get there, and find a traffic jam in the lot. They're allowing only 5 or 6 people in the lobby, and we were asked to wait outside our cars until we were summoned inside. Early march in Michigan=20 degrees air temp.

I get to the counter, still being patient, and ask to see the box. It is clearly labeled as a computer, with manufacturer logos all over it, and a 5 inch square red-and-white sticker reading "fragile". YET, there's a corner of the box that's completely flattened down the whole edge. I was told I have to sign for it, and deal with customer service after the fact.

Took it home, and photographed it as I was unboxing it. Packing foam was fragmented, case of the computer was scratched, as were internal components. Now, I'm between pissed and depressed, since I had saved for 9+ months to get this specific model.

Monday rolls around, and I call the seller. They say, no problem, we completely understand, and will help you the minute we recieve UPS' claim forms. That same morning, I make the claim with UPS, and am told I need to wait until close of business on Tuesday for a call from an inspector who will determine if the equipment is damaged. 4:20PM, Tuesday, I recieve that call. Whew. Nothing like 'ol fashioned customer service. Now, I have to schedule 1/2 day off to go home, wait for the inspector. I do this Wednesday, now UPS has to mail or fax this paperwork to the seller. This could take 1 to 10 business days.

So, I'm in digital purgatory. But this is not the first time I've hated UPS. Busted boxes when I recieved my '39 Ford trans. Ordered stickers for the website, and the UPS driver didn't even knock the day I was home and supposed to recieve the package-yet there it was, a bright yellow sticker!

I've also read that UPS shipped (?) four boxes of estate furniture from Atlanta to Denver. Three showed up almost unboxed, and many in several pieces. A serving plate from the MIDDLE of one of the boxes was bent beyond repair. Family heirlooms completely destroyed.

After this complete debachle, I will no longer do ANY shipping via UPS. You guys have mentioned there are alternatives, and many are cheaper. DHL, FedEx ground, and USPS, to name three right off the top.

Pissed, yeah, I am. I'm not drunk or generally that grumpy, but I want to beat the shit out of the guy that busted my computer.

Boycott UPS, and save your important stuff.

I got a call from The UPS Store corporate office today (not UPS) and they left a message and didn't return any of my other calls today. I finally called back tonight and played the game of waiting for 20 minutes "until the next representative was available" and then saying I need a live human being to help me right now. I got put in to voice mail four more times and zero'd back to the operater each time saying "NO, I need a person, not a machine". Finally, I got a girl named Tinisha who said this happens frequently. The corporate office doesn't have any real power over the UPS Stores! She called the store with me on the line and got the assistant manager, David Ferguson, again. He said he couldn't help us because the manager has all the information (he's been telling us this for weeks and the manager is never in for the last two weeks and won't return calls). The UPS Store Corporate girl asked David (the assistant manager) for the phone number of the manager and he said, "I'm sorry, I'm not allowed to give that out"....this is to the corporate office of his own company! She is trying to follow up tomorrow morning but I gaurantee the same result. I'm filing my claim with the BBB and the Attorney General's office tonight and am going to see if I can sue the guy for time and heartache on behalf of Slag and me in addition to the claim. What a nightmare.

what the hell would we all do without the HAMBilitia? place like this, we've got friends in most all of the places, let alone more than a few high ones. hope it works out in some way, at least the corporate UPS is aware of the bullshit going down, oughta count for something if it goes to legal proceedings.

FWIW, In paypal fine print about insurance coverage.

When you sell something via paypal you need to login to your account and mark as shipped.

IF you do not do this paypal will not honor any claims and there insurance is considered void.

Hope this helps someone cover there ass.

Unfortunatly I learned the hard way.

Uncle Scooby, Try going to this website www.planetfeedback.com and entering your complaint against both. The site will bring up the CEO and address so that you can mail or email them plus post your complaint on their boards for review. I did it once to Lowe's and promptly got a letter of apology from the store manager.

Another idea might be to contact one of your local TV stations or WAVE 3 in Louisville where the UPS Hub is and tell them of the problems your having. WAVE 3 has a problem solver that will contact the company and usually is very effective. I'm sure the friendly UPS people won't want this on TV.

Later, kb

I had UPS run into part of my shop with their truck while backing up. My neighbor heard them do it and saw him drive off. The driver wrote a note on the side of the box he dropped off stating he would report it. He never did report it and didn't log the package as delivered. I called and wrote UPS.They said the package was lost and that they didn't know where it was. I told them that I had the package with the note from the driver. UPS totally ignored me. The dispatcher/supervisor said that nothing happened to the truck. The driver on that route that day denied causing the damage. I send everything USPS or Fed EX now.

http://www.pressroom.ups.com/execfor...,1393,,00.html gives the name of all the UPS executives who should all be locatable through the Atlanta office.
Since the UPS store manager actually laughed Saturday and said "you are wasting your time trying to sue me, you signed your rights away when you signed the bottom of my form (citing paragraph 3 on the UPS Store Form). I got a letter from him waiting at the post office, denying any responsibility despite the fact that they admit they sent the packages to the wrong place, and didn't correctly insure them for the reroute. He says UPS can't prove they weren't damaged on the way to the wrong place when they WERE insured. UPS is saying it is the responsibility of the store since they did not insure them when they were damaged (which they say they can prove but not to me because the UPS Store is the shipper and not me). The UPS Store corporate office has no power by their own admission. I'll try corporate to get a big VP ear tomorrow and then sue the store, UPS, and the UPS Store I guess. What a hassle but the officer site might be useful to anyone else who ever experiences something like this. Every company has someone who cares and you can usually find them on the web.

Scooby ,,,

I had a deal with pay pal and evil bay ,, bought and paid for a sign ,, 29 days later it wasnt here , seller said they were on vacation, so I got a hold of pay pal, { 30 day limit } ,, all they would say is we will check into it ... a couple days later I was checking my account, and seen a deposit, { refund } from the seller ,,, then pay pal took out their share ... WOW they get paid twice .. but lucky to get my funds back,, or at least part of them ..
but never got any real answers from pay pal, or evil bay .. just think now ups and all the others will get paid more for screwing up things,,,, 8 % increase comming in shipping costs .. higher gas prices ...... up to 2.269/10 here ..

Good luck on your quest ,,,, Ohhh I did have a ins claim with ups once,, a neon sign ,, took a long time to get resolved ,, months ,, they wanted it appraised, and they got to pick the person to repair the sign ,,, now the sign is not orginial ... real value is gone ... and you can easily see where it was repaired ......

Slag,
I got a hold of Elaine Jordan who works directly with Kurt Kuehn, the Senior Vice President of UPS Worldwide in Atlanta. I have faxed her all the documentation and the certified letter from the UPS Store denying any responsibility and suggesting that I sue UPS directly with the help of the UPS Store. I think I'm getting somewhere and will let you know.

Happens all the time, mainly because of "double labels"... this is where the shipper forgets to check all six sides of the box to see if there are still some old shipping labels on it somewhere. Guess where the box goes when there is still an old label on it...

DING DING DING

This is key: packing items WELL. Most people do NOT. I worked for UPS for over 8 years and nearly all the damages I saw were avoidable with BETTER PACKAGING. So have the damages I've received from other people when parts trading interstate. I try to tell people how to pack stuff, and they don't. Then problems happen, and I ask the shipper why they didn't follow my packaging instructions, and they respond in a slack-jawed manner (with a little drool drip), "Gee, I didn't think that would happen..."

I have shipped out about 800 packages now and have never once had someone tell me something got damaged-- because I take the time to pack VERY WELL. It also helps to have seen what causes damages in dozens of various scenarios, in order to understand how to prevent it I guess.

I don't know where you worked, but where I worked most of the problems arose because of the insane amount of work that was expected to be done in an insanely short amount of time. It's no wonder stuff starts getting beat up. People HAVE to start tossing in order to even begin to get their work done. This also is the reason for a whole lot more stuff that goes on. Many of the service people would be glad to do a better job if the corporate monkeys weren't forcing such drastic overload. It is seriously bad inside the terminals. For instance, when I was a sorter, I had to pick up a package, find the label, read the label, and take the package and put it on one of eight conveyor belts at the rate of 1500 packages per hour, minimum. That's one every three seconds, folks. And they would have supervisors sometimes stand right next to you with a clicker, counting you. Oh yeah, and using cameras to do the same sneakily sometimes.

Most of you guys have only seen delivery drivers. Once in a while these guys aren't in much of a hurry at any time. One big reason I have personally seen for this, at least in the area I worked in, is that the company likes to create jealousy amongst the union employees-- this is a tactic they pull in order to try to keep the union bond as weak as possible. And so, some drivers get seriously cushy routes. I don't even want to get into the type of work load I had to deal with, but to give you a glimpse, when I was delivering my first run of stuff in the morning, it was "Next Day Air". That was the first stuff to get off the truck. This all had to be delivered by 10:30 AM. I occaisionally had to make more than 25 deliveries. Guess what time I got out to my route area? 9:20 AM...

Well, this thread is timely for me because UPS lost another package.

I bought a nice '35 dash from a woman in Canada. The package entered North Dakota on 03/09/05 and then disappeared. Online tracking showed no info.

After several phone calls, we were finally able to submit a "trace". I talked to a UPS rep and asked, "what can I do?" He said, "I don't understand." So I explained that the package has been missing since the 9th and I'm concerned that it took 5 phone calls to finally get UPS to look for the package. He began angry and defensive, saying that they can't track every package and are not responsible for knowing when packages are delivered.

Wow, really?

I am so fed up with this pandemic of unaccountability. UPS admitted they are irresponsible, yet the average guy is left with no satisfying recourse.

Just received a paypal notification that indicated my account has been froze due to suspicious activity and to please respond to activate it . Looked like the real thing for sure.

I went to paypal and found it was not frozen. I copied and sent the email to them. It'll be interesting to find out what action they take.

I get those "notices" from fake Paypal and Ebay all the time and they look pretty convincing but every one of them is a fake. I send them all to Paypal and Ebay but there are more scammers than they can keep up with. There are a lot of bad people in the world today that put so much energy into cheating and stealing that they would probably be really successful business people if they applied that kind of effort to a real job.
I thought I was really getting somewhere yesterday when I got to the Senior VP of Global Marketing yesterday and showed them a certified letter from the UPS Store saying I should SUE UPS. No response from anyone yet though.

It seems that UPS does not give a shit about the person the package is going to. No one at the ups store will talk to me because i did not send the package and will have to be paid back by who is sending it after it is settled.

I think any packages i get from now on im going to have who ever is sending them write that they are being sent from me to me just so I can atleast know what is going on with the parts i paid for and paid to have shipped.

I've used UPS a lot, had one broken item, that was bubble wrapped really good, and packed in peanuts. I filed a claim and was paid by the UPS Store owner, within 2 weeks. It pays to keep all receipts, and take a picture of your packed item before you ship it. They will not pay if your item is packed in paper. I always pack my items, then place that box in a box. Double protection. The reason my one item was busted was the driver dropped something heavy on it. I also never leave more than $50.00 in my Paypal account. There are too many people out there trying to gain access to your Paypal account. It is always better to have to put money from your checking account into your Paypal account, than have Paypal or someone else take it away from you.

putting a rod together in ireland involves shipping some bits and pieces.the problem with( oops) ups is all over.recently had a driveshaft delivered from dennys driveshafts by ups, delivered to my mothers address.shaft cost 300$ with shipping and taxes allmost 600$.when i opened the package it had damaged paint.denny didnt want to know ups didnt want to know.in my opinion dennys packaging was shit and ups stacked loads of stuff on it.fuck you ups and fuck you dennys ,you were nice as pie until you got my order .eventually gave me 20$ off the bill.shit service all round.next time i get something shipped ups i will collect at the depot and film it being unpacked in front of ups employee.not the first time they have damaged stuff.over the years ive ordered from jegs and ecklers had 1 or 2 problems were sorted straight away.well done jegs/ecklers.also stuff arrived from fat man fab by ups.some stuff damaged fat man replaced the part ups didnt want to know

So how do you go about finding a dead 5 year old thread? Is there an icon with a shovel and an X? Seems there are a lot of dead threads lately.

I quit using UPS because the wreck and loose so much stuff. The last time I used them, I shipped a 34 Ford bumper and it got lost before the first transfer. Before that I shipped some NOS chrome trim. I had it in a 4 inch PVC pipe with the ends glued on and the buyer got an empty container with the end gone. FedEx is a little better but won't insure stuff like antiques and vintage parts. The USPS has been real good. I have shipped over 500 items in the last 6 years with only one damaged item.

Crap, I just realized I posted on a 6 year old thread. What the hell is it with you FNGs always dredging up ancient threads to post on.

Never keep large funds balance in Paypal account. When the money comes in transfer it out immediately. Use it for a means of $$$ transfer only.

I have had issues with UPS in the past and switched to USPS and Fed Ex.

That sucks. I can only offer 2 things. Try FedEx from now on. So far, so good for me with them. And, I keep near zero in my Paypal account for situations like this.
