Enjoyed the 1940's period correct thread. Lets try another angle. There are many first hand accounts availible from older hamb members on the 50's era. The start of drag racing, car clubs, their own builds ect. I'll start this off with one that I think a 50's hot rod was all about. Hemi Desoto powered '32 3 window. Metalic dark blue. Pic taken 1958. Builders Art & Gary Hills, Spokane Wash.

Glad you started this thread, oldebob.
I've been looking for a reason to show this picture.
My avatar. This is my dad in 1956. I was just a gleam in his eye then.
    He's "barnstorming" atop his '32 2-door, and his buddy's '32 coupe.

This is the story he told me about this car.

At the time this picture was taken, my father was dating my mother, and this is the car they went around in. The car had dual straight-pipes. The horn didn't work. One summer evening, my folks were out on a date, heading down a two-lane road. My dad was following behind a semi-truck that was behind a slow-moving car. Dad decided to pass. He pulled into the left lane, and as got about half-way past the truck, the truck-driver decided to pass the car in front of him. The truck began to move to the left lane, forcing my parents off the road, and toward the ditch! Since the car's horn didn't work, there may have been no way to warn the truck-driver, but my dad quickly pressed the clutch, and revved his motor. The truck-driver heard those dual pipes, looked over with surprise, and quickly got back to the right lane, allowing them to get back to the pavement.

Whew!!! I almost didn't get made!

One point. I always thought this interesting...Notice that my dad's buddy's car still had fenders, and to get the headlights low, he had mouted them on some sort of "stanchions" that were actually attached to the front bumper........???

I'm not sure if it is what you guys would consider being a 50's Hot Rod but I tryed to capture what I thought might have been around during that era with my 39
