Johnny99: Sing along now. "Anne Francis stars in Forbidden Planet"
R.I.P.

Jimi: Two decades before her "Forbidden Planet" role
was further immortalized by a tongue-in-cheek song lyric
in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," Anne Francis was
an established movie star, seemingly never lacking for
starring or supporting roles. Here are two early ones,
both featuring CARS!

The hyped movie was 1953. What year's the Merc, also '53?
Below, Glen Ford saves Anne from a speeding Chevy in '55's
"The Blackboard Jungle." Both these pix are for sale on eBay,
if an Anne Francis fan would like to add them to the garage
or den wall.

blocks are easy to spot because the '57 283's
(but not 265's) had a pad for an oil filter added
to the casting, the '58 's had provisions for 'side
mounts' cast in, and the '59 and newer engines
did away with the staggered bolt pattern on the
valve covers.

If my memory is correct (and at my age?), the pad in the block casting for oil filter started with 1956 265 Chevy. The 1955 265 was unique/one- year, with external-mounted oil filter on top of intake manifold as an option.

Dated April 19, 1957 Chevrolet published the 24 page "1957 CHEVROLET STOCK CAR COMPETITION GUIDE" that listed all the part numbers and suggested modifications to build your own Black Widow race car. The 6 lug hub, drums and wheels needed are listed in there, along with a truck style 6 lug rear axle that was made to be a direct bolt in replacement for the original car rear end. To say that you would just slap truck hubs on the original spindles would be an over simplification, since stronger steering knuckles, wheel hubs and brake drums were usually replaced at the same time, for greater durability, as the guide so aptly puts it. No doubt there were some local racers that adapted whatever they had at hand to build a car that would take the same abuse however.

I've had '57 265's with no cast in oil filter
boss and with the optional top-mounted
by-pass filter.

As to the Little Deuce Coupe, actually it was started by a guy named Ziggy who channeled the body and it sat besides his mothers house for years. Catallo bought it and then the next body work was by Pete's Custom Collision in Detroit before it got to Alexander bros.
It sat in front of our tent in Daytona several years in a row in the nineties.
Restored and owned by Chili Catallo's son, Curt, and his sister.
Mechanically, in the beginning, it was built by members of the Trompers car club and Catallo. I replaced the tranny several times.
I was there in the beginning.

SixDogs: Just illustrating your point about roller skates
in the golden era of hotrodding! Nowadays, the SONIC
chain has made this their retro marketing watchword.
Collectors: Poster reproduction available on eBay.

I was just going off what's common knowledge, no doubt the hands in any given car with history have to be many. What was your tent? I don't recall, but I know I musta stopped there many times, the coupe was in front of tents near the tunnel.

It would be interesting to have some of the old pics alongside one from todayof the same area to compare what once was. Kind of a before and after.
