From what I got the issue of May 14'65 was the first issue under the combined name.I think the papers combined for awhile and used both names. The June 11'65 issue was back to only Eastern Drag News.It did change to Drag Times in 66.

Well about 20 years ago I stumbled across a couple of issues of Drag Times packed away at my parents house and the rest is history I've been collecting them ever since. Here are a couple I'd like to share, the one on the left is a patch for a jacket and the other is a decal. Thanks again for starting this thread.

Beauty, wish I had those. It must have been cool to be able to go to Capitol,Aquasco on a regular basis.

It seems to coincide with SSand DI's development a little and Drag Times evolves in to a Newspaper format like Drag News by Doris Herbert (West Coast) Somebody probably can explain what happened

That is Vol1 no1 1320 news It was started by Joe Vanni who worked for Eastern Drag News as a correspondent. He also owned the Bardahl Bug wheelstander driven at one point by "Leadfoot" Charlie Holmes.

The cover of Sept 6 '63.
S-W-C at Indy.
What was cool about this paper and others was less than a week you had a printed story and results from big events like Indy.

Some great shots here.Being east coast based they kept an eye out for how their boys did.Pretty good,I'd say.
Garlits redlit, think it was 1st time for xmas tree at Indy.Correct me if wrong.Ohio George put it to S-W-C.Gene Altizer winning class and Charlie Hill in the Filthy Forty winning C/G.Nice shot of Tony Nancy,he was running Olds wasn"t he?

This a 2 page spread showing the class winners with write up.It will take 2 posts to get it all on.Of particular interest to me was Ron Abbott in the Chevy powered "Hellzapoppin" from Albany,NY,running Big for the trophy. They would match race at my local track,SGF,in 66 on fuel.

Bucksnort, was that the original "Hellzapoppin" or the longer chassis car? The original is now under restoration in Carmel, N. Y.

Not sure but I think it was short one.Ran gas with it.The longer one was fuel but I have been wrong before.Last year at Lebanon Valley swap meet ran into some guys who knew where one of the Hellzapoppin cars were and they said he was going to put it on Egay but don't know if he did.
Might be same guy in Carmel
