I emailed Randy Stephans some pictures of his old car and he returned the favor.

This is Randy racing at Santa Maria in the 1960's when he was still in H.S. and before the car was a full blown race car it is today.

The car will have the original look, but mostly likely a more streetable, but fast engine combo.
Sounds like you want the car to be accurate. I would probably reconsider the pie crust slicks as they would not have been run in the 70's when this car was running the strip. If you look at most of the old mag's pie crust were not just around anymore after the mid 60's maybe 1967-68 at most. Just thinking out loud.

FYI, I'm working at the Santa Maria Airport today and went to this exact spot. Go Cart track is there now. Had to line up w/ the trees and sloping hill in the background.

Cool!...How about a current picture of this spot as it is today?

That would be really neat!

Wow Smitty, I have not checked this thread for a while and to see you on here is great!

Do you have any old pictures you can scan on the "Rug Rat" ?

Or you could send them to me and I will scan them and send them back.

I am gathering parts for the 427 BBC as we speak and expect to have the car done for the March meet 2013.

Tex
