Item 34263 zoom Description

The Lincoln Basketball team won the Eastern Maine Championship game. They went to Portland for the State games but, unfortunately, they lost that game. This photograph shows the fans giving the boys a big send off. The players left on Saturday but there was a special train that took the fans to Portland on Saturday.

Here is a shot of downtown Pittsburgh in the early 60's. The yellow brick building on the left is the old Pittsburgh Press, a Scripps-Howard newspaper which went out of business in 1992 due to a strike. The red and white lighthouse on the top is the Scripps logo trademark. The building now is home to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

USS Enterprise CV-6 and others..
pictures and more at
http://www.cv6.org/1942/solomons/solomons.htm

see Enterprise being attacked during the Battle of Eastern Solomons, this video shows explosions that killed many sailors, among them my grandfather, Robert F Read. (at 2.27 into the film)
* warning, the music during the video sucks,, i advise to turn down the sound

That's some crazy footage. I'm surprised I've never seen it in any WWII documentaries.

What's wrong with Glen Miller?

-- my son found it when he was stationed over in Japan,, I'll never forget the day he emailed and told me, and when I watched it for the first time.
I actually saw the explosion that killed Robert F Reed, my granddad.
My gramma had never seen it and she was in her 90's, no one in whole family had seen nor heard that the film existed. My son goes to Japan, and poof, it shows up.

guess I figured wrong, glad you like it.. suppose it's nice for a change of pace.
