Created by the combination of relatively low ASAs, slower shutter speeds (than we have now), panning and, mostly, large focal plane shutters. Gary

I know its true, cause I read it on the HAMB!

The first two are water-based but I feel that they fit in with the overall style.

Geo Ham ... and Beligond's style

BRrrrr ... Ghost racing ! 1955 Geo Ham

Ben Hur car racing !... 1956 Geo Ham

no cars no pilotes in this slot track clock 1957

smiling car on this poster by Beligond 1958

"the ballet" ! dynamic , positiv , international "monument" of car racing

Beligond shows here cool racing and security ...

and Geo Ham shows mecanical orgy and dangerous racing ...

Does anybody know really why Geo Ham stopped to draw the 24h du Mans event poster ? A way for ACO to forget the 55 catastrophe ?

Not posters, but some cool signs are listed on the Griots garage site. Gary

LOVE this one for the Big Mile in Milwaukee!

I did this search to find all the signs, it may work for you, too.

These early posters are fantastic. Such incredible talent, you can feel the speed and excitement they generate. Gets your heart pumping.

I'd love to try blowing one up and painting it on my garage wall, as most of them are simple blocks of colour, no fancy shading.

Scale it up, using that grid pattern technique, should be easy enough......

These posters are proof positive that art imitates life, the illusion of speed at a time when illustrators & graphic artist portrayed the excitement of the upcoming races. HRP
