I just picked up my new 1949 Chevy fastback. It has one "US Royal Air Ride" tire on it that I really like the looks of. I found repo's on "mamotorworks.com" I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with these tires. At $170 each I'd hate to buy them if they're junk. Thanks, 49chev
US royals were a base tire when you ordered a new car in those days. For a couple dollars, you could upgrade to a "better" tire like Firestone or Goodyear. They were an inexpensive tire that you could expect to last 10-12 thousand miles, max. Most of them were even round and could be balanced. Dad always pulled them off the day he got his new cars and had a set of Double Eagles installed. The Royals went on pickups or farm equipment to be used up. I wouldn't think the repops would be that much better than the originals, but most hobby cars don't generate that much miles in years. So If you like em, go for it.
Thanks 61bone. I saw that they were the factory equipped corvette tire. I work at the current Factory Corvette Racing team so I thought it's be cool to use the original vette tires. I appreciate the input. 49chev
