This thread has been incredible. I finally got through it in about 2 weeks. I don't have much to add, I have some old Pro Stock pics and some WWII plane pics. I was born in the mid 50s and remember so much of the stuff that I've seen. I'm looking forward to seeing more. Someone posted a pic of an F-82. I posted a couple that I had, including the production line. And who doesn't love a shot of a wheels up Grumpy launch.

Here's a couple of Corvette pics. And the 66 in the garage isn't for sale, they're gonna fix it up one day.

Found some more Grumpy pics. Here's a pic of some of the factory offerings in 61, I'm assuming this was taken in St. Louis since there is a railcar of Corvettes in the background.

And I love old Mopar drag cars. I also found an old pic of AA Dale Armstrong before he went on to bigger things as dragster driver and crew chief.

And a pic of Dyno Don in a 57 Corvette. I have no idea where this was taken or when, the other car looks like a 61 fuelie. I think Nicholson started racing the full size Chevys in 61 along with Jenkins and Strickler.

ALTERNATE CAPTION: "Debuting a full 50 years before Mercedes' so-called 'Smart Car' even, Henway Motor Corporation's 'brand new for 1958', 'super-ultra-sub-compact' model - the all too aptly and unfortunately named, 'Cretinous Commuter' - was an attempt to capture the lead of a supposed 'single-seater, micro-commuter car'market niche, that in reality, didn't even exist! In general too, the Henway "CC" as it was sometimes referred to by industry insiders, was deemed by the general motoring public, to be just 'too over the top', 'too ridiculous', 'too impractical' and way 'too far ahead of it's time' to ever catch on! Despite (or more likely, because of) it's grotesque and 'uber-snazzy', scaled-down Henway 'Big-Car' styling too, the total failure of the 'one-year-only' '58 'Cretinous Commuter' to gain any market acceptance whatsoever, far exceeded even the famous and generally more well known failures of the '55-'56 Packard and the '58-'60 Edsel - and will go down in history as one of the auto industry's greatest marketing disasters of all time - and one that, at the time, very nearly bankrupted HMC!!!" ![]() ![]() Mart3406 ("Official Henway Motors Corporate Historian And Archivist") ![]() ========================= Last edited by Ryan; 03-03-2012 at 06:15 PM. |

Good road building starts with a good grader. Here are a couple photos of Galien Graders from pulled versions to motorized.
This fully restored road grader can be pulled by horse team or tractor. It is parked in plain view at: RC Construction Services, Inc. 2223 N. Locust Avenue Rialto, CA 92377 It is a mile north of Old Route 66; one block north of the I-210 Fwy. Last edited by Ryan; 03-03-2012 at 06:15 PM. |
