Default 348/409 Dual Quad question

I have a matched pair of carters that came off of the 348/409 motors, at least that's what the local speed shop tells me.

Are these rare at all?

I'm looking through my collection of parts to see what I can sell to raise money for my pickup project and am not sure what these might be worth.

Toss 'em on Ebay with a couple of good pics and description......I think you'll be surprised what they'll bring from a "purist" doing a period correct restoration.

They are worth some good money if they are true 409 pieces..
I have a set off a 62 chevy myself.
I've seen the front carb go for upwards of 4-500 bux on the 'Bay if not more..
The front carbs don't have idle circut's, and the adjusting screw's are blocked off from the factory.
The linkage is progressive, and the front carb is the dead one.

I had a guy about a year ago come look at a 348 i had for sale, he spotted the carbs and wanted them a lot more that the 348..
He asked me if i knew what they were worth..i knew, but asked him anyway..
he just smiled and said quite a bit..

I agree, though, throw them on e-bay and see where if go's.
If you were worried about what they get to, put a reserve on them so you don't let them go under what you would like to get.

You may want to check with the Chevy guys for the correct carb numbers. It's ALL about the numbers. Buick dual quad carbs are often confused with the 409 carbs.

The numbers for 409 2X4 carbs are front 3361 and rear 3362 (early) or 3804 (late).

Those are the correct part numbers for the 425 Hp 409, I believe. Back in the mid to late 60's you could buy a set of these carbs from speed catalogs like the Almquist catalog, but the carb numbers will have an "S" at the end. They are the same carbs, but for the "numbers matching" 60's Chevy 409 restorer crowd, they want the carbs without the "S" at the end of the carb number.

I'll double check the numbers and if they are the correct carbs, off to ebay they go!

Thanks for all the great info.

You might want to check nhra.com under the blueprint section as well. They will give you the complete # for each year and possibly replacement #s.

By the way, I had a set of these carbs on a "full house" built 394 Olds. Great carbs when set up well, but forget about mileage.

Reggie Jackson once described how he liked one of his restored 425 Horsepower 409 powered 60's Chevys (that had these carbs), because when you stood on it, in addition to the exhaust and tire squeal sounds, you distinctly hear a "Giant Sucking Sound" of the carbs gobbling up just as much air as they can.

I used to hear it from my Olds with these carbs too.
