...and note that is custom with a "c" as in period "c"orrect. :D ;) Let's see some '1940s style customs. There have been a few that popped up in the companion 1940s period correct hot rod thread, and I've grabbed a few from there to get the ball rolling. I'd love to see some pre-war photos especially!

This one is one of my favorite's of all time....any period. But wouldn't this be considered a hot rod since it ran pretty fast on the lakes???

I know Zach (SUHR SPEED) is planning to build one. Here is his photoshop of what's ahead.

That 2 tone 5 window '36 is awesome! What did they use to cover the frame in the absence of the running boards? I see the previous pic directly above of the 3 window has the same thing.

One of my all time favourite customs. Top was welded on after William Yee wouldn't pay $75 to make it removable. Dick Bertolucci built.

Jimmy... in the 40's Hot Rod post you showed this photo... is there a change you could make a larger scan of the 38? Ford convertible sitting the the background just above the cowl of this Hot Rod?... would be great

I tried to stay 40s Period Correct with my 39 Mercury convertible:

Shortened nose trim & shaved deck
    Fuel filler in the trunk
    41 Lincoln Zephyr bumpers
Hollywood flipper caps w/ ribbed beauty rings
    41 Stude taillights (real ones)
    Skirts (need bubble skirts!)
Down in back (mine may be a little too far down for 40s style)

I just need some Appletons and a Carson top to fill the bill!

From the Digital The Rodders Journal issue...

Technically this is OT... built in 1936.. but still around in the 40's so I say it belongs here.

Now this is the HAMB. You guys are it man. Between this and the "Sell" post there's enough hisorical references for 2 generations or more. Perfect stuff, proper "gospel". Thank you.

They hand formed a panel to cover the frame (or had California Metal Shaping do it for them) and then added chrome trim pieces to it.
Perhaps the whole package was an aftermarket product, but I have never seen it being advertised.

Some 1939 Cadillac models have this same feature...

A similar product for 37-40 Ford/Mercury's was available, although it was done in stainless... photo was posted on the Hamb some time ago.

I want to echo theHIGHLANDER. This post and the recent 1940's period correct hot rods are why I spend so much of my free time on the HAMB. I get to learn form the masters. Thank you all (HAMB)! Slim
