I would do a search at metalmeet.com and some of the other metal sites. Lots of good info.

Cool thread! A friend, industrial engineer, gave me a bearing once from a HUGE shredder. I think they would be perfect for building english wheel's - very high quality steel. I'll try to find out more and re-post.

Old bandsaw frames are great for making cool stuff. Did anyone see that killer Louvre press that was made from a bandsaw frame?

Damn,Emiliedk, that's nice! I'd have to keep that in my living room!

  21. Here is my latest personal machine:

    ghia30.jpg

It has a 62" throat and is way bigger than anyone needs. I just did it because I could. My previous personal machine was a 48" throat.

    GoldCrown.jpg

It was one of two I built like this. Dutch Comstock has the other one. I really liked it and planned to keep it forever but a client bought it for a sculpture made from 1/4" aluminum.

The new one is the replacement and it is the best wheel I've ever used. It has variable stiffness thanks to some Belleview washers in the adjuster. Soft when you want it soft, stiffer than a bridegrooms pecker on his wedding night when you want it stiff. The build diary is on AllMetalShaping.com

There is an Ewheel Building Seminar on MetalMeet.com that I wrote many years ago. I had previously removed it after some problems with MetalMeet but decided to leave it up after MetalMeet restored an old backup. You have to join to see it. Look in the Library.

Here is a photo of the most popular machine we make, the 26F. It's been widely cloned and is a very nice machine. The tubing is 6x3x1/4.

    M26-Silver-Side.jpg

It's coated with LineX but that's just because we want to make the finish industrial. The sheet metal doesn't care.

One word of advice regardless of what you build. If you're rollers are not true (ie HF or similar), don't build a stiff frame. The out of round rollers with a stiff frame will make lumps in your panels as they wop, wop, wop around.

Hi Michael, My frame is all 1/4" wall , the main part of the frame consist of 3 x 3" and 3 x 4" tube that I welded together making it 3 x 7" overall. The rest is 3 x 3" x 1/4". Hope this helps Bill

I didn't make it but sometimes things just work out right. Its solid cast iron and weighs 1000 lbs put together. If I told you what I have in it you would get sick to your stomach and I will keep my mouth shut. :p
