OK, here we go! I bought this car late last year with the intention to completely tear her down and start from scratch. I fell in love with the shape and stance the first time I saw it. First thing I did was take out the 350/400 combo and cut the front end off. The plan is to run a 392 Hemi with a 5 speed manual transmission. I will post some of the work that I have done soon. Here are some photo's of the car before I got stuck into it.

After getting the car in the garage, I started taking the engine out and cutting the front end off.Fairly rigurous action, I know. Instead of trying to restore the old front suspension, I opted to extend the frame in the front and go with a m2 set up. (Primarily for safety and this way I can run larger discs) Sold the engine and transmission to Mark, the guy who's going to paint the car,.... eventually.....

I used a mock up 392 to make sure it will fit before buying the real thing. From what I could see, it will fit pretty well. Only issue will be the headers. I wanted to go with fenderwell headers but it looks like shorties will fit better. Considering the 392 will be a tight fit(these things are elephants!), I'm going to move it back as far as possible without having to cut the firewall. This should give me sufficient clearance with regards to waterpump/fan/radiator.

The last few weeks I've been busy with the front end. Finally got the parts from the US! You guys are so lucky with regards to parts, I had to wait a total of 6 weeks from the time I ordered until I got the stuff in my garage. But hey, thats part of the game. Good planning becomes essential here. Did a mock up of the m2 and put the front fenders back on. Looks like I ordered the correct parts! Marked the correct position of the m2 on the steel for the frame extension.

I told my wife, "Come look at this sinister looking '41 Coupe." She said, "That is BADASS!" She's right, it is badass! Have fun with your build and keep us posted.
I'm going to keep mine stock for now until I finish up my Pontiac project. |

Here is a photo of the initial set up of the m2, spindles and discs. I went for the shorter m2 cross member so the wheels/hubcaps won't go past the fender. Also, by doing this, I get more turning capabilities when the car is lower than the normal ride height. I'll try to upload a few more photo's later.

Here's one with the fenders on to ensure the position of the spindle sits correctly in the wheel well.
