I do remember these, BUT, there was a follow-up that,
I'm sure, derived from the same idea! It was called
"Jimmy Jet," and there was a TV ad with a COOL song,
sure to enspire any youngster. The rhythm and meter
reminded me of the Marine Corps Hymn. I seem to
remember seeing them on TV about 1962? I THINK a
visual scope was added, so a kid could SHOOT at
bogeys, too. ANYBODY remember Jimmy Jet?

The song went something like:

Come along! It'll be JUST like flying!
FLY along with Jimmy Jet!
Turn it left, it'll be JUST like flying!
Turn it right, it's SUCH a thrill in flight!

Yes! But I don't recall the ad or song. I tried to find a vintage photo of one to post before Christmas, but never found one. There's a neat clip of a tv commercial here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDMQPwE4unw Notice it says sold in food markets only. About the time this product came out, our local food store, an A&P, carried a knock-off and that's what I got under the tree.
