Default Monster Garage: 1954 Chevy

so I just saw a video of the monster garage episode of the '54 chevy they did with all the "famous" builders. I never saw the show and just now found a quick video of it finished on youtube...I did a search but found no info on this car

so I'm wondering if anyone has any pics?
where's the car now?
how much did they section, chop, channel?
what type of '54 chevy did they start out with?
any build details would be appreciated

planning for a future project and liked that car a lot

54 chevy 210(i think), sectioned 4 inches, chopped 4 in the front and maybe 5 in the back, Jesse still has it and there are a few pics of it on 50chevy.com

If memory serves me correctly they cut it down a total of 12 inches. Jessie still has the car and it was a 210 post they started with.

this car made me a fan of sectioning. most of the sectioning stuff i had seen before was on "goofy" east coast style cars. this cemented for me that sectioning does have a place in the kustom world.

It must have been quite a build to have all those names and builders helping out. talk about a whos who of fabricators.

If they could make a show like that without all the b.s. drama I would love it. I seem to remember Jesse mentioning something like doing a "Norm Abrams" type of fab show. That would be awesome but I realize it would be a pretty small fan base. Oh well, a guy can dream...

I'd watch that. It would be interesting and educational to spend an hour long show just showing the world what one machine can do.

Last year I stopped in to check out West Coast Choppers. I spent about 20 minutes drooling over the 54. My wife was outside waiting. She almost had to drag me back to the car.
By the way Jesse, we loved Cisco Burger!

All I can say is Jesse is the man. Cool 54, you've had the chance to rub elbows with some big names, great marketing, great bikes, nice wife, and you're on the tube a lot. I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy....... You are A OK in my book.

One thin I love most about that car is the grease stains on the seats, which shows Jesse wasn't afraid to drive it.

One thing I was disappointed about when I went to pick up the girl I was dating at the time that worked in the shop is that Jesse wasn't there.I just wanted to ask if I could just sit in it,because that car was built by a collaboration of customizing legends, which I include Jesse in that as a customizing legend.Pure inspiration.

Hey Jesse, you still have that damn shark tank in the gift shop at WCC? Damn think done bit me when I was there (The tank, not the shark),haha.

It looks like he cut the bumper down and molded it into the body. I did the same to mine without cutting the bumper down.

There is a bumper on the back.

And yes the car is finished! Why would you even ask?
It is a work of Art. It would be like adding flowers to the Mona Lisa!

As far as a serious builders show with no drama not having a wide audience; they'll never know because the producers don't have a clue! If you tape it they will come.

I didn't have cable when this show came out. I always wanted to see it. Thanks for posting. I could watch Bill Hines all day. You kinda get a feel what it would have been like to work with Gene, Dick Dean, you can tell its second nature to them! I met Norm at a rod run when the Henway come out, hes a really nice guy! Makes my day!

That was great to finally see that show. What a cool car and some serious talent being put to work there. I can really understand how you could never sell something like that.

Righteous car.

My favorite episode goes back to Season 1, the wheel standing ambulance. I think that was probably the most fun for all involved. What say you Jesse?

I tried the street fire link , I had to override the porn blocker at school to see it! The video seemed to freeze several times, so it was hard to watch. I would like to buy or if someone happens to be able to send me a DVD or video , I would really appreciate it. Kids these days dont know these guys & the impact that they have had on hot rods.
We are working on a 1935 Ford pickup and 1967 Caprice as shop projects. The metal shop teacher has a 1930 Ford he is working on , so its interesting working here.

Thanks, Bill Johnson

Probably one of the best episodes IMO - It was one of the only ones without all the drama... just a bunch of car guys getting together to build a car.

I just watched it on the fire link. It worked fine for me. It was great seeing it again. Me and my kids would watch every MG when they came out, and were bummed when it left. This was by far my favorite since we were big fans of all those guys. I think this show could have kept going if they were a bit easier on Jess. They needed to take it a bit slower, have more builds like this instead of pounding it into the ground with lame ass builds and builders just to fill an episode. Even Jess looked frustrated and burnt after awhile........Now that I'm inspired, going to lay under my merc.

Apparently this was by far the most inspiring episode of them all, but lets not forget
the Hot Dog Dragster, The above mentioned Carson top Cadi, the 54 Ford wagon,
ruined by Starbirds silly 20inch billet wheels, the VW drag-bug, the woody shoebox
wagon on bronco frame or something and the Semi-truck trike! That was scary crazy!
Then something i remembered just today! The Folsom 69 Impala Low!
I have it at home on my desktop, its a pic taken in a town somewhere while
cruisin laying frame and throwin sparks....kooool!
Unfortunateley all the kool shots i have home, hee are the Lowrider mag ones!
If you havent guessed yet i have'em all, most i dont care for but still entertainin.
Its my fav show togheter w/ H/H and Mad Fabs! yes i know its a diffrent
genre but who cares!

Just wanted to say thanks for posting the link for the video so I could see the coolest 54' built. I also want to thank Jesse for getting all those legends together to build such a wicked ride! I wish there were more shows like that to show awesome builds. It seems like the network t.v. shows got overdone and we lost some cool shows. At least it gives inspiration to gear heads to see something like this. I would love to draw some of the pics on this thread. Anyway I thought it was bitch'n!!

As has been said, classic episode, KILLER KUSTOM , built by the Dream Team, Jesse requested one of our Hot Rod Columns for the build (Cheers Mate ) so I obliged & delivered it , when I got there they were in the middle of the build , Dick & Gene stopped to have a chat & were totally cool (even knew who we were !!!) Bill was too Busy slinging Lead what a master ! , man what an honor to be in the presence of & witness the masters in action, a truly treasured Memory , I still owe you one for that Jesse .

Cheers

It wasn't that bad. I noticed a lot of familiar faces on that show, especially the guys I use to hang out with from Severed Ties and my friends band xDEATHSTARx.

But man, nothing beats the '54 episode.

Hi all,

I noticed i had over 500 views from this board of the 54 episode i posted on streetfire ! My favorite ever ! no drama just build it. The result looks awesome and is a work of art, good to hear Jesse still has it. Another one of my favorites was the hot dog drag racer build with Indian Larry i will post that one on streetfire soon.
Sad to hear Dick Dean passed away r.i.p. Dick.

Cheers,

Ed

Id love to see what Jesse James and Aaron Grote could come up with, given enough time and beer.

Thumbs up Re: Monster Garage: 1954 Chevy

Wow! That's about the coolest '54 Chebby I've ever seen!
"Can you say 'Slammed!" and 'In the weeds!', boys and girls?"
or what!!??!! I agree with what someone else here said
about it needing some Packard tailights. A set of big ol'
Packard 'Cathedral' rear lights would absolutely make
this car!!

This was my favorite episode. A few years back I could have bought Dick Dean's Pink Flamingo for $15,000 in great condition. I just didn't have the cash. To bad the owner let me sit in it. One of the best cars ever. R.I.P. Dick you were a great man!

Jessie's got a hell of a camera eye
I don't know if I'm last to notice or anything but for a while now I look at his shots and think, why'd he do that. what was he thinking doing it that way because damn that looks good.

anyone know where the full video is on the web? I would really like to watch it as it is one of the best. I always enjoyed the Monster garage show even with all the wacky cars. To me it was a bunch of guys who got together to build something out of the ordinary and it wasn't what they ended up with but the process they went through to get there. The end product on this show is as good as the process they went through to build it.
