 Does anyone else remember Andy Devine from the Andy’s Gang TV show sponsored by Buster Brown?It was a NY based Saturday morning show that Andy hosted from ’55 – ‘60 The best was Mr Froggy – Andy would say “Plunk your magic twanger” and Froggy would appear in a puff of smoke with a raspy “Hiya kids, Hiya, Hiya!”  A very politically incorrect show that would have problems being aired these days They say Froggy's disrespectful behavior towards adults, which he demonstrated on every show, influenced the kids who were watching him and those kids grew up to become the protesting college students of the sixties who likewise showed disrespect towards their elders. \Froggy was the original agent provocateur who would thoroughly confuse and befuddle the "experts" who were supposed to teach us how to do something. If the chef was to bake a cake, Froggy would start out with helpful suggestions which the chef would follow. Finally Froggy would turn mean and tell the chef to dump the batter on his head. The chef would proceed to do this and then turn on Froggy who would disappear. Often knives were brandished to cut Froggy to pieces! That’s my dog Tige, he lives in a shoe! I’m Buster Brown, look for me in there, too! |
