Pigeon Hole Parking came to Portland with the wave of parking-lot mania that swept the city in the 1950s. This one, at SW Stark and Park, lasted until the mid-60s when it was moved two blocks south to SW 9th and Alder. Like many of these parking systems, it was plagued by bad electrics that would strand cars until repairs could be made. The Stark and Park site is still a surface parking lot.

You have Photobucket? It's free, upload the photos you want from your files to Photobucket. You can resize them and a few other things. When you go to post the photo, copy and paste the bottom link [img] into the URL of the album you start or directly into the post. Do not move the photos at PB at any time or they will no longer be shown in your album or in a thread. Now this is import. When you paste the [img] url in you HAVE to delete the [img] front and rear of the URL in the place you posted or the photo will NOT show up. What i do is use my arrow buttons and go all the way to the right and delete backwards until it is gone and then I go to the start of it and do the same. Giver er a shot and good luck.

Sorry I re-posted the photo but felt just saying Craftmanship without the photo would leave one hanging.

Succinctly put there, RandomRodder! Hey posters with PICTURES.
Much easier to read & enjoy that way. Why make people jump back pages to see what pic is being discussed? Nobody wants to waste bandwidth, but you have to go with what works best. ![]() But we still don't need no stinking imposters! And, JLP, welcome to this cool thread. My dad talked about the sawdust snow tires -- and also about WHEEL SANDERS, for dropping sand from a hold in the trunk (presumably over both drive tires) to get traction on ice. SOUNDS like a pain to keep it loaded, BUT maybe a lifesaver when you needed it. Didn't gain popularity. What bothers me is that I have NEVER seen the set up on an old car (post-war to early '50s), nor pix or even a tech drawing. AM I nuts, or does anybody else have any memory or info (esp. pix)??? |

I don't think anyone has posted one of these, so here goes... At left, a Tucker Sno Cat about 1960 in Montana. At right, a restored one owned by a friend of mine. These were made in Medford, OR and were used at ski areas all over the country 50 years ago, used for trail grooming, transport, rescue, etc.

makes you wonder what the special occasion was that prompted someone to take that photo of the young lady standing by the Ford....whatever it was, it was worth getting a photo of that day

MaZoom, it kind of reminds me of the simpler time when I was growing up. People often took joy in the little things in life, you know? Maybe this lady loved the color combo, so when the dress she'd ordered came in the mail, she imediately ironed out the fold wrinkles and got her pic taken in front of the car. As I said, the little things in life. Just a thought about life in small towns.

You frequently see lists put together of what's everybody's perfect UGLIEST car ever, right? Father Juliano's Aurora safety car from 1958 would make my TOP 5, for sure! If this thing was touring the country (as the item above stated), I want to be out of town that day! ![]() But even that still can't touch 1959's Sir Vival !!! ![]() (And we hope not to see it again! Nyuk, nyuk!!!) Anybody else got UGLY car pix (vintage) ??? |

People are people and they derived pleasure out of small things no matter the size of town. The same joy could be had from some young lady in the middle of Chicago or Los Angeles.
Let me put it this way...the luckiest of people drive pleasure out of the little things. The man down the street walks his two little girls everyday the four blocks to the elementary school. Last week I was out in the driveway doing some yardwork and I said..."Hi Jim, you do know that you are right smack dab in the middle of the best days of your life?".... He looked at his two little girls with their books all neatly packed with their homework all done, and looked back at me ans said..."yeah Doug, your right, these are the best days of all" sometimes we just need to stop and look.....it's those little days that are the best of all, not the big expensive vacations or the prom.....just those everyday wonders that tie everything together into what will be remembered as "your life"....

Well, 'Zooma, I agree with YOU that life is to be lived, and the best made of it. It's not ALL drudgery, but some people set their priorities wrong and waste valuable years chasing the dollar bill and other transient goals that, ultimately, hold little joy. A wise person said a while back, "I don't remember ever hearing anybody say at the end of their life, 'I wish I'd spent more days at the OFFICE!' "
And I agree, too, whether you're rich or poor, life has its ups and downs, its good AND bad. Ya can't get totally hung up on troubles. Does one allow thorns to keep him/her from enjoying roses? |

![]() This vintage photo was found in Belgium and sent for ID to the Surrey Vintage Vehicle Society -- '29 Chevy. Hey! I love women unafraid to work on their own cars, ya know? But I hope the lady on the left knows how many PSI to put into the pneumatic bumper, and the one at right gets the torque right on the headlight with that starter crank!!! LOL (On second thought, maybe they were used to working on Minervas?) |

thanks Mazooma and Jimishemi, for the words of wisdom to start my day...
Today I drove the slow lane, in with the truckers, and let all the speeders go by.. it felt good to take my time, still got to work on time.. great scenery on hwy 99 up here in ag land, alfalfa fields and almond orchards with a dairy farm or two thrown in.

Yeah, man! Anybody who joins in the Rat Race had better be warned: The rats always WIN.
I know a lot of folks with passtimes and hobbies that, SOME would say, don't "produce" anything of value. Well, maybe not in monetary terms. A lot of US spend a lot of time digging up pix to entertain (and maybe inform occasionally) other folks on this thread. We don't make a penny, BUT it's enjoyable! The laughs and social group make any WORK worthwhile. No money involved, but still one of those priceless LITTLE things in life. Not much can compare to the HAMB, not that I can think of! |
